because when we go vacation, we go indoors (like malls) and outdoors ( streets/hiking/etc) and you never know when it's gonna rain and stuff so if you ruin your not-so-good shoes you won't feel heartache. personally, i am a collector of sneakers and when i go overseas I only bring 1 pair, which is on my foot. no space in luggage. extra costs if i bring an extra set of "nicer" shoes for when I go indoors malls.
