Bears were probably the roughest, toughest team in the league in 1963, but the Giants had more talent at every position and, IMO, they would have defeated Chicago in the NFL Championship that year, had Tittle not been knocked out of the game.
Those low hits by the Bears on Tittle's leg would be outlawed and considered dirty today. Back then it was allowed and why we lost because he threw 2 ints on screen passes and gave the Bears a short field. He couldn't throw the ball downfield. I was 10 and was just beginning to know about football from my brother (RIP). I was hurt and upset they lost because they were better than the Bears.
