Actually Key took part on production of Bad love. From costumes for jacket shoot, album concept to MV. He really worked hard and had many meetings and arguments to do what he wanted to do for many years. If you see the album cover and concept it's on another level. And all songs in it. He wrote about 2 songs as well. Please check them. You will see heaven for sure

Key worked really hard to make sure this comeback was based on his concept. The wardrobe, mv, and the aesthetics were all his work. He pitched to the company and was able to truly express himself with his work. #proudshawol

Yes, the featured rapper/female singer in Key's "I Wanna Be" is Soyeon, the leader and main rapper from (G)I-dle.
"I Wanna Be" is a tribute song to Shawols. If you look up the lyrics you will see that the song is really sweet. This song was a gift to Shawols as he left for the military on the same day that this MV was released. This song was meant to keep us company until he was discharged. "I Wanna Be" was the title track from his repackaged album, released in 2019, which is a followup to his solo debut album Face.
Key had his solo debut in 2018 right before he went off to serve in the military, so his debut includes his album called Face -- with MVs for his songs "Forever Yours" and "One of Those Nights" -- and his repackaged album I Wanna Be with it's title track "I Wanna Be" MV and his SM Station single "Cold" MV. In between his solo debut album and his repackaged album, he also came out with a Japanese album called Hologram.
As Key has mentioned in interviews, although he felt it was time to release his first solo album, the songs on this album and repackage wasn't really a full representation of him as an artist. He said he wasn't ready to show that side of himself yet. Which is why with his Bad Love album, we got to see more of an authentic Key with his design and style in the songs. He said his solo debut was so rushed because of his military enlistment date, that he didn't have the time to really make the kind of album that he would have liked.
Although Key is an amazing dancer, he did not choreograph any of his solo dances himself. If you watch the behind the scenes of him preparing for his solo debut you will see that he worked with choreographers to come up with the dances, ruclips.net/video/8BExBMcKdYc/видео.html. However, they all praised him for his skill and ability to pick up the dance so quickly.
Key is the fastest of the SHINee members to learn a new set of choreography and they say he has it memorized on the first try. Key has a photographic memory when it comes to dances. He even memorizes all the members parts in SHINee's songs, both the song and dance -- including SHINee's Japanese songs. So he is the one the members go to if they need help remembering a part of the song or dance.
You should check out one of Key's girl group dance compilation videos to see just how good he is at copying dances, ruclips.net/video/DnZF9RsDFCI/видео.html, (This compilation video, "key girl group dance(new version)" isn't really new any more, but it is one of the best examples of just how good he is.) Or his perfect random dance skills on an episode of Weekly Idol where he was actually promoting his solo debut, ruclips.net/video/ihFffjY4e4Y/видео.html -- here is a link to the full episode with English subs.

"Bad Love" is straight out of classic '80s - rock ballad/ electro-rock/ dance-pop. However, it mixes in '60s, '70s era sci-fi elements. If you like the sci-fi retro theme in Key's "Bad Love" MV, if you haven't already, you should check out his "Bad Love Mood Sampler" video -- it's a teaser video that came out a few days before Bad Love's release. Now, that video is straight out of a '50s or '60s sci-fi TV show or movie. Which will make all the campy-cool space images in the "Bad Love" MV make a lot more sense.
Key said his style is more of the retro '80s/'90s MTV, so that's the treatment they used to come up with his comeback concept.
SM usually spares no expense when it comes to their videos, stages or concerts, etc. because they know that whatever they spend they will get it back 10 fold in profits. SM is one of the most innovative and trendsetting companies in Korea and its the company that founded the Kpop industry. However, Key says he really had to fight with SM to get them to give him the budget he had and to allow him to create this concept for his song. He says he has wanted to do this sci-fi retro theme with SHINee practically from debut, and he finally -- after a lot of fighting -- had enough sway and pull with SM to get them to agree to let him do it with this solo comeback.
SM's songwriter Kenzie was the lyricist/producer of this song with contributions made by Key. Key came to her with the idea to create a retro '80s/'90s style song that fit his vision for what he wanted this album to represent, and this is what Kenzie and Key came up with.
Everything you see and hear was designed by Key. This is 100% authentically Key's style -- from the storyline of the MV to the sound and style of the song, to the outfits everyone wore, to the set design, etc. -- it's all based on his ideas and design. He even helped design the outfits that the backup dancers are wearing. It's Key's vocals you hear in the whole song -- including the deeper whisper parts.
The person in the mirror is the woman who is haunting him with her bad love. He is thinking of her and remembering what she put him through during their relationship, so she appears in the mirror like a memory that won't go away.
As Key has explained, the storyline in this MV is about how his character is going crazy, trapped in his mind, and while watching TV he projects himself into the scenes on TV. Every time the channel changes, his character is shown in a different scene in the MV. (And it's not modern day TV programs, as you can see from the aesthetic, it's supposed to remind you of '80s/'90s international/U.S. TV programs.) That is why at the end you see him haggard and worn out looking. The TV goes fuzzy and he is pulled out of his crazy warped fantasy world and brought back to reality. Where he is recovering from the "Bad Love."
I think "Bad Love" has become my favorite song of 2021, and it's not just because I am a Shawol. I mean I can't even think of a song that came out even in the last few years, that compares to how much I love everything about "Bad Love." (Minho's "Heartbreak" and Onew's "One Star (Way)" are close seconds.)
As I think you know, Key is our fashionista of the group, who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. To Key, fashion is about being unique and looking for ways to stand out, without being outrageous. So everything you see him wearing will be very trendy and fashion forward. Key can pretty much wear anything -- time and time again, he has shown that the fashion styles and clothing that would often look ridiculous or just average on most people, when he wears it, always looks high fashion and cool. That same thing could be said about all the members of SHINee, with their own unique styles.
Many people in the industry look to Key when it comes to fashion trends. That's also why SM has made him its director of fashion. Key is friends with several big name designers. With SHINee's experimental concept, the group is also known for creating fashion trends, so designers really covet a chance to work with any of the members of SHINee -- but especially Key -- because SHINee will give them street cred and undoubtedly make them more popular.
Key is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. He has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized.
And on top of all of that, he is SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. That is why his pronunciation of the English lines in his songs are so crisp and clear. That is also why he specifically included the song "Helium" on his Bad Love album, which is all in English for his international fans.
As a member of SHINee, Key's amazing vocal range and dance skills shouldn't be surprising, that's just what the members of SHINee are known for. And, not only is Key an amazing singer, but he is also one of SHINee's rappers. How often do you see a rapper with that type of vocal range? That's why SHINee are so highly respected in the industry because almost no one can do it the way SHINee does it.
He is also a K-drama and movie actor, so he knows how to act. And, as a musical stage actor, he knows how to use his full vocal range, and he has no problem projecting his voice to the back of the theater. Plus, he is one of the most popular guests/cast members on variety shows, so he knows how to capture people's attention.
As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, everything SHINee does is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. Everything the members of SHINee release should be a sound and style you have never heard in Kpop before, because they are the ones who are supposed to introduce the next style and sound to the industry. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last -- including the members solo work -- so you will never hear the same style or sound from Key in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always be very Key-like.
The industry looks to the members of SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. When any of the members of SHINee does something, the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. And Key's solo work is no exception.

I have never clicked so fast!!!!
Yeeeeees, that's my 14 year long ult baby, that's my king, that's my icon supreme!
I love love love Kibum's solo work. I mean, yeah I'm biased of course, but genuinely, it's probably my fave of the SHINee solo's (don't get me wrong, they're all amazing! But, Key's style of music is the most me.).
His albums are always so cohesive and well-put together, his aesthetic is always top-notch, and his performances are out of this world.
And yep, his vocals, his dancing!! Tbh, I think his talents are pretty underappreciated actually...
Bad Love changed the game for me. He killed it. Album of the year.
He said that the whole concept was an idea he's had for 10+ years, (he loves retro-future and sci-fi themes. He was really inspired by David Bowie and the film 2001: A Space Odyssey when making this album) and he was just waiting for the opportunity to explore it, and he finally got his wish. He had input in everything. Album design, MV, song writing, styling - and you can tell. It all oozes Kibum's personality and character.
He also got his first music show win with it!
And yep Ja, you will find out that Kibum is besties with all the K-Pop girlies. He's honestly the only make idol I know that has so many close female friends, and doesn't care who knows it.
And I love that Key is wrecking you so much 😂 His power 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Bad Love is my favorite. And my dream of seeing him singing it live just came true last Sunday when he performed in a concert here in the Philippines. He really did wreck us so hard!!! Even the non shawols watching were so amazed (since there were other artists in the concert as well). I thought I was so used to watching him but it's really different seeing him in person. The songs got better 10000000x. I couldn't move on. His stage presence was everything, be it during the performance or his ment/talk part, he charmed everyone. Really hope more people get to discover Key as he is so amazing.

But nooooo… I absolutely cannot wait until later to watch this. lol. I’m excited!! Sleep deprived, but excited!
    Update #1
You HAVE to watch him perform “Bad Love” live!!! It’s not a want, it’s a requirement. I’m not even joking. And I can’t even pick a favorite, so I just suggest them ALL (especially since he adds extra flair and changes things up nearly every time…it’s a very SHINee thing to keep tweaking performances). Start with his performance at SBS Gayo Daejeon.

Seeing you lose it for Key Key bias truly made my day today! To think SM thought his concept would flop for Bad Love and gave him hell for it that he broke down after filming the music video because of all the push backs and arguments. To think we, SHINee World, were denied a music video for Helium, which is an all English bside track from Bad Love album because SM was rushing him and didn't want to put money into it. Also read somehwere he had to put his own money to get this album going! SM is infuriating!

  • @milindawilson9175
    @milindawilson9175 2 года назад +1

So, here is my theory about what I think is happening in Key's "Hate That ..." MV.
Some people have said they think Key was hitting a self-destruct button which caused his spaceship to carean out of control -- referencing how his life is self-destructing after the breakup -- but I interpret it more as he is pressing the button to disengage his space capsule from the rocket boosters, etc. which is what is keeping him up there in space and on a perpetual orbit of the Earth. So, when he hits the button we see the capsule detach from the rest of the ship and fall back down to Earth, where we then see him back on Earth with Taeyeon. (He is crash landing back to reality and is no longer allowing himself to orbit in the realm of living in the past and allowing himself to continue to obsess over the relationship.)
Just to clarify, the words of the song are meant to be self-loathing. They say, "I hate that I hate that you're happy without me." So Key and Taeyeon are saying that they hate that they can't stop themselves from hating their ex just because that person is happy without them. So in other words, they are saying, we had a perfect breakup and it should have been easy, but "I hate that I still can't get over you and that I still love you. ... I wish you were in as much pain as I am right now," etc. They are saying that they are wishing or "praying" that their ex would regret breaking up with them because they wish their ex was having just as hard of time getting over them as they are. Key says I love you once in the song because he is only allowing himself to admit that he still loves them, once. It's like he can no longer hold back the fact that no matter how much he knows the breakup was for the best, he reluctantly has to admit that he still loves them.
Fun fact: The song was originally wrote by Charlie Puth.
At the end of the MV we see what looks like Taeyeon being rescued from the rock that she has been trapped on in the middle of the ocean. (The rock representing a rough, unforgiving place that is extremely uncomfortable, etc. in the middle of the cold desolate ocean all alone with nowhere to go.) Which I see as her being pulled out of that dark place. And as the news report on the TV screen says, "Breaking News: Woman rescued after ..." We don't know what comes after the word after because it's up to us all to decide how we choose to live our lives after a breakup, each individual person fills in the blank with their own idea of what "after" looks like.
Key and Taeyeon are best friends and they have a sibling relationship -- often referred to as the Kim siblings -- so they are most definitely not portraying that they were in a relationship together. (That would just be kind of weird. LOL) As they mentioned during their VLive event before the premier of the MV, in the story they are talking about two separate relationships and going through their own experiences. Or portraying different sides of the same person. I see the story as way more metaphorical than just a simple breakup story, it's more like Taeyeon and Key are comizerating with each other because they understand what each other is going through.
Taeyeon is really close with all the members of SHINee. She has also collaborated with Jonghyun in his song "Lonely" and Taemin's recent song "If I Could Tell You" which is on his Advice album. We're just waiting for her collab with Onew and with Minho when he makes his solo debut.
On a side note: As with everything that SM Entertainment does, it's been designed to all connect. All of SM's groups' concepts and MV storylines connect together and it's all part of one giant Universe and story that started in 2012 with EXO's debut. Everything that SM does is another chapter in their story, like a graphic novel or mystery movie series, and if you want to really follow the full story you have to pay attention to even the most minute of details with everything any of its groups or artists are involved in. So the story never ends.
So, I think that with all the imagery of space in the "Hate That ..." MV, that at least a few scenes, if not the whole MV, also connects in someway to SM's SM Culture Universe larger storyline. I see the space theme not only connected to SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV, but also to their "I Want You" MV from 2018 and Key's "Forever Yours" solo debut MV also from 2018, among several of SM's other groups' MVs. I have a feeling that "Hate That ..." might connect to another part of SM's storyline, either with parts of the story in a past MV, or even things might become more clear in the future as this story connects to upcoming MVs, etc.
As I am always reminding people, when it comes to SM content, if something reminds you of something else or you see similarities between something in one MV to something in another MV, than it was most likely done on purpose. Because pretty much everything SM does is connected, and nothing the company does is random. For example, I see obvious similarities between Taeyeon's red dress and black boots and Key's red outfit and black boots in SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV -- the red is a very specific shade of red -- and the way she is standing on the rock in the middle of the ocean is very similar to the way that Key was standing on the submerged phone booth in "Don't Call Me," which I see as being connected to SM's Universe storyline.
And some have even pointed out that the canister you see break a hole through Key's space capsule and land next to Taeyeon in the water -- which is the same can we see on the table in front of Key when he is sitting in the diner, etc. -- could be a reference to the soda can we see Key holding in SHINee's "Atlantis" MV, etc. (However, I'm not yet sure whether Key brought the can from "Atlantis," or if the can magically appears in his hand in "Atlantis" because it is coming from its original location in "Hate That ...")
So, because of this, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third generation groups' MVs and storylines -- and probably even now their 4th gen groups with the introduction of aespa last year -- are being designed to connect stories and plots.
Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connections between the groups. And that includes SuperM, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa, and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. Even though SHINee are second generation, they actually fit within the age group of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen.
And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything to do with anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. For example, some have pointed to the fact that NingNing's butterfly in aespa's concept from 2020 could be connected to the butterfly in EXO's debut"Mama" MV from 2012, and some have even made compelling arguments that it could even be connected to SHINee's butterfly in "Ring Ding Dong" from 2009. Or the blue roses we see in Taemin's "Press Your Number" MV from 2016 may be connected to EXO's flower/blue rose concept, etc. Now I'm not completely convinced that SM would reach back that far, but it makes you question and consider things. :D I mean, we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's recent "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., who debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his most recent solo MV remake of H.O.T's song "Free to Fly." So it's starting to look like SM may be hinting at bringing everyone into the storyline, including their older groups and artists.
However, you should also know that no one really knows what is happening for sure in SM's Universe storyline. It's all fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed nor denied any of our theories and they have never explained anything. They have left it up to the fans to interpret the story and connect the pieces. And what makes this even more difficult is the story isn't being told in chronological order, so as fans you have to pay attention to everything and remember what you have seen and heard in previous content in order to decide where each piece fits within the larger storyline. And it's not just MVs, but it's with everything they do including teaser videos, concert VCRs (short videos played at concerts in between sets), live performances, song lyrics, online content released by SM, special extras included when you purchase an album, etc. It's super complex and all encompassing.

In Bad love MV it's start when he was watching TV. And he is missable in side. MV goes as different programs on TV while he is changing channels. That's why different costumes, sets are there. He show his anger, disappointment and stress in that. And it end at the same room and same scene as he was watching the TV. I love that concept. I don't know I said clearly 🙄

Bad Love my fav song & album of last year. Key is one of my fav artists because he has a strong sense of taste. He can pull off the 80s synthpop sound without sounding corny or cliché at all. I recommend the performance at 2021sbsgayo :)
