    Thank you VERY much for your detailed review of the АЧС-1М; it was extremely helpful in finding a nice example of the same clock last week, and learning its basic functions.
    I'm currently holidaying in Russia with my wife, and she amazingly found a brand new one for me via an online classified ad for 3500 Roubles (I'm very lucky to have her to help as a local guide and translator/negotiator!).
    Until i opened the styrofoam box, the clock likely hadn't seen the light of day since its manufacture way back in 1984. Once wound-up, it worked like an absolute gem - and has only lost about 2 mins in the past three days... Not bad at all! :-D

    Авиационные часты means Aviation parts. Паспорт means passport. All soviet things like clocks watches movie cameras fans turnatables etc came with a passport where is written the main features of the product like date of assenbly operator of assembly etc.

    @Lemev Good question. I didn't even think to check. All hands glow in the dark where they are painted white. On the main dial all the numbers and corresponding numbered marks glow. On the small 12 hour clock the 12, 3, 6, 9 and all hour marks plus that square above the 6 glow. On the 30 minute clock just the numbered marks glow. I guess they use the radioactive paint.

  • @emreleatherworks

    You can see the letter B on the dial.
    It means временная светомасса (Temporary Luminescent Paint).
    No radioactive material.
    As I know...

    I really enjoy these videos of yours; i've always found clockwork fascinating; it's nice to be able to peer inside without having to open up my own things and break them all with my inexperience and screwdriver-drift, haha.

    I assume that it got cold in the cockpit at altitude and the heater was used for keeping the movement warm.

  • @bunnspecial
    @bunnspecial  11 лет назад +1

    I bought this clock from ebay. You have to be careful because another Russian clock I bought was missing the heater. I hope your Uncle's watch didn't have the German pilot's thigh still attached.

      @@bunnspecial if it has timings on it than it will be the outcome of the certification process stating it is a scientific instrument, rather than just a clock. Chronometers are meant to run at an acceptable rate plus or minus, and you are meant to know what that is so you can take the error into account. My chronometer was out by 30 seconds a day when I got it, but now runs reliably at + 2 seconds a day, which is great because with a quick flip of the right knob I can quickly keep it accurate.
      A beautiful timepiece!

    Hey, I know the video is old but still need to ask for help. I recently bought both ACS-1 and ACS-1M, and started to do maintenance for ACS-1 to make a great desktop clock of it with some rugged stand for it.
    I have done maintenances for several wrist watches but here I immediately bumped into a problem: not sure how to remove the hands. They do not seem to get loose even with decent amount of force. So basically looking a service manual to show the order of disassembly, or if you can provide some help here.
    Thanks in advance!

      I never took one of these apart and don't know of any service manual. I would think like most clocks the hands are pressed on. I would think that these would be pressed on tight since they are used in aircraft.

    Is that clock approximately 80mm (3.125 ") in diameter? I'm looking for a smaller one around 55mm (2.25") . I've seen them before but can seem to find a model number nor any listed for sale.

    Hi. Do you know how to regulate the movement? It seems obviousl but Ive given the indicator a goot amount of force with no effect. Is there a screw somewhere that needs to be released?
    Regards.

    • @bunnspecial
      @bunnspecial  2 года назад

      I don't think there is screw to be released. If you take the back cover off you can see if something is jammed up or if you reached the limit.

      The electric pins are for a heating element inside the clock.

    Hi, does your clock runs slow after you open and closed it?
    Mine did and it was rather bad, like 5mins slower over 8hrs.

    • @bunnspecial
      @bunnspecial  7 лет назад

      Mine still runs the same. Yours is like 15 minutes a day. Something went screwy with yours.

    • @liangsiahpoh1806
      @liangsiahpoh1806 7 лет назад

      bunnspecial Certainly. I also noticed that mine flight timer now resets on slow motion rather then snap back to 12 o'clock. Even the 60min timer was off when reset; starts at 57' instead of zero.
      Guess I'm given an adventure to figure it out now.

    • @bunnspecial
      @bunnspecial  7 лет назад

      We could try that. I have to find my clock first and open it up to see what could have gone wrong. Sounds like the balance got messed up on yours because of the slow speed. Maybe if you take off the back it might return to normal.

    @bunnspecial Hey man, thank's for your reply! I've seen some of these clocks at eBay and the major seller of those, a guy from Kiev Ukrania, says it's Phosphor and it is not radioactive.... Anyways, what scares me is all of them came from Ukrania, and I don't know if still there is some radioactivity around there.... kiev itself is about 85 miles from Chernobyl and the radiation in Kiev was huge in the late 80's as well!!! But I wanna one clock like this sooo bad! I'm almost buying.... Thank's!

      I don't know about the numerals..but I was in Kiev and Poltava in 1996 photographing kids in cancer clinics...I felt spooked about residual radiation...I managed to speak with a scientist with a reactor radiation organization (AEC or similar)..he assured me that residual radiation in Kiev was low..probably lower than where I live in Cornwall CT...most of the radiation blew north...and nailed Belorus badly and blew up over scandinavia. (kids who ate radiated preserves in Belorus got ill.) I spoke with doctors in Kiev Clinics..and they confirmed that residual radiation was low. So: I wouldn't have any concerns about clocks just being in Kiev. Clocks that are from the helicopters that dropped sand on the reactor...well Sergei Sikorsky (Igors son)...said that those copters were taken out of service and sequestered...and that when he visited (mm I believe a few years after the explosion)...he said those copters were so "HOT" you had to wear a suit (anti radiation protection suit)..just to go near them!...The pilots .. all dead. I just recieved two clocks and I'll know in a few days but two hour test...is very accurate..good luck
