  • Hello.
I just want to take a few minutes to thank everyone in the Mason community for doing their part in helping manage the coronavirus outbreak. This is an extraordinary time, an unprecedented time, at Mason and around the world, and I am continually amazed and inspired by the creativity and resilience of our Mason community, which not only responds to challenges, but finds ways to thrive as well.
As we monitor the situation and build our response with the help of guidance from federal, state and local health officials, I want you to know that the health and safety of every Mason Patriot is always our highest priority. We have a mission to not only educate the next generation of leaders but to ensure every Mason student can enjoy a safe atmosphere of learning, diversity, inclusion and success.
That is why, for the rest of the current academic year, we have changed the normal delivery of education from face-to-face in a classroom to virtual teaching methods. This is not easy, and it is not ideal. But it will enable us to continue our work of teaching and discovery while helping maintain the health of our community.
This is difficult - for students and faculty and staff alike. Our campus, which should be a vibrant, lively place, is quiet, and there is a profound sense of loss in that. And yet we are working - mostly teleworking -- to maintain our commitment to the academic mission of the university.
We will continue to keep you informed of the university’s response to this situation. Please stay current with the university’s information channels. Frequently check our webpage to stay current on Mason’s response to the coronavirus and answers to frequently asked questions -- gmu.edu/coronavirus.
Also, take time to take care of yourself and your loved ones. Get some fresh air while continuing to practice social distancing. Wash your hands regularly. Get sufficient rest, keep a positive attitude and keep in mind the most vulnerable of our community. Focus on our many blessings - chief among them for me is the incredible people who make up the Mason Nation.
I appreciate the spirit of teamwork and support that runs through this university, and I look forward to seeing us continue that in the weeks ahead.

Will seniors still be able to graduate? Or will it be a virtual graduation?
