    On some stages, the f2 kit cars were actually faster than the WRC cars at the time, usually on tarmac stages where the understeer of the FWD car became more negated by the supreme front end grip and nimbleness of the cars.

      Watching them on gravel stages were fun too...
      Such good times back then...
      Modern iteration of f2 kit car were the s2000 category but shortlived when R5 came foward as 2nd tier rally car in WRC series...

    The main difference that made group A cars faster than group B wasn't performance of said cars. In second half of 90's rules regarding co-driver changed and they were allowed to create detailed instructions instead of simple "roadbooks". That alone drastically improved pace in between seasons without any major technical improvements.

    As q Renault fan i looove the Maxxi Megane kit car, it's so unique with 7 gears (lol). Loved it since i played Network Q Rally Championship games, as it had the cool blue/yellow renault paint scheme with blue wheels, just looked great. I was also a very easily impressed 3 year old

    the kitcars were and will always be my favorites. maybe it's because i'm a circuit guy, but there's something in the realm of absolute madness that these little front wheel drive things could go faster than the dedicated rally cars. the reason they were is funny, too... in a *very* simplified way : at the time there was a disagreement between french manufacturers and the fia, and as the french rally championship is tarmac only, peugeot and renault decided they would duke it out on the local scene. and corsica was on the french calendar as well as the wrc. so...... they pushed the limits of what the kitcar rules could do as far as they could and purposefuly developed their cars so that when the "big guys" came to them, they'd absolutely *trounce* them. which they did, also winning in spain if i recall.

      Yep, it was amazing to see front -wheeled peugeots/renaults/citroens absolutely kill it on tarmac, and also to see the wrc guys literally fuming at being beaten like that :))))).

      Nissan Almera is the other notable F2 omission, but I think Codies responded to a Twitter post asking where the 240Z from DR2.0 is by implying Nissan wanted more money for a license than they were willing to pay. Hopefully that doesn't remain the case forever, as a Nissan DLC pack with the 240Z, Violet GT, 240RS, Sunny GTI-R, Almera Kit Car and Micra Kit Car would rule.

    I’d imagine it could be tyre technology, maybe the game assumes all cars to be on a modern equivalent tyre (as the rallies are historic class, not in period), so the 205 is running the same sort of tyre as the impreza and Megane.

    I was a Vauxhall mechanic BITD, so closely followed the development of the Astra, however for me, that 306 Maxi was the pinnacle of F2 rally.
    With regards to the game though, I just struggle to make decent stage times because for me I always find the roads just too narrow. I know, get good, but it puts me off as I hate the frustration it causes me.
    Still going to try it though 😆

      I haven't played this game but if it has a classic rally group go with that and use an old mini. Whenever I go back to rally games the mini is always my first call as it helps you get your eye in with track width etc but is the most forgiving due to slower speeds and its smaller size

  • @revenger210
    @revenger210 10 месяцев назад +14

    Just a quick correction - the F2 kitcars were active in the mid to late 90s, and their legendary days were in the late 90s. 1997 was also the year when the modern world rally cars were introduced (the 1997-2011 car class in-game). In 1999, the citroen xsara kitcar won two events outright in corsica and catalunya, and only lost san remo because rain fell and the citroen team made a bad tyre choice

    _"Tonight, FailRace is out hunting for monsters... of the rallying kind, on EA Sport's WRC. Watch as we find:_
    3:30 _"A tree block the view of a Renault Megan._
    11:45 _"Some trees block the view of a Peugeot 205._
    7:30 _"And a Subaru Impreza is hidden... by a freaky tree."_
    Not a bad set of replays - looked almost like a televised session of rallying; albeit without the TV overlays you would get. I liked this, but I would prefer seeing the first-person viewpoint of Alex doing all of this. And when will we see the Renault Twingo doing some rallying??? 🤣

    Nice one Alex. Whenever I get round to purchasing a copy of this game (probably an impulse buy from a local CEX store), I'll give those kitcars a whirl, along with the legendary Hillman Avenger and the ubiquitous Vauxhall Nova, as well as the current WRC and Group B machines.
    I think EA missed a trick by not following Art Of Rally and including some Group S monsters. You know - the rallying Lada Samara and the Citroen BX4TC. The Peugeot 405T16 should be worth a shout, I think that was a Group S machine.
    By the time I get this game, they may even include a Triumph TR7 V8 - something I've been asking for years...

    • @llmkursk8254
      @llmkursk8254 10 месяцев назад

      The BX4TC was an entirely Group B machine. It just had all the flaws of the S1 E2 quattro. But it's honestly a bigger shame EA didn't get anything Toyota, either.

    The main reason that the group A cars caught up time wise is because the Group Bs didnt have handbrakes and the game doesnt replicate that so the time possible is faster than what is realistically possible.

    I've always been of the mind that FWD is more suited to Rally than RWD. When your goal is to make it to the end of a very long and grueling series of stages, the predictability of the FWD handling just saves you so often, you're more confident to push. When these cars are set up as they are to turn in, lift off oversteer, etc. The disadvantage you have in the tighter sections is minimised as much as possible. Amazing cars.

    Sooooo.... Failrace rallies when?
    On topic and after watching the video, DTS (the handling system) rewards smoother inputs all round. On a controller, youre going to ve very very limited in all cars, and with that said, the front wheel drive cars suiting you makes absolute sense.
    THAT SAID. You can change the centre diff balance to make the cars more FWD. The GENERAL rule is tarmac = more rwd, gravel = centered, snow = more FWD. In your case, movong the centre much more foward could well improve all your times (outside of the F2... Obvs).

      @@tantona9315 I feel like you missed the point of my post... I'm not saying it's not fine, I'm saying you have finer control and so can control the silly powerful cars better, and be faster, on a wheel, and more specifically, with pedals.

      And it's kind of amazing how people still think that Group B cars were faster than modern rally cars, when I'm pretty sure the previous generation of WRC, the pre-hybrid ones, were the fastest Rally Cars ever and by quite a distance. They would do circles around Group B cars, but we gotta keep the mysticism I guess.

    Maybe you and your team can Beamng time trials single runs with legit WRC spec vehicles and by legit maybe best to have a 3 to 4 min course where you leave at a delayed intervals and have someone at the end of the course with a stop watch and drivers time themselves too just because of stuff no var needed lol.
