    when you said that if you didn’t like decimals or fractions you could just multiply the whole thing by 100, does that work for every problem and afterwards do you have to put the decimal back in the equations?

    • @jenniferhampton803
      @jenniferhampton803 4 года назад +4

      yes, you can always multiply by a number to clear fraction or decimals as long as you do it to both sides. you don't have to plug back in the decimal or fraction because by multiplying BOTH SIDES (that's important) you have dealt with them and don't have to ever think about them again

    Is it a rule that you have to convert the decimal portion of these problems in order to solve them? Because I've tried without converting them and I get the wrong answer
    So you **HAVE** to convert them, right? (usually by multiplying the entire decimal portion/equation by 100). Not just if you want to?

    • @JuiceyJiggy

      Pamela Arroyo she got -10 bc she wants to eliminate something with -10

    • @lavaniadelrey2807
      @lavaniadelrey2807 4 года назад +1

      When using systems of equations to solve, you can use the method of substitution or the method of elimination. In this example she used elimination. You use elimination to eliminate 1 variable to get the other. By multiplying the first equation by negative 10, she was able to get rid of the dimes so we could work with nickels.

    You lost me at multiplying the top equation with -10, then again in adding the two equations. Like I didn’t know we can add equations, or maybe I’ve forgotten. when do we do that and why

  • @tatu919
    @tatu919 2 года назад +2

    Here is the simple way to do :
    Let x represents nickel .
    .05x +.10(23-x)= $1.55
    .05x + 2.3 - .10x = 1.55
    -.05x +2.3 = 1.55
    -.05x =-.75
    X = -.75÷ -.05
    X= 15
    ( X= 15 nickels)
    23 coins minus 15 nickels = 8 dimes.
    Let's check if all those coins add up to the amount of $1.55.
    .05 × 15= .75 cents.
    .10 × 8 =.8 cents .
    .75$ + .8$ =$1.55
