    Love the canal meeting the ocean. Have you considered making the bridge arch wider for the road, train and canal?

  • @rnulfschmer7537
    @rnulfschmer7537 7 месяцев назад +27

    Sorry to say, that small canal addition dispels alot of the magic here. It needs to be as wide as the canal. And the height suggest it usn't actually used at al, - too low for boats. Go the whole hog and create a beautiful bridge

    • @radbricks8298
      @radbricks8298 7 месяцев назад +1

      most canal openings are no where near the width of the canal. heaps around where I am. and the opening is just to keep fresh tide coming in. its often just wide pipes. what he has here is pretty realistic

    for me too many roads, but im from europe. we walk a lot, our cities have zones for walking only, with caffees, restaurants, space for sitting and so on. your city would look also better with a bit less roads. but its yours, so do as you like, just an opinion :)

    I would like to see that arch at 5:20 be either double-wide or replaced by something brickbuilt, same with the arch under the roadway. with it causing that much of a change (raised road and raised train) I wish it were a larger focal point instead of something as subtle as it seems to me.

      Exact comment I was going to say. Going from the "Ocean" down to six studs wide then back to a full base plate wide in the city, looks very un-natural to me and just weird. To me the canal under then road and trains should be same width of whatever width the canal in city will be. Looks like small almost dried out creek this way.

    That angled work already looks awesome. Honestly remember watching you back when I everything used to look a bit more blocky! The city is definitely in a new era and it's looking amazing.
    I'd definitely agree with most of the other comments that the bridge could do with being a *bit* bigger. But honestly, I can imagine it's pretty hard to work with trains. Maybe two arches and a brick higher might make it look better without too much work? Obviously it might be worth focusing on something else for now!
    The city is already looking incredible. Would love to see more photos of it over time. Maybe over on Instagram?
    Appreciate the effort on the daily content, thank you!

    On that 1 and 1/2 baseplates, at the corner, you could add a small fish market with boats unloading the fish. Might require the end of the boardwalk to be moved further down, but would create a good story and add some variation to that small spot.

  • @LutherAEvans
    @LutherAEvans 7 месяцев назад +2

    I guess it would take away from the amount of space you have for the boatyard, but I think you should expand the beach by make it longer, like twice as long. There would be more space for the minifigs to play volleyball, build sandcastles, etc.

  • @ricardomatias6540
    @ricardomatias6540 7 месяцев назад +11

    Keep up the great work! I only have 3 suggestions/thoughts:
    1. I think the arches should be bigger/higher or wider, so we can see the tunnel where the water flows
    2. I think the beach should be expanded, since definately there is space for it. Don't be lazy (ahahaha, I know you aren't :) ).
    3. I like the white tiles in the road curves... :( But I think I can live with those not existing... :P
    Keep up the great work! I really enjoy your videos and what you are making with the city!

    I know you are planning on a subway system of some sort underneath but it would be really cool if the whole front of the table was one big lego mountain from the floor to the water covering the legs. You could open caves or holes to reveal parts of the subway, have all sorts of climbers and rescue people on the mountain too!

    In a perfect world the table would be lower where the water/canal is, that would solve the problem of having to raise everything up. Would also make more sense, as it is now(i know it isnt finished) some rain would flood the entire city(i know it not everything has to be realistic)

  • @r_stooge

    Things are looking great, and I certainly don't want the critical, but i'm thinking that Canal needs to be more "grandiose". At least have the culvert the same size as the road overpass. It's a cool point of interest in the City that could use some more detail and focus. Of course, part constraints are always an issue.

    For the boardwalk if the angles don't matter the easiest system is 3/4/5 studs. Short side 3, long side 4, angled side 5 studs. Super easy to do and remember. Also no gaps like you have with the hinge bricks.

  • @Dont_Tell_Anyone_Its_Me
    @Dont_Tell_Anyone_Its_Me 7 месяцев назад +1

    I think the best solution for the canal is to raise all the downtown area a few brick. That way all the buildings and streets are above the water level, and the roads and train tracks would cross easily the canal without having any awkward ups and downs. It would also allow the canal to flow in a more fluid way to the sea, with a larger estuary. But I understand that this would be a huge task, and would consume an incredible amount of parts

    Hi Bricksie.
    Sooo good to see Jose, and the twins in this video! Brilliant that the Oilers won this game too. Yay!
    The City is coming along beautifully. I think your viaduct for the canal was very well built, despite some people wanting a bridge etc. The logistics of elevation at that particular point would be enormous, plus the train would need a clear run to build up enough steam to get up an incline. So many aspects to consider.
    Always remember it's your City and you get to call the shots!

    Consider widening the arch 3 studs each side. The footbridge and the Waterway joining the ocean will look more natural. And it can easily be done. And you wouldn't even need to widen the road bridge because with the train tracks and any Greenery you put in, you can give the illusion that the water is exiting from a larger area under the bridge than it actually is.

    for angle on grid use a ratio of 3:4 studs for the points on the grid. For example an ablge that side are 15 suds deep and 20 studs wide.
    also, It seems you can not make the tracks rise to allow beach goets to the beach. I say look into added walking bridges or change were the trains enter the train yard.

    So it looks great, love the new city set up. I do have one idea though for the board walk. You talked about not sure how mini figs would get there. An option would be to make the bridges for cars & train alittle bigger, maybe big enough for a tiny boat to go underneath & then run a pathway on either side of the waterway connecting straight to the downtown core. Just an idea, keep up the good work, love your videos!!

    Swapping the location of the canal with the train track would create a more dynamic interesting route for the eye/viewer to follow the train and also eliminate the humdrum emptiness of train tracks going around the edge of the city. A canal going down the edge of the right sight side with all kinds of city people enjoying the day on and around the water would be awesome.

    I have a suggestion: the residential area has sidewalks on the inside of the road that make sense. They also have sidewalks on the outside of the road, which doesn’t make sense. People from the neighborhood wouldn’t cross the street just to go on a walk. I think the corners are too square as well, which takes away from the overall appeal. This could be improved with grass, trees, and flowers instead of that gray sidewalk.

    While I do like the Canal idea, I think your canal "overpasses" look too small. Living in Kttawa with a canal going through it, the scale of your water flow looks more like a culvert in scale than it does a canal entrance. Would be cool if you made it big enough for a mini fight size kayak / canoe to gravel through at least. A Lego duck could barely fit through there.

    I'm having issues with angles and similar things as I design my grand castle MOC. I'm inspired heavily by the Lion Knights Castle, and using similar techniques, but I would love for a master builder on RUclips to put out a solid video about LEGO math and angles, as well as SNOT techniques and brick height:width ratios.

    In the UK we have amusement arcades near the beach, so you could do something like that, or a surf club? Or perhaps some shops with a beechy theme to them.

    You have these round barrel like pieces on the beach wall, wouldnt those be a key to making a nice corner on the boardwalk?
