Love this song and performance.
I went to the 'Somewhere' concert at the Savoy Theatre. 7th June 1997, with my to be wife a week before our wedding. Fond memories.

I hope your marriage has lasted as long as the Pet Shop Boys. Wish I had attended one of the nights at the Savoy. I think they were sold out by the time I knew of them.

Somewhere in The Savoy was the second time I saw the the boys, the first being Performance in The Point Depot/Theatre in Dublin. In a way, this show started my regular trips to the UK (as an adult), particularly London, which is still as exciting now as it was then.

Great romantic song. Strings always emotive. Great orchestration. Well produced. Loved this song since I first heard it in West Side Story. Pet Shop Boys deliver always.

I'm late to the party, commenting on this now, but although this a lovely song, no matter who sings it, to me, this is the loveliest version. There is something very special about Neil's performance vocally on this song. He hits just the right notes, and tones all the way through, it's uplifting and heartbreaking. Loved it as soon as I heard it - which I didn't do until I bought the CD, cos I'm that old! Trying to pick a fave PSB song would be harder than I care to attempt, but this would have to be in the mix.

This mimed rendition was captured on June 17th, 1997, specifically for TOTP. It was performed in front of an empty Savoy Theater, hours before the actual show. Neil was ill that day - he had an infection and a dodgy stomach. Chris kept complaining he didn’t want any shots of his face or him playing.

Is this from the tour DVD instead of live performance in the TOTP?
Yes , from Savoy theater DVD
Some of their performances at TOTP weren't "live" (where they mime their songs). According to geowayne.com some of them were just videos. For example, that was the way they "performed" their "Absolutely fabulous" song.
@@arthuramber15 Actually, the majority of the performances were mimed. Pet Shop Boys has only performed live 4 singles in Top Of The Pops: “Can you forgive her?”, “Liberation”, “Home and dry” and “I get along”. All the other ones were totally mimed.
@@Paninaro88 No, it’s not from the Somewhere DVD. The DVD show was filmed live on June 16th, 1997. This mimed rendition was captured the following day specifically for Top Of The Pops, in front of an empty Savoy Theater, before that night’s regular performance. In the live version Neil shares the main vocals with Sylvia, and that it the performance available on the DVD - not this one.
