Denmark is very conservative in that regard. I saw one particular post on Facebook a few years before Heilung even existed that they had seen a "dreadful looking Norwegian woman with dreadlocks" on the bus which would have been Maria's daily commute when she was a librarian. Experiences like that could be where it came from. I bought merch from her a few times at Valravn shows and she was always very guarded and self-protective, coming across perhaps even as a little arrogant in the way that people can be when they have built a wall around themselves after being harassed by idiots. My ex was the same - didn't like her much until the walls came down.
She is stunning! However, many of us females while growing up in a society which promotes a constant changing visual/ surface level of beauty , feel horrendous. The makeup doesn't feel right. The clothes are awkward. When you begin to present authentic to how you feel. You feel and present beauty.

I am so thankful to Heilung, for they have opened my eyes to a rich and beautiful heritage, as well as a thriving community of the most wonderful people.
I too am from the United states but I found myself in medieval groups. Sure its not something historical to the United States but it taps into that European heritage a lot of us have. Just found this band. It was Maria's outfit that caught my eye on RUclips, so I clicked on it and listened. WOW, this is like Kai's singing is taking every toxic thought, feeling and emotion from your soul and then you are transported like a baby to be cradled by Maria's voice of soothing angelic tones, one day I wish to see them for the experience, they are magnificent to say the least.
Thank you for this video that allows an insight on their previous lives. I feel lucky to have met them backstage of Castlefest 2017 where I was also playing, after their concert I was deeply emotional and even cried while they recited the elder futhark, that performance was legendary, a true portal to the otherworld opened during that concert. I was so supersized when Christopher and Maria said that was the first time they ever performed it like that, it felt that they were joking, but they were not. They are amazing and the world definitely need their healing powers.

Interesting as this is, I feel you leave out the important fact that Maria and Christopher had been recording together as Euzen and doing some quite interesting stuff in video form for some years previously. And that Christopher had also been involved with a more grass roots electro-medieval project called Valravn, which Maria also guested with several times. Euzen even warmed up for Valravn on one tour of Denmark. Both those bands were very special. I miss the hell out of both of them. The way this is presented makes it seem as if Kai and Christopher magically produced a career in music out of thin air, which was not the case. The Castlefest appearance would surely not have been possible if Euzen's appearance at the same festival a few years before hadn't been such a big success.

I find the mysterious rites and practices of the ancients, fascinating. I studied the art of flint knapping. I have my own set of handmade antler bone tools.

Have any animals been killed for the purpose of costumes? It would help me so much if somebody knows this.

I know their bone instrument is liek really really old, because theyre not allowed to be made anymore. Some of which contain human bones as well. But where is the wolf? I see a lot of reindeer pelts, which is normal, the samis make them. Wolves are especiaslly protected in sweden atleast, they belong in nature. The samis however, (indigenous to the northern nordic countries and russia) as well as elk hunters though wants all the wolves dead as well as the hunters. I am still annoyed that my favorite tattoo artist isn't working where he made my first tattoo xD I mean.... What if I ever can afford a new one? xD I guess I can take comfort in that he is in one of my favorite bands xD
For a strange reason I feel new to Heilung. yet I've followed them for about 3 years I suppose. Ive been Pagan for years. Also a musician in rock bands and listened to various ethnic instruments. Heilung are not just an experimental sound. They like all brothers and sisters are part of my journey this time round. I live in the UK county of Essex. Which was once part of Danes law, These were my ancestors, Heilung brings me closer to them and the culture. Also gives me a deeper connection in many way. Heilung have created a sound that brings us all closer together. All Hail unto them,
I also took the path with Kai. I read lots of books about Egypt and the Greek pantheon into Satanism in middle school. The myths are fun to read with the added benefit of seeing through the eyes of others. 🖤🍻⚔️
Do they have faith behind it, or is it just performative to reconstruct the past? No doubt music on and itself can be healing. But I wonder if the rest is just a costume to them or what's the story behind their outfits and performance.
@@CuriousTunes have they talked about their faith in public? If they're practicing a shamanistic religion of any kind, I feel it's a huge pity the majority of their fans will just know them as "Vikings" and nothing else.
Having grown up strictly Evangalical (in a part of the world where it wasn't even popular), Greek mythology also was my gateway drug. I think it's so popular for curious Christian children as a lot of christian thought expands upon pre-christian Greek and Roman philosophy (mostly stoicism and Platonisism), so somehow there is some cultural acceptance for engaging with texts of that mythology. That same leniecy didn't expand to Germanic paganism however.
I think it’s due to the spirituality of Ancient Rome and Greece being so intertwined, and well, later Christianity was merged with those roots. It’s has a sacred role to its perceived status as the source of western civilization. There is more to it for sure, but yeah, it enjoys a privileged spot in the collective unconsciousness in the psyche of western civilization
@@CuriousTunes Yes, you’re absolutely right! It’s still odd that Greek and Roman mythology enjoy that privilege though. Germanic paganism left such a big impact on our folk psyche and even intermixed in the catholic tradition. Traditions such as major and minor religious festivals and the roots of the various saints. Around where I live, in the rural villages of the Limburg province of the Netherlands, the pre-Christian cultural influences are still very tangible (even though most people wouldn’t recognize them as such). Those are as much bedrock to Western thought as Greco-Roman thought.
@@SuperMcScotty I would assume the Germanic apprach towards spirituality did not align with the aim of control at all. Point being, if your intent is to control and maintain an empire, having "savages" run around and do what they feel is right, could be seen as a very real threat. The spirit of greek paganism might have aligned more with values of control. I mean, it is likely not by chance, that so many huge empires sprang up in that area. Super complicated, but also interesting topic though.
I lost too may parts of myself tryna be a fundamentalist Christian wife.:( I found myself again when I took part in Lakota ceremonies and walking the Red Road with the man who I've been with for 20 years now!:D
It does say something about the state of modern Christianity that some people are seeking out a paganism substitute. Kai seems like a weird guy though so I don't think his attraction to paganism means anything. I think the popularity of Heilung is interesting and meaningful.
Since i distanced myself from Christian religion and embraced the old gods I felt free and felt like had found finally what I was looking for call it built in instinct in my dna as I have discovered my family goes back to Scandinavia my mothers maiden name was originally thorston

So long story short: Connecting to our all Roots means healing for everyone !
About right =D
Thank you so much for that Work über die Band Heilung.
And thank you so much for the encouraging comment :)
All Hail unto them,
Well said :)
I also took the path with Kai. I read lots of books about Egypt and the Greek pantheon into Satanism in middle school. The myths are fun to read with the added benefit of seeing through the eyes of others. 🖤🍻⚔️
Some journey there, and yes the myths are 🔥
Do they have faith behind it, or is it just performative to reconstruct the past? No doubt music on and itself can be healing. But I wonder if the rest is just a costume to them or what's the story behind their outfits and performance.
I promise you, they are knee deep into it. Christopher was literally raised in a asatro home and Kai is a practicing shaman.
@@CuriousTunes have they talked about their faith in public? If they're practicing a shamanistic religion of any kind, I feel it's a huge pity the majority of their fans will just know them as "Vikings" and nothing else.
@@Kotifilosofi Yes on multiple interviews you can find online, including youtube.
@@CuriousTunes that's great! However, in that case, I find it depressing that the vast majority of people seem to know them as just "the Vikings" :/
Can you make the same video in french, please ?
We sadly don’t master French :(
See you in DC the 17th!!
Maria is one of the most beautiful girls Ive ever seen hands down!

Always ❤ you guy..m if sone whant to gove me energeny its YOY Dobt forget
Hell yes .
I lost too may parts of myself tryna be a fundamentalist Christian wife.:( I found myself again when I took part in Lakota ceremonies and walking the Red Road with the man who I've been with for 20 years now!:D
Once my trust isveqrned, my behavior will change from strengh to love.
It does say something about the state of modern Christianity that some people are seeking out a paganism substitute. Kai seems like a weird guy though so I don't think his attraction to paganism means anything. I think the popularity of Heilung is interesting and meaningful.
Where is this Norse living thing they went to?
Different Viking markets in Scandinavia:)
Since i distanced myself from Christian religion and embraced the old gods I felt free and felt like had found finally what I was looking for call it built in instinct in my dna as I have discovered my family goes back to Scandinavia my mothers maiden name was originally thorston
Name means nothing, spirit, everything. Welcome home.
@@CuriousTunes thanks
Same here brother, the Abrahamic religions are evil. They have meant the death of many cultures and sacred connections
I have been drawn to the Norse culture and growing as i got older then discovering from ancestors tree services i am related to Ragnar Lodbrok on my fathers side. We both now share Norse history and merch and enjoy Heilung and more to discover.
the video is great, thank you for making it! but the narrator sounds like an AI that wants to sound human
Well, i can promise it’s not. It’s just a video we made a while back and we’ll, we learn and get better :)
GOD works in mysterious ways to guide us in the right direction.
