Myron Floren: Carnival of Venice Variations, 1992

Myron Floren (1919-2005) a Norwegian, spent his lifetime promoting the accordion in America on TV, recordings and festhalls. He was a happy energetic showman. I caught him performing to a crowd of over 5,000 near Toronto, Canada in 1992. That's why the camera is so shakey sometimes; people were bumping into me.

At my grandmother's house around '58, all would stop and be silent for the Lawrence Welk Show; and Myron was the top attraction. I only wish I had met my German wife sooner; so we could have caught him in New Braunfels at the Wurstfest. He made the world so much happier.

I had the opportunity to play some duets with Myron on 3 different occasions. On the first occasion we did Beer Barrel Polka - I was young and cocky and decided I was going to show up Myron with my Bellow Shaking - Myron blew me away! Another young gun bites the dust.

It's too bad the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which hosts/produces the Grammy Awards, eliminated the Polka category in 2009. They obviously never heard Myron Floren.
