Singapore's big investments span across the world from China to the United States. Where do you think the island nation should focus on next? Let us know down below!
no, Singapore NEED China... without China, there is no need for Hongkong or Singapore. we exist because there is a demand for our services, there is a demand for our services because China exist. even without us, China will still exist, but without China, there is no reason for us to exist... this is why we push for RCEP, to ensure China is part of an FTA with ASEAN. it not because China need us to do all this, it is because we need China to continue to function as a hub. else Malaysia can easily take over our role... our advantage come from being majority chinese, this make it easier for us to win the business over Malaysia. if forced to pick, we will have to pick China over US. because all our neighbour are friendlier to China than US. Malaysia and Indonesia is expressing interest in BRICS+. as our leaders always said, Singapore is a "small boat", we cannot sail against the tide. if US cannot convince the majority of ASEAN that they are not evil and seek to create a cold war in Asia, than we will have no choice but to go with the majority, we cannot be "israel" nor is it in US interest to have another "israel"-like problem. if US cannot repair it relation with the muslim, and admit it was wrong, this game is for China to win.
The Suzhou Industrial Park actually wasn't successful. Singapore initially held a majority stake of 65% and China a minority stake of 35%, and local officials built a new park right next to it which stole away businesses and such from SIP, with the result being that SIP failed to turn a profit. Only when SG decreased its stake and the Chinese became the majority stakeholder, then the SIP mysteriously started to make a profit the year after the change happened. SG got cheated on that one.
thanks for pointing that out. even lee kuan yew said "using us to get investors in, and when investors came in, they said: 'You come to my park, it's cheaper."'
At the 1978 meeting in Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew told Deng Xiaoping that the Singapore Chinese were descendants of illiterate landless peasants from Guangdong and Fujian, whereas the scholars, mandarins and literati had stayed and left their progeny in China. "There was nothing that Singapore had done which China could not do, and do better," Lee wrote. "He stayed silent then. When I read that he had told the Chinese people to do better than Singapore, I knew he had taken up the challenge I quietly tossed to him that night 14 years earlier."
Maybe Lee misunderstood Deng's character. Deng was just an old fox. He needed the US to open up for China at the time. He would never say anything to alert the Americans. Singapore, on the other hand, was no real threat to China. He could say anything.

Former Chinese premier Zhu Rongji said overseas Chinese merits in China success cannot be overstated. Before the exodus of big companies and investments into China, the Chinese businessmen from abroad were the first to plunge in. It was tremendous risk and many failed in their ventures. But there are much more success stories. Singaporean economic growth depend much on trades, and 60% of their port calls are goods going to, or from China.
So proud of Singapore leaders. Singapore may be seen as just a "little red dot" by the then obscured short-time President Habibie but Singapore's leaders have the gumption to tell off both big brothers US and China not to force Singapore to take sides in their geo political contest. Singapore just want to trade and carry on with their businesses with countries all over the world and be friends with everyone. (In my opinion, Singapore don't not want to waste time to be somebody's lap dog).
You are right China don’t need Singapore just need Singapore money 💰 , Singapore is the bigger foreign invested nation in China for 9 years in a row start from 2013 to 2022, China is the biggest trading partner with Singapore, either invested or trading, is Singapore money to China not China money to Singapore.
Singapore is a very2 strategic partner. Who ever wins over Singapore is very crucial to future . But Singapore plays her cards well close to her heart. The SG currencies are very strong and China is well aware there is no way they CAN BULLY this little country financially and economically. Mainly due to it's almost corruption free good governance.
No way China can bully Singapore? They can if they wanted to. A good example is confiscating the 6 Terrex armoured vehicles in HK when Singapore commented something China doesn't like.
Ironically the number one investor in Singapore is the US closely followed by China. Likewise, odd enough Singapore is like a hybrid of both China and the US style of government. For instance, they have a democratic system like the US. However, they are even stricter than China. BTW it's a very nice place to raise a family.
Singapore doesn't have too many good years left when China finished the big project in near by Malaysia superseding Singaporean business in refueling, stopovers from 90 % Chinese oil tankers and cargo ships....
Singapore's main interest is being neutral enough to maintain diplomacy and trade with as wide a base as possible. Its military and information sharing setup though aligns with the West far more strongly than other "non-aligned" neighbors like India and Indonesia.
Agree. We are friendly with both US and China. If they get into a fight, we’d best be neutral. Otherwise we could also tear the country apart as many people here side with China over US in some recent cases (eg the Huawei witch-hunt, and the Tik tom saga), myself included.
You mean the Industrial Project where everyone said Lee got conned by the Chinese??? 😂😂😂 The Chinese built a new copycat industrial park right next door after the project.
As a footnote, u need to credit all this to the vision of one man that is Lee Kuan Yew, his vision and foresight together with a core leadership team that was exceptional during a very where an end to colonialism and a lasting world peace since WW2 let to growth and prosperity for nations that was able to take advantage and ride the waves and tides to development and economic success. It was LKY who hosted Deng and charm him and showed Deng what was possible for a small city state to achieve with a strong socialist but democratic system run by strong leaders with integrity, intellect and high moral fiber. Spore not only invested heavily in China, we also are in India but that project has yet to be as successful as China because it was primarily thanks to China's leadership team that too were administrators and a bore flexible mindset towards business which is unfortunately very different in India which is a highly bureaucratic system and lots of dated laws and regulations add corruption to the mix makes a very complex and difficult business environment.
@@barkobummer - Yes LHL is a weak leader very unlike his father which views things more objectively and doesnt cloud his judgement with sentiments and emotions that is what makes LKY a tough and uncompromising leader which is why I admire him alot till today.
@@albertwong1919 LKY was respected all over the world, albeit constantly demonized by the west for being "authoritarian". Western leaders often uses that excuse because they couldn't tell the difference between a patri0t and a businessmen. LKY is a patriot and is very aware of how c0rporations can influence and buy politicians, case in point U$A, which is run by a bunch of c0rporate businessmen or CEOs where everything is run for profits only.
Yes. LKY was respected, even revered in China for his wisdom and his proven track record. And for his ideas and advice to Deng bearing fruit for China. And he would visit China every year and his advice and perspective helped China and Chinese leaders negotiate their way in the world. We do not know if LKY was a moderating influence, translating and explaining to the CCP and her leaders what the actions and reactions of the western world means, and how China should best respond to the perceived slights, insults and provocations of the west. BUT... since his (LKY) passing, China's standing in the world (at least in opinion polls, if not in other aspects) have tumbled. China and her leaders have not had the benefit of LKY's advice and perspective and explanation (of the actions of the West), and she has responded and reacted instinctively, instead of thoughtfully and measuredly and wisely. And China has stumbled in the last few years. Not because they are unwise, but because they do not fully understand the Western world, and the Western mind, and the (western-oriented) world the Dragon is emerging into. For that, they HAD Lee Kuan Yew. Until 2015. (Are not most of China's "missteps" in the years after LKY's passing? Maybe it is just a coincidence.)
@@jparsit DengXP himself said need to emulate Singapore and surpass them. Its well documented China send many officials to study Singapore. So if you can get used to live in Singapore you can also get to live in China.
Yes China is going to surpass every other country! This statement used to be true until Covid happens and Chinese leadership becomes too big for their own good that every western country and her neighbours started withdrawing investment from China.
Superficial analyses based on forgone history. Singapore today is trying hard to remain neutral that’s all. Singapore had once stepped on the Dragon’s Tail. Singapore did not fit Xi Jin Ping’s “Big Country Politics” (大国外交; before “Wolf Warrior Politics”) back then. Author failed to talked about: • Xi Jin Ping personal mistrust of Singapore, whom is more socialist than capitalist - militaristically American leaning. • Even when Lee Kuan Yew passed away, he did not attend, nor he sent a high ranking official from the politburo (central committee) which was already a telling sign. This was in contrast when Malaysian King, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, Brunei's ruler, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and former US president Bill Clinton attended. • After Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spoke about South China Sea (SCS) in an attempt to unite all ASEAN national “against China’s interest” in SCS, Singapore’s transport of army infantry fighting vehicles were impounded in Hong Kong when it was en-routed to Hong Kong for resupply from Taiwan, transiting to go back to Singapore (they were used in Taiwan for training as Singapore lack space). Previously there was never such issue. • Breach and attempt breach of Singapore Armed Forces’ external computer system and civilian partner’s logistical system to acquire information of Singapore’s military personnel. • The hacking of Singapore’s hospital system directly pinpointing to acquire the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s health records - it was probably one of the reason why he had yet to “pass the baton” his next successor to this day. • Hired Singaporean Dickson Yeo to spy on the U.S. whom was working in Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
Would suggest BehindAsia to stick with intro videos on large companies and overview videos on well researched events. Singapore has the same median income purchasing power parity as the U.S. around $54000 per year. Neither are an astounding example of a capitalist Utopia.
Unlike Singapore, the CCP regime does not respect the rule and hangs on to power through repression and deceit. As the saying goes, "absolute power corrupts absolutely". China's current rising unemployment rate, high level of debts, depreciating yuan and other economic woes are the results of CCP's own doing.

This basically is a plea for China to remember Singapore's contribution. Nothing in this video can substantiate the thesis suggested in the title. The subtext for this video's creation should be more interesting to the avid observer.
Thank you for an interesting video with insightful analysis. One has to bear in mind that any small nation state is not inherently relevant to the rest of the world. Life in the rest of the world will still go on without a small nation state. Neither does the rest of the world owe small nation states a living. To survive and prosper, small nation states have to make themselves relevant to others. To this end, Singapore's role as a major investor in China, USA and some other states is not purely driven by market forces, but also by state design. As a small, open nation state without natural resources (other than human resources) Singapore's conduct of foreign policy is one of active engagement with great and regional powers and also with other small states, hopefully in such a way that they all have a vested interest in Singapore's continued viability as a nation state. Admittedly, in an era of increasing geo-political competition, the room for maneuver can become smaller. Thus, skillful diplomacy remains imperative.
@@tvgerbil1984 Your opinion that may not be shared by diplomats from the USA and China in their respective closed-door meetings with their Singapore counterparts, in an era of keener US-China strategic competition.

@@tvgerbil1984 Singapore's ties with Taiwan date back decades, including the use of military training grounds in Taiwan, that pre-date Singapore's resumption of formal diplomatic ties with the PRC. This is due in no small part to the personal ties between LKY and the successive generations of leaders on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. From a certain angle, your last sentence can be interpreted as a subtle and backhanded compliment to Singapore's diplomacy with the PRC leaders. Still, it can be a fragile thing and cannot be taken for granted. In 2016, the HK Customs unexpectedly seized Singapore's armoured personnel carriers in transit via HK harbour from Taiwan to Singapore, To Singapore, Beijing's pointed message was loud and clear.
China remains as Singapore’s biggest investment. Historical roots and culture links back to China. However, the biggest investor in Singapore is still America but soon China will overtake as China had invested in oil companies, construction etc.
@@cocaineminor4420 So true. Luckily we didn't hv those senseless revolutions with senseless citizens who still worship their senseless leaders after being senselessly brainwashed.
SG's roots are Malay and British, the population is just dominated by southern Chinese who were more interested in commerce and adopted Britain's governance setup. S'pore would not be as trusted or viable had it used China's more prescriptive and overbearing political structure.
We shouldn’t be so presumptuous that China “needs” us. We are certainly close to them in terms of mutual benefits and shared culture for most of our citizens, and we are important to them, but we are not critical to them - which is what “needs” mean. We may be critical last time, but in 2023, we should not be so arrogant to think that this global superpower needs us.
I think it is more "Lee Kuan Yew" than "Singapore". Certainly, if you say to the Chinese people or leaders that China needs Singapore, they will be insulted. The rising Dragon does not want to be seen as needing anyone, any single country. That said, they do respect, admire, and hold in high regard LKY. They trust his words, and will give due consideration to his advice. However, since his passing China does not have an independent/external voice to moderate their inclinations. And by them, I mean Xi JinPing. Xi has systematically secured his position, and eliminated any naysayers or possible oppositional voices. Thus China's "nationalistic fervour" has no check, no brakes. They respond almost instinctively, and reflexively to every perceived slight, insult, or provocation. In place of real solutions for high Youth Unemployment, a property market in crisis, falling economic growth, declining and ageing population, they turn to the same old drum beat of "reunification of Taiwan". This is just a rallying cry to bring disparate, desperate, disgruntled people to "rally around the flag". It is jingoistic. But it *might* just work. For a while. Without LKY to advise them to look towards longer term, real solutions, China is left to play short term games and dance to old familiar tune. But, there's no one to tell Xi any different.
I agree with your view. Sg's usefulness to China will decrease with time. I believe Sg leaders and majority of Sg citizens are aware with this reality and plan appropriately in advance.

Fun fact, During Deng Xiaoping Singapore visit, LKY asked Deng Xiaoping what he would do if Vietnam annex Cambodia, Deng told LKY, he was going to attack Vietnam if they across the MeKong River. 😂😂😂😂
Deng also ask LKY, Msia and Thailand to gang up on Vietnam. LKY told Deng they rather gang up on China because China is supporting communism uprising here (Deng didnt know). 3 years later, Deng stop support communism uprising in this area resulted communist separist surrender in late 80s.
On the eve of the Vietnam Invasion 1979 Lee Kuan Yew was seeing Deng off at the Airport (Deng was in Singapore). Deng passed the message through Lee for PRESIDENT NIXON and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger that China was going in to SPANK THE NAUGHTY CHILD VIETNAM 🇻🇳. At that time VIETNAM HAD A GRAND VISION OF A "GREATER VIETNAM " and had invaded and occupied LAOS 🇱🇦 & CAMBODIA 🇰🇭. Lee Kuan Yew said in his BIOGRAPHY that it was IRONIC that whilst USA failed to STOP NORTH VIETNAMESE TAKING OVER SOUTH VIETNAM 🇻🇳 ... CHINA 🇨🇳 WAS THE ONE THAT MANAGED TO STOP VIETNAMESE EXPANSION IN SOUTH EAST ASIA. You also want to go beyond the stereotype. Singapore invested $50 billion US dollars into India and it's the largest investor in India and India has companies which have invested 63 billion US dollars according to the Confederation of Indian industry into Singapore. Bear in mind that Singapore's Prime Minister said that the Indo-Pacific is the future when Singapore with Malaysia and Indonesia joined into Pacific which is US-led and it is about trade and security. Singapore also signed a comprehensive economic treaty with India many years ago and now wants to do the same with China.
China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Peru, Uruguay, Equador have all signed the RECP trade agreement mooted by ASEAN and all the participating ASEAN countries. It’s the world’s largest Free Trade Agreement comprising about 30% of global GDP and about a third of the world’s population. So the Asia Pacific region best economic vibrant place to be. Perhaps more than the US relationship is Singapore’s relationship with the “5 Eyes”, particularly Australia who are much more integrated in the region, and the strained relations between Australia and China.
Wow, some real ‘intellectual’ comments here. I think my point that SG is less likely to get tied up between US/China and more likely 5 eyes/China (as they actually work with 5 eyes as a third party) went straight over the heads of these keyboard warriors who prefer their own imaginations.
Currently the relations are easing thanks to Penny Wong Australia foreign minister. Hopefully Australia will find a nice balance with USA and China rather than be manipulated into fear just to bring in votes by a political party.
Do you even know who’s is the 5 eye member before making naive comments? 5 eye members are only including USA , CA, Australia, Japan and UK since when Singapore was in the 5 eye ?
Singapore also lost a lot of money as well but of course did not reveal to what extent. They used the CPF (Central Provident Fund) pension money to pay for a lot of it.

My comment got Singaporeans in hot water. Singapore's GDP compared to China is a peanut and not an ASEAN leader. It is not as good as the media said. SG is also a center of money laundering, especially for ASEAN politicians and businessmen. The good part is a clean and organized city that makes money on services and investment not manufacture. It is an authoritarian capitalism, not a model of China. In politic, SG is a banana. Yellow skin but white heart, and the young SG is white-washed. But it is OK, up to you.

I don’t know how smart is China’s leadership but 3 years of Covid certainly taught me that my small imperfect Singapore government is a million times better than other government around the world. At the very least, all the mistakes our government made, they apologised for it.
I always hope that Thailand will have a new canal to share the prosperity of sea transportation. They could be as rich as Singapore. But due to some reasons, the big projects are delayed forever...

You mean you don’t know that there’s many Muslim insurgents living at the southern part of Thailand waiting to separate Thailand from the Buddhist fraction up north? You should travel more to see it for yourself. If I had never travelled to the southern part of Thailand, I wouldn’t have known the terror that existed there.
It’s a joke of the month? No way China need Singapore, it should be the other way round? Just imagine what if China were to pull out all it investment and deposit? In fact Singapore is the most vulnerable country among ASEAN or should I say Asia.
Excellent insight. Debt to Gdp 140% . Constantly borrowing without accountability. Never ever reveal statements on national reserves. All guessing game
I would say Singapore is one of several countries that have assisted in China growth. In the early years of China opening up, Indonesians, Malaysians, Thais, and particularly HKers helped a lot in setting up factories and in the export of goods. In later years the Taiwanese and other Overseas Chinese came in. While the Singapore Govt did invest quite substantially in China many of the projects either were not profitable or suffered heavy losses. This, according to many sources in China, both personnel and government officials who have worked in Sino projects are of the opinions that Singapore government officials didn’t understand of Chinese mannerism and dealing, their mandarin were not good, too westernised thinking, etc. I have also know many Spore Govt ventures abroad like in Australia, UK, US, France also suffered losses. That’s the problem of having educated, technocrats to engage in business. I know Singaporeans like to blow their trumpets saying how good the technology and innovation of Spore are. What BS almost all of its technology are imported, but they are good in managing them I would say. Basically in spore yes you have good education and many people have graduated from top universities, but they can’t really work. There you have desk engineers, passive IT professionals that can’t code, etc
On IT issue, being one in the past, favor in tech training usually was given to foreigner whom was technically better (the reason they were employed), new locals mostly only got yearly local training like table manners, social hangling .......company called soft skill that's "essential" etc. In turns of oversea(technically advancement almost all in usa), maybe days or weeks of training, at most condensed into an hours of summary session of "sharing". With this going on for years, there is no reason why there is no gap in levels of skills. One of the reason I left this industry. BTW foreigners usually left Singapore in matters of years, only sees a few whom married to locals stays, of which local spouse also went to USA for a better life.(ps: know some will argue....... I'm sharing the accounts 20~40 years ago).
LKY did specifically want the five stars from the PRC flag to reflect the Chinese majority, which got combined with the crescent moon and Indonesian colors for its Malay people and origin.
and Singapore is going down following China . It also has a falling local population and birthrate due to high costs of living and a major problem of employment for young people . With its current and future population it is no longer a sustainable country , is a heat trap due the massive use of concrete and tarmac , and even now has water resource problems . Moving away from its sustainable population of 3.5 million 20+ years ago was a big mistake and future generations will pay the price . Unless Singapore curbs its cheap foreign employment policy , there will be problems
Singapore is now more like EU, everything is nice but no future! Fir the passed 50 years Singapore doesn’t had any new idea to further develop it economy just go by living on it passed niches. But Singapore somehow lucky keep knocking at it door when they are about to slip into a depthless recession. If it’s not those genius from Swiss, Europe and America confiscated Russia wealth and threatening China they will do the same if China were to reclaim Taiwan military Singapore recession would have be very very painful. Singapore need to thanks those genius from Swiss, Europe and especially America for it help to Singapore by helping Singapore to be the new Swiss of Asia after Hong Kong. Huge among of money from the whole world riches flew to Singapore and Hong Kong. This will continue for a while because even the Ukraine war stop those very riches will not dare to return to park their wealth either liquid and solid back to there again. The reclamation of Taiwan will be another assets exodus however Singapore unlikely will benefit from it because Singapore will definitely be drag into the fight because Singapore is America biggest military bases outside america territory.
How is it possible Singapore is lucky for 57 years? You’re giving Singapore too much credit for being lucky! 😂 we Singaporeans don’t believe in luck though, we depend on hard work and a strong support and trust between Government and People to pull thru every crisis like how we have dealt with Covid. There’s not many countries where the people and government trust each other and work closely together to create miracles.
What is often not known nor understood is that China's system of governance is similar to Singapore's in being authoritarian and democratic at the same time. China drew inspiration from Singapore. Being a one-party state does not prevent having democracy. In fact, according to Latana's Democracy Perception Index 2023, China is perceived as the 6th most democratic country in the world, well ahead of Germany, Spain, Canada, Italy, UK, USA, France, and Japan. You see, democracy does not have to be based on the Western liberal model. There is more than one way to achieve democracy.
There's no democracy in any nation in the world, the last time it was seen was in ancient Greece where every citizen had the rights to directly vote on each law, rule, policy, regulation, etc. No head of state or representative was involved in a true democracy. Democracy simply means People Ruled.
An autocratic democracy exist in Singapore simply because Singapore is just too small to be anything else. If Singapore was as big as China, it would be impossible to have one dominant political party taking all the seats, there would be many more political parties popping up from such a huge population. I mean just any of the provinces in China is already bigger than the entire country of Singapore.

thanks for pointing that out. even lee kuan yew said "using us to get investors in, and when investors came in, they said: 'You come to my park, it's cheaper."'

That's capitalism, the other park was a legal business and was free to compete, so don't complain.

Before the exodus of big companies and investments into China, the Chinese businessmen from abroad were the first to plunge in. It was tremendous risk and many failed in their ventures. So proud of Singapore leaders. Singapore may be seen as just a "little red dot" by the then obscured short-time President Habibie but Singapore's leaders have the gumption to tell off both big brothers US and China not to force Singapore to take sides in their geo political contest.
And now it looks like China's overbearing dictatorship is bringing all this undone.

Singapore today is trying hard to remain neutral that’s all. Singapore had once stepped on the Dragon’s Tail.
Singapore did not fit Xi Jin Ping’s “Big Country Politics” (大国外交; before “Wolf Warrior Politics”) back then.
Author failed to talked about:
• Xi Jin Ping personal mistrust of Singapore, whom is more socialist than capitalist - militaristically American leaning.

One has to bear in mind that any small nation state is not inherently relevant to the rest of the world.
Life in the rest of the world will still go on without a small nation state.
Neither does the rest of the world owe small nation states a living.
To survive and prosper, small nation states have to make themselves relevant to others.
To this end, Singapore's role as a major investor in China, USA and some other states
is not purely driven by market forces, but also by state design.
As a small, open nation state without natural resources (other than human resources)
Singapore's conduct of foreign policy is one of active engagement with great and regional powers
and also with other small states,
hopefully in such a way that they all have a vested interest in Singapore's continued viability as a nation state.
Admittedly, in an era of increasing geo-political competition,
the room for maneuver can become smaller.
Thus, skillful diplomacy remains imperative.
It is alright for Singapore to play both sides. China is quite benign on Singapore's relationship with Taiwan, as long as it is kept low key.

Singapore is 76% Chinese.
no, there are actually many mixed bloods (including myself), but registered under 'Chinese' race to learn the language and have greater HDB quota, as well as PR/foreign workers who made up 40% of the residents here which has a much lower East Asian proportion.
Singapore investment sovereign funds US689 billions in China
Greatest Joke, haha ha....😅
Actually is opposite. Last time China go SG learn. Over the years China develop fast and swift. SG wise after LKY no longer in charge and later RIP. Under LHL is unlike LKY days. In fact is SG depend from China now beside USA.
Fast does not mean durable though, especially with how much of China's growth is all from debt to fund increasingly unproductive builds 🐢🐇 America's share will drop as it relocalizes production, but SG's continued prosperity is more likely to come from India and ASEAN 🇮🇳🍚
nah, china doesn't need Singapore. if Singapore disappear suddenly...china doesn't feel differently...
i think Singapore need china more than china need Singapore(almost zero)
Do Singapore have the funds that China needs? No, China already has a huge amount of funds on its own.
Is there a market in Singapore that China needs? No, the market is too small.
Does Singapore have the technology that China needs? No, I haven't heard of any high-tech in Singapore. Don't tell me that Thundersnake is considered high-tech
I agree with you but except Malacca. Singapore still has many investments and those businesses are increasing fast, such as GIC, Capital Land which is known in every majority city. But China doesn’t have much profit from SG

Is it fun?
that's ok if Vietnam attacked
REASON USA 🇺🇸 was in SOUTH VIETNAM was to prevent what they called the DOMINO'S EFFECT of South East Asia countries falling to COMMUNIST NORTH VIETNAM. My memory might be a little off but i believe Lee Kuan Yew and Henry Kissinger wrote about this in their BOOKS 📚 😉...

SG needs China, ASEAN, and the US. Only SG claimed it for credit. All other countries kept quiet. Deng visited SG and forget SG on the way back home.

Singapore will lose a lot doing business with China
China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Peru, Uruguay, Equador have all signed the RECP trade agreement mooted by ASEAN and all the participating ASEAN countries. It’s the world’s largest Free Trade Agreement comprising about 30% of global GDP and about a third of the world’s population. So the Asia Pacific region best economic vibrant place to be. Sg is thankful for this.

Perhaps more than the US relationship is Singapore’s relationship with the “5 Eyes”, particularly Australia who are much more integrated in the region, and the strained relations between Australia and China.
SINGAPORE WILL NOT TAKE SIDE..WILL DO IT TOGETHER WITH ASEAN..
Pls lah 5 eyes useless
They talk no action only
Where got serious 😂😂😂

Singapore? Ligapore!
China needs all including Starait of Malacca
My comment got Singaporeans in hot water. Singapore's GDP compared to China is a peanut and not an ASEAN leader. It is not as good as the media said. SG is also a center of money laundering, especially for ASEAN politicians and businessmen. The good part is a clean and organized city that makes money on services and investment not manufacture. It is an authoritarian capitalism, not a model of China.
In politic, SG is a banana. Yellow skin but white heart, and the young SG is white-washed. But it is OK, up to you.
Nothing but facts. Collapse is on the horizon. Recently everything up 20 to 25% . Supermarket n bakery stores. Town council(PAP) conservancy n maintenance chgs up 15% . HDB Bto prices absurd levels. Build more make huge profits. Set a debt trap for 30 to 35 yrs. When foreign business fail to make money due to very high cost they will pack up. It's coming. Be ready
White washed?
Do you even know the culture in Singapore lol it's southeast Asian culture not even white washed
Captain should be Why Singapore need China
Size difference apart, Singapore is smart. China is smart, shrewd, cunning and bold.
that's what a white-washed said.
And heartless.
I don’t know how smart is China’s leadership but 3 years of Covid certainly taught me that my small imperfect Singapore government is a million times better than other government around the world. At the very least, all the mistakes our government made, they apologised for it.
I think singapore even richer than china
I always hope that Thailand will have a new canal to share the prosperity of sea transportation. They could be as rich as Singapore. But due to some reasons, the big projects are delayed forever...
Thais are super corrupt
Who pay? U pay?
port services make up at most around 5% of Singapore's current GDP nowadays. Its no longer how Singapore amassed her wealth nowadays, the sea routes are not as important as it used to be
edit: correction, sea routes still important, but there are plenty of other ways to learn from Singapore to get rich
When Thailand builds the Kra Canal, wake me up. I'll continue my sleep for another 100 years . . . zzzzzzzzz . .
Lol another fool using trumpeting the debt ratio. Go and actually read up what Singapore’s debt is and then come back and talk
I wonder if GIC will be realizing huge losses with its investment in Alibaba?
Actually, GIC made money in Alibaba. It got in early. Worst investments are in India. Nothing works there.

The real super power to super powers is sg . That's why no one can force sg to take sides. Agree?😅
and Singapore is going down following China .
If US China war erupt Chinese missiles will hit American facilities in Sg. Be neutral. Is it possible? Actions speak louder than words
The People's Republic of China was established in 1949, long before Singapore. It's Singapore copied PRC.
There's no democracy in any nation in the world, the last time it was seen was in ancient Greece where every citizen had the rights to directly vote on each law, rule, policy, regulation, etc. No head of state or representative was involved in a true democracy. Democracy simply means People Ruled.
@@Anonymous------ No. Deng Xiaoping ushered in sweeping reforms in 1978 based partially on his observations of Singapore.
@@Anonymous------ You're talking about referenda. Democracy has evolved since the time of the Greeks.
