Thank you so much for the mention Daniel and for answering my question on the lighting. This helps me a lot. As you say it is all about helping each other out.
Just ordered the 180 and it's being delivered on Wednesday, just getting back into having an aquarium again after 25 years of freedom 😂 Thanks for the videos, informative and I now know what to expect.
Thanks very much mate. You know me, if I can get my fish geek on... The thermometer test made me feel like I'd actually taken something from science at school haha..
Hi Daniel! Fantastic your Juwel aquarium! You can see the care and maintenance you dedicate to your submerged environments. Under the cabinet is a beautiful micro world of small aquariums. Thanks for this update.
Thank you bud. Actually I nearly went for a sump set up but more and more over the years I've been more inclined to keeping the water in the tank and eliminating additional potential issues that comes with running it elsewhere and back like with sumps and canister filters.
Gorgeous tank Daniel! I love the choice of fish, I was looking for tank reviews on this tank as I’m gonna get my own 450 in the new year! Thanks for the showcase and for making me very excited to have my own one soon!
Might be an investment for you mate. Buy a couple, grow them out then you can sell them to others. Nice way to start the FKJ aquarium supplies empire. 💪😉
Awesome video Daniel!. The aquarium is looking absolutely stunning mate!. Your angels and acaras are beautiful!. Love all the plants too. Keep up the amazing work 🙂
I haven't tried Giganthea mate. Don't think I've ever seen it around here. Might have to see if I can find some online and give it a try now it's a bit warmer up here.
Thanks Oscar. Most of the plants you see are Crypt Wendti Brown, the greener ones are Java Fern tied to wee bits of bog wood (you don't plant Java Fern). The plant that gets tall but takes a while to get going I spoke about it Cryptocoryne Balansae then there is S.repens and Vals on the right side.
Great video was looking forward to this, I’m going to be moving my Juwel tank soon so will be interesting to see the follow-up video and what wee tweaks you suggest. Saw you’ve got a sponge over the side of the filter, that’s been a bit of a problem area in mine for muck collecting.
So the reason I have that there is because I have Kuhli Loach in this tank and didn't want them to find their way in there but I have looked closer at this filter and will be putting a video out about it soon as I am able bud. 👍
Great informative video Daniel!, was searching for a good & light substrate like yours But didn’t find any. MAY I know what’s the name of the subtrate u use?
Looking great compared to one of my tanks. Is this a ‘standard’ tank or did you add a optional filter, light, CO2 … doesn’t look like it but wondering since I didn’t spot algae.
No bud everything is stock; lighting, heater and filter (no extra one, just the biomedia that was in my canister filter previously then the sponge that came with the Rio). I don't use Co2, just root tabs and liquid ferts. Algae control is basically balancing my water change regime with my fertiliser dosing, plant stocking and photo period backed up with a group of Otocinclus Catfish and a magnetic algae scraper for the glass.
Daniel that is a wonderful setup You have done a lot of work you seem to have got a balance with livestock. I love the blue acaras they have a bit of character. Now I want to ask you a question, can you do a clip on taking photos. I currently just use the phone and I have no problem taking pictures of anything except the fish. What I was thinking of is getting an action camera like the AKASO V50 X which does well in reviews not expensive. Thanks
I can do that Robert! I've got a couple of videos lined up to come out first but I'll start recording one to cover that and get it out soon as I can. I do everything on my phone too by the way but I'll explain it better in the video for you.
Thanks Alison. I've had no problem with Dwarf Sag at all. I have struggled with some of the smaller carpeting plants but then I don't use Co2 which I think is very helpful with those. I've had varying success with S.Repens. Will need to see how this goes. Hope you get to try one of the Acara species at some point in your hobby. They're a real delight.
@@DanielKeepingFish I have two clumsy bristlenose plecos they just plough over all plants. Like tanks lol might try the dwarf sag tho. I know they will just wreck it tho🤣
@@alisonnicholson I have kept Bristletanks in Dwarf Sag aquariums in the past. If you're struggling could always lay down some plastic egg crate and weight it down with a couple of rocks. Plant the Sag in the gaps till it gets going then remove the egg crate. Doesn't take Dwaft Sag too long to start up. Just a wee idea.
Juwel defenetly make stunning tanks, seamless ( fluval let themselves down as cabinets look like a box or country house like shaker- and no high gloss above 90 litres)and simple things like black silicone- my only complaint is filter comes fixed, would be good to choose to install in left of tank. Your accent is strange- sound at times glasweagen like me!
Well I'm from London originally but I live near Glasgow now so have picked up some of the local expressions and phrases. Yeah I guess it's down to people's tastes. I like the sleek modern look of the the Juwel but I guess there is a place for the more classic look of other tanks like the Shaker. You're right about the filter being fixed. It would be nice to have the option to place it at the other end of the tank for sure.
I use a hose and suck on the end of it to start it for the emptying running it out of the nearest door to the garden. To fill it I use lots and lots of buckets. I'm aware there are water change systems like the python but I reckon it takes the passion out of it. Might change my mind as I get older; when my knees get wobblier and the buckets get heavier haha..
That really is a personal choice hey. All I can say is that I really think a lot of this tank for the reasons I've covered in all the videos I've made on it so far but it's a big investment. I would encourage you to thoroughly research all the option you have available before making your choice. There are lots of videos on RUclips to help you decide and reviews online. Hope you find one you like. 👍
Yeah no bells or whistles with it but I've found it to be decent. Bright enough to make the tank look good and grow low-medium demanding plants. I just plug mine into a timer switch, set it and forget it. Enjoy your new tank!
Thank you so much for the mention Daniel and for answering my question on the lighting. This helps me a lot. As you say it is all about helping each other out.
No worries Tracey.

Oh hey enjoy your new tank. I still love mine, think they're very nice tanks.
And welcome back to the hobby after your extended break.
very nice aquiaruim good job
Thanks Coach.
6 months and looking real good 👍👍👍
Getting there mate. An exercise in patience with isn't me strong point. 😆
Tank looks great crystal clear
Thanks Arthur. Few developments since then but aye, the filter this tank comes with gets a bit of heat at times but I think it's fine.
Great video as always Daniel! My 450 came today. Beautiful tank 😍
Whoo hoo! Enjoy your new tank!
Hope you like it as much as I do mine. Suspect you will. Have fun with it!
super awesome Daniel....like how you did the heater/thermometer test....very good....got a great mix of folks in there too sir....love those cats
Thanks very much mate. You know me, if I can get my fish geek on... The thermometer test made me feel like I'd actually taken something from science at school haha..
Looks so beautiful aquarium😍👍🏻

Thank very much Marco. It's my wee happy place so when it's a pleasure it's never a chore hey mate.
Wonderful tank set up. Your acara are gorgeous!
Thanks Dominic. Yeah definitely one of my favorite fish I've ever kept. They've got great personalities on them too.
It's a beautiful tank setup! the fish and plants look like they're doing well too! love the blue acaras!
Thanks very much bud. Feel like it's starting to take shape. Almost wished I'd gone for Oscars instead after watching your videos today.
@@DanielKeepingFish Lol when the Oscars are 12 inches long I think you will probably change your mind
Looks amazing
Thank you bud. Hope you are recovering well mate.
Tanks stunning!
Thanks very much bud.
Those Blues are stunning!
Thanks Boss. Must agree, they tank my breath away at times.
I like this video. Thought I'd better comment again since when I closed my other channel down all the previous comments disappeared😅
Wow, beautiful aquarium, friend.
Dangerous Daniel, that's one beauty of a tank
Thanks very much homes.
Love the set up i would be so inclined to run a sump but looks great especially the smaller tanks well done

@@DanielKeepingFish Very true i had reef tanks for many years so just got used to them
Impressive!
Thanks Rob.
The electric blue Acara look beautiful, my favourite fish 😍
Thanks John. Yeah the certainly hold a special place in my heart too mate.
good video, keep up the good work, i enjoy watching them

Lovely tank buddy. Not a single scrap of algae and nice fish choice
Thanks mate. All down to careful balancing, a magnetic algae scraper and an army of Otocinclus.
❤ looking good!
Thanks very much Kay.
nice share, the redish color plant ( crypt) are expensive in my local pet shop... it looks great though in aquarium setups

How do you do your water changes on such a big tank? I used to use a water bin with an external pump to empty and refill the tank (Rio 180)

Daniel what’s the name of the goldy looking cichilid you have in there? Lands into shot around the 1:40 mark?

@@Boss-zo4lw I've never tried it with a dimner mate, just a bog standard on/off timer switch.
The java fern should not be planted into the soil tie it to a drift wood
That's right. It isn't planted it is all attached to small rocks and pieces of driftwood placed behind the other rocks and plants.
Do you use extra oxygen?
Can't remember if I did in the beginning but I do run air yes. It's the Hygger acrylic airstone disc I use.
