Long time, no tuts! Hope you've been well? This video is a pattern and sewing tutorial for a fishtail/mermaid maxi skirt. Making this project has brought me closer to the formal/occasion wear realm. I used a print fabric for this project and the fabric pattern doesn't match along the seam, I didn't care much for this as my focus was to test the sewing patterns. There are tutorials online that address pattern matching on seams for anyone curious😊
Kim Dave hello Kim. I love yours design, a very beautiful skirt.. so I notice that your fishshape/knee measurent start a little bit below and that would make it a little bit hard to make steps or person wound not move comfortably, what I usually do is I take my total height let say 60inches then minus the length from shoulder to waist lets say its 60 minus 16 so the diff will be 44 then I div 44 by 2 the ans which is 22 I minus 2....that's where my fish shape start.. or that's what I consider as my knee point ...
Priscillia, we all understand the absence of tutorials. It's more than okay to bask in the successful completion of a clothing line. It's your first, too. Enjoy it. It's amazing. You're amazing.
Just got asked to make a dress with this style bottom/train. Started looking around on RUclips and here you are. You never disappoint and your patterns are always spot on! Love your work!
I don't watch your video in a hurry,I take my time because I know every single tutorial of yours have a lot to learn from.thanks so much ma.i love you.
Waow... I love this. My mum saw this type of skirt on T.V and Called me. Princess come and see how pretty this looks... How was it made? I'm so glad I know it better now... I'll make it and go to a wedding tomorrow.... now I have clarity on what to wear. Thanks alot this is so beautiful ma'am.
I don’t think I can thank you enough for this. I need to make a lining to go under my crochet wedding dress and I just couldn’t figure out how to get the shirt shape I need. Thank you x1000 ❤️
Hi Kim Dave, can u please tell me or make a video of how you learned to pattern make any clothing? Or what patternmaking books you used? Also, I followed one of your tutorials and it came out great!😁
I was just about to ask about the pattern not lining up lol. Because it looked like when you cut it out, everything was matching. And I guess with the seam allowance it'll shift a bit but didn't think it would be a lot. Either way this is a beautiful piece, and I would love to make one of my own. I'm actually trying to start a formal-wear line and, with your permission, I would love to attempt the fishtail pattern. However, I may tweak it just a little so it's not a copy, maybe a high-low element with tulle underneath? But thank you for this, it came out amazingly!!
Lovely as always, Sis! I simply adore this look and plan to make one for an event. I have a couple of tops ideas which will work out beautifully. So nice to see you back.
I've actually thought of a dress, and now I think I'm going to sew it. I think about sewing a deep green velvet dress with v-neckline, full bell sleeves and this skirt. I hope I'll manage to do that.
Hi Kim Missed your tutorials Loved your designs for fashion. Hope all is well. Where did you purchase the wide tracing paper you are using in this video. Your work is fantastic you will go far.
Thanks Deb. I got the paper here www.amazon.co.uk/ROYLSOV-GW012503-Sovereign-Natural-Tracing/dp/B000TK5RB8/ref=sr_1_9?crid=23HWOYX1G9GER&keywords=pattern%2Bpaper&qid=1571646783&sprefix=pattern%2Bpap%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-9&th=1
I love it! I want it! I’m gonna make it but I have no where to wear it ☹️. What type of fabrics do you use for linings. I’m still new to sewing and I am at a loss
Love. It ,just love it ,I've never insert a zipper out of fear ,watching you, I'm fearless,Thank you so much just Beauiful, love your print, where did you purchase it if you don't mind me asking.❤
Thank you so much boss.God bless you more for me 🙏🙏🙏🙏 please boss after front panel how inches should I add for the tail at back that will make it long
Thanks for the video. A bit advanced for me though. I just started. Could you please help me on how to draft a 3/4 circle skirt? There are lots of videos on full circle and even half circle but not much non 3/4. Thanks again.
Do you remember what the fashion term for pattern making using your clothes? I forgot and been trying to look up the word. It’s not drafting a pattern ... but when people use their pants or shirt to make a pants pattern .... what’s that called?
I didn't pay attention to the pattern matching because I was testing the sewing patterns. I'm sure there are great tutorials online that will address this. Plus Ankara prints are not symmetrical so cutting two layers doesn't always guarantee the pattern will match along the seams
Hello Kim pourquoi n'avez vous pas fait coïncider les motif mais mine de rien la jupe est jolie🤗🤗 mais j'aurais bien aimé que le fessier soit bien travailler 💖😁❤jolie travail, i love your job

Thank you so much boss.God bless you more for me 🙏🙏🙏🙏 please boss after front panel how inches should I add for the tail at back that will make it long
You are blessed. For the back pattern will it affect the drawings at the edge of a lace fabric?
You will have to add the lace trim by hand to the hem of the skirt
Hi Kim, how can I cut this on a lace fabric without messing up the boarders
Waouh very beautiful thank you so much god blesse you 🙏❤
Thanks for your time
My pleasure
Beautiful
Thanks for the video. A bit advanced for me though. I just started. Could you please help me on how to draft a 3/4 circle skirt? There are lots of videos on full circle and even half circle but not much non 3/4. Thanks again.

What's the name of your overclock machine please?
Great
Please how can I get dis machine
Please ma what is the name of the pattern paper used
How much inch to seaw the tail half or one
I would be happy if you could separate the front and back cos it's a lot confusing pls trace the front and start creating the back
Hi Kim, where did you get that curves rule
You can a similar one on Amazon or Morplan
Hey Kim, I like, but why did the pattern not match up in the back? This is something I have been struggling with in patterns
I didn't pay attention to the pattern matching because I was testing the sewing patterns. I'm sure there are great tutorials online that will address this. Plus Ankara prints are not symmetrical so cutting two layers doesn't always guarantee the pattern will match along the seams
Hi Kim,I don't really like this pattern stuff,it does not make me understand well.
@@KimDave u a best I needed it thanku
Nice!
Pls can u give reason why u didn't do a full lining
Am waist 38 and Hip 44, how many yards do I need for this. Beginner
You will need at least 5 yards, depending on the width of the fabric.
Merci beaucoup madame
I lik it
Hello Kim
pourquoi n'avez vous pas fait coïncider les motif mais mine de rien la jupe est jolie🤗🤗 mais j'aurais bien aimé que le fessier soit bien travailler 💖😁❤jolie travail, i love your job
Naicccc
Okay last comment (I promise): could this be accomplished with a side zipper?
Yes, you will have a seam on the centre back still
Should have matched stripe.
It looks more like straight that fish in front. I wonder how come
The fishtail detail is usually on the back hem of skirts and dresses
