Mark, I’ve been practicing photography for a long time. Only after I retired from my real job 10 years ago did I get very serious about my hobby. I just wanted to tell you that you have been a very big part in my recent photographic growth. I love your tutorials and the way you present them. I appreciate everything you do! "Boring" Blue Skies, Mark !!! If we ever get blue skies here in Ireland, for sure it'll be photographed; cloudy skies, we can export. :-)) Great tip and video, btw.
You are teaching so many things that I have not been able to get out of other tutorials. I like that you show so I can follow along and that you simplify for someone that is not familiar with all the options and affects. There will be plenty of time to become an expert but you bring hope and joy for a beginner to actually edit and not mess up the picture as it was seen when shooting. I love landscape and we all see something different making it fun.
Love the linear gradient intersecting with the sky mask. Very helpful. I feel pretty confident in my composition and camera settings when I’m out but your Lr tutorials have been extremely extremely helpful thank you Mark!
Mark, I am new to LRC and really appreciate you sharing these new innovations with us. LRC is a very busy screen. Could you make your mouse pointer larger or of a different color so it would be easier to follow your screen selections? Again, thank you. I never miss watching your channel each week and your words of encouragement to us new photographers!
Many thanks Mark! Intersecting the sky mask with a linear gradient is something I've never tried, but I'll definitely do so to deal with "hard stop" horizons.
Amazing, I struggle with exactly this! I was always playing with the highlights indeed, but it just wasn't doing the trick. Excited to try out this technique. Thank you so much for sharing :)
I love watching you do editing in Lr. The topic may be something I have figured out on my own, but it is nice to see I am not doing it wrong. Now, this time, I was like, yup, I do that, and that, now that I didn't know. Using the + - tool in masks and the linear gradient on the horizon is a great idea. You never stop learning. Great video, Mark!!
This is so eye opening! I am so glad I found you! I am eager to try this on some of my landscapes. The sky has often made want it to be 'more'. Thank you!!
Encounter this often when I’m shooting drone sunset photos. I’ll be using this technique moving forward! It’s like you reached out to me specifically😂 great tip! I love how powerful LR is becoming. Less and less do I need to move my edit into PS. Very helpful! Keep up the great tutorials!
Hi Mark. Thanks for this. It's great how you can combine masks like this with a little imagination and thought. One slider I've never used in the mask section is the hue slider in the colour adjustments. I wonder if you've ever used it or considered covering it in a video. Seems a bit clunky to me but maybe I just don't know how to use it properly.
Also, using low-frequency local contrast on a (masked) sky can emphasize clouds without making high-frequency detail crispy. Taken too far it can look HDR-ish, but it can often work. Nice video.
Another great video. I have tried using the intersecting linear gradient on the sky and agree it adds realism. What I am reminded of from your video is that I have no idea how to use that color picking section that you used near the end. Do you have a video on that?
Love these videos offering simple tips and explanations. As I start to become more familiar with Lightroom, I've started to ponder how far should I go with edits as I continuously see images taken by other photographers that have clearly been edited and trigger a response of, wow, that looks dramatic but then I have to ask, did it actually look that dramatic in real life when it was taken as it almost looks too dramatic? Its a fine line and I wonder with your experience, do your edits represent what it actually looked like or are they maybe adding a little extra beyond that? There's no right or wrong, I'm just really curious?
Did you do any editing of the upper section of the mountain after you fixed the sky? To me (a novice) it appears there is some detail that "I" would try to bring out. Thanks for the videos, I have learned a lot with you assistance.
When do you mr Denney want to switch over to metric units? They are so clear ,easy and understandably. Not so with the iperial system which is confusing and complicated. don't hesitate, do it!
Maybe its because I'm not a landscape photographer, but I feel like a lot of the amazing Instagram landscapes often have over processed sky. Especially when it comes to the luminosity. Often the sky looks way too dark for how bright the landscape is. Like where is that light coming from, you know? Do you feel like that too, or am I just not getting it? I think you did a pretty good job here though.
I must be the only one who doesn't mind a big open blue sky? I love me some clouds, don't get me wrong, but if there aren't any then I don't really care. I'm taking photos and I'll make it work.

I think your attention to details like this separate you from other photography creators. Keep on inspiring photographers!
I appreciate that!

Another top video from one of the best. Thanks Mark.
Excellent tips, thank you. Looking forward to Bali images!
Thank you for sharing. I learned something new about masking in Lightroom today! Kudos!

Glad it was helpful Michael!

That's and awesome technique. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mark - great technique especially intersecting sky selection with linear gradient 😊
Another excellent video! Thanks!

I love blue skies.
I've seen a few people talk about the intersect mask function but you really made it very clear how it actually works. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Another great video, Mark. I like the idea of warming up the sky by using that colour tool rather than the temperature. Thanks for all these tips.
Thank you Mark for another amazing video!
I'm loving all these newer masking enhancements.
Same here!

Great tips. Hope you had a good time in Norway :-) I am a Norwegian living in the south of our country.

Thank you Mark. Being in Arizona I often encounter the problem of having boring skies.
Thanks for checking out the video friend!
Thanks, Mark. I always enjoy your informative videos on post processing techniques.
Glad you like them!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks Mark! Really helpful tutorial. Love your passion, makes me want to go out and take some pictures.
Thanks so much Alex!
Timely video for me, Mark! Thank you for another AWESOME video!
You got it!
Another great video, Mark. Thank you for sharing your insight!
Glad it was helpful!
Most often i reduce contrast and boost clarity. Reduce saturation like you if needed.
Another very useful demonstration Mark! Thanks
Thanks Richard!
Another great video. I always learn something about post when watching you edit a photo.
Great to hear this Mark!
Thank you!
I've been using the sky mask a lot. By dropping the temperature as well, it will add blue to a bland sky if done subtly.
As always, great video Mark! I absolutely love the photograph. I love how you tied everything together in it.
Means a lot - thanks man!
Excellent tutorial. Many thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Mark and well done great video about editing
Thanks so much Noel!
Really useful Mark, thankyou
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips Mark 😊
Lovely Content. I need to get my self into masking too 🤗

Great vídeo... I was already doing it but not so perfect....

When you subtracted feom the mountain with the brush wouldn’t subtracting object have worked quicker?
Easier way to get rid of mask bleeding is substracting with object selection. Just select a circle and paint it along the top of mountains.
When do you mr Denney want to switch over to metric units? They are so clear ,easy and understandably. Not so with the iperial system which is confusing and complicated. don't hesitate, do it!
MARK can this be done on the mobile app version ? I'm using the version on android. Please can you let me know.thanks 😊

can you do this in Camera Raw ?
You sure can!

Yeah, beggars can't be choosers. Sometimes you have to deal with what's given to you.
