Tbh! I have always been buying cheap lip liners as they don't really make much of a difference. There are enough cheap liners in the market and the formula needs to be just right in the middle not too creamy and not too dry. They last long and you can have as many as u want, the pencils are big in size so that's great. However one drawback is that most of the colors in these sets are the same. There are most probably just 5-6 shades and rest all of them are just copy pasted colors but hey 50 cents ain't bad.

I would never buy these. The last time I bought something like this on Amazon, there were only 2 good colors. I didn’t use them frequently. Many of them were crazy Halloween colors that no one would ever wear daily. I ended up having so much clutter and wasting products I never use. Just because it seems like a good deal doesn’t mean it’s the most effective thing for the climate. I’ll stick to buying one lip pencil I truly use for $3-$6

I think whats more problematic is the fact that the people who produced these probably get payed almost nothing and are in horrible working conditions hence the low price. and drug store or even high end makeup doesn't have to be better when it comes to this. best to check individually, where they produce and what kind of labels they use (vegan, cruelty-free, etc.)

So these products are not tested, you are risking allergic reactions and infection. Drugstore makeup must meet the safety standards and all that testing is expensive and long term, even after they put it on shelves they are collecting feedback from the customers which is very important. So its not just exploitation, as you said (who knows maybe they hire children), it’s customer safety which they dont care about.

Pro tip: put the date of when you open ANY AND ALL makeup items. They do have an expiration date, and this will take the guess work of is it expired or not? If you have a huge collection, it is best to be safe.
