Excellent work. I need to do the same with my 3.2 CL Type S armrest (which is not wrapped in leather). Now I have an idea how to go about it. Thank you for an excellent walkthrough.
Great video! I'm looking at buying an RL with this common problem. Now I feel confident that I can repair it, thanks! Btw, include that dog in ALL your videos, lol.
Dude! Fanbloodytastic, mate! Cheers. p.s. I highly recommend you post the link for this vid in the acurazine forum... many, hence myself included, will find this quite useful...
I travel with my dog a lot and now there’s a rip in my leather armrest that is very noticeable since the leather was ripped off. It only bothers me when I look at it, so I’m just trying to see if I can fix this on my own.
after you got the door off I noticed that you were unscrewing something on the top which confused me I couldn't see how that effected you taking off the arm rest 2:08
I think I definitely took off more screws than I needed to. The wooden handle was connected to my arm rest so I just removed the whole thing instead of unscrewing the wooden handle off. Hope that made sense. :p
Hey, on my 2010 RL, the passenger door pocket housing spring came off from it's spot. Do you think I can remove the pocket housing without taking the door apart?
@@kenji4861 This pocket is in the lower part of the door which opens up. Seems like soft touch vinyl pocket. I couldn't find a way to replace the pocket except removing the door panel as you did or at least prying at the bottom and blindly removing 4 screws from the back side of the pocket. I believe these screws are visible in your video
You want to replace the leather on your seat? I would just slip on a cover or spend $100-300 to get an OEM from someone on eBay. If your car is more common like a Civic / Accord / Camry, you may try your local scrap yard.
That’s not the dog causing that. I have a 2012 TL and it’s doing the same thing on the passenger seat bolster. And my car is garaged always. The issue is quality. Only certain parts of Acura seats are real leather. The rest is made of a leatherette/vinyl material.
I'm trying to repair an armrest on a car, and need to know the best way of leveling it off before applying the new vinyl? Would like for it to be solid, strong, and sturdy. Some of the foam is missing from underneath the crack and it is concaved. What would be a good product to fill this with?
Nice video! Was curious if you sprayed the adhesive over the entire new leather backside or just the portion you folded over like shown in the video. Thanks!
I definitely applied adhesive to the section where your arm rests. I think that part is more important to put on adhesive since your elbow moves it around.
Kenji, the finished photo looks like the stitching is still thee, which looks very nice! How did that happen? I need to do this to my Honda - just curious about the stitching. Thanks for your reply.
There's a price for everything. My goto mechanic near me always charges a $100 diagnostic fee + $125/hour labor (and they round up the hours) + parts. I think the slightly easier, but more costly way is to just buy the entire armrest and swap it out. Can probably do both in 30 mins - hour.
I don't live to far from you I see you driving a lot I have the same car it's 05 RL same problem you think you would be able to do me a solid & help me replace the one on the right front side I could throw you a couple of dollars either way let me know of course it will be done on your time thanks & it would be a learning experience for me as well you seem really good at doing stuff like this.
You really liked synthetic over real leather? I was targeting real leather for longer life but looks are important.. If syntetic looks like the oem stuff than synthetic
Tried both and absolutely preferred the synthetic over real leather. Both looks and feel wise. The factory OEM was definitely not leather. The leather gave it that... real leather look which doesn't fit with the rest of the car. I prefer real leather look on my wallet or portfolio or maybe even apparel, but no thanks inside my relatively modern looking car.
Kenji Yagi maybe if the leather was little finer type would have been better..like the leather on the seats..i guess the leather they sell is the basic type leather and thats why i looks out of place..maybe a nappa leather would look in place
I was learning as I went and was careful so the first side took me 2 hours and the other side took me half the time. If I was doing it over with no distractions and with coffee, I feel I can do both sides in 1.5 hours.
Yes, it really just depends how much your upholstery / dealer will charge you. If they say $200+, I'd just spend half a day doing this. If you're mark zuckerberg, yea definitely just drop it off at the dealership and tell them to deal with it or just buy a new car.
Never heard anyone call a phillips and flat head screwdriver plus and minus.
Finished result looks very nice though, good job.
Same! 🤣 I was like, "why didn't I think of that! That makes more sense!"
That was an awesome video, loved all of the effort and splashes of humor. Perfect, just what I needed!
Excellent work. I need to do the same with my 3.2 CL Type S armrest (which is not wrapped in leather). Now I have an idea how to go about it. Thank you for an excellent walkthrough.
I like how your dog comes to check on you often lol
Your dog looking at you like "whatcha doin?" REPLACING THIS BECAUSE OF YOU!!!
Oh, the things we do for our pets... Looks great, a million thumbs up!!!
Jenna, I KNOW! My car is a hairy mess, but I love the girl.
This is totally beyond my ability...amazing work.
Haven’t seen a video from you. Hope to see one soon. I have an Acura and have the same issue on my car. All the best, Eric
Hello from another fellow Acura owner. Will be working on one soon!
Great video! I'm looking at buying an RL with this common problem. Now I feel confident that I can repair it, thanks! Btw, include that dog in ALL your videos, lol.
An used 2005-2009 RL is a GREAT Value. I'm looking at selling it.. but I can't let go at $4000. Smooth quiet ride.
Broaah thanks a lot 07 acura rl aspec in restoration process this video is true motivation.
You are definitely not a lazy person 👍🏽👍🏽
I've been lazy lately. Would probably just pay someone to do it now :P
Dude, thank you!! I have the same problem in my RL as well. thanks for showing me how 2 get it done. my new project
The new armrest is holding up very well :) Good luck!
hey is the leather still good? I trying to fix mine in my rl also
damn great job I've been wondering about this. wish I could pay you to do this. end results are flawless
Nice job, sir! That looks really good!
Thank you sir!

Acurazine! Such a useful forum. I used to go there very often, but now only go back when I have issues with my car :( Very resourceful group!
@@kenji4861 very much so... Now I'm on audizine
made me feel comfortable to start mine.
Gon-na get-er done in the next couple weeks thanks for the video.
Thanks Dale! It's a fun weekend project :)

You can definitely fix it! My dog still uses the arm rest and these aftermarkets are holding up fine!

Hey mine's half off too! The plastic pocket right? I haven't tried, but I don't think you need to remove the door panel to replace it.

Nice job! I bought replacement leather and was like "how tf does this fit on that" lol
How long it took from star to finish?
If I have to do it over, probably 2-3 hours to do it carefully.
Thanks 😊
Video well done, and a cute dog too.
Thanks Chris! Good luck with your repair :)
Before trying to glue the leathers on read the manual on the glue. You don't need the clips if you use the glue as you should.
Good tip. Thanks Jakub!
thanks for great video can you provide me a link of the LED light , thanks in advanced
I don't remember exactly where I bought it from but I'm guessing eBay or Amazon.
He bro nice job what about the leather from the front seats?

That's really good info. So it wasn't the heat or my baby. I owe her an apology.

Sorry, I can't help you with flattened padding underneath the leather :(
Let us know if you found a good solution. :)

I put the adhesive over everything. I didn't want it to warp.
Nice video, Thanks!
Good job 👏
Hows the leather holding up? I want to fix my rl
It's been 5 years now, it still looks new! Acura's OEM was surprisingly bad. Now my glove box is starting to go.
Quick question, so you just applied adhesive to the sides of the leather and not the top leather section where the arm rest on it?
I definitely applied adhesive to the section where your arm rests. I think that part is more important to put on adhesive since your elbow moves it around.
Good job man
Thanks Tamik!

The leather you buy comes with the stitching on it to make it look like the original :) . Good luck from a fellow Honda/Acura owner!
Curious how the synthetic held up over time from doggie paws.
It's been 5 years, still looks new
tHANKS BRO!! nEEDED THAT!!
BRO WASH
BRO WASH!
Great video, Great dog!!!
Haha, thanks Ernie! She is a great dog! :)

Fellow Bay Arean? Sorry mike, I'm not 100% comfortable handling someone else's expensive car, but nice to meet you.
Did your arm rest covers already have the cutouts? I ordered from amazon and mine do not...
Michael Coburn mine already had the cut outs. They were small so I had to cut a bit more though
Gotcha, great video! I just reupholstered my glove box and am tackling these as soon as I figure out the holes. The glove box was a nightmare...

Thanks Mr. Proulx!
Did you allow your dog back in your car again afterwards? Lol Also did you end up doing both sides? I'd imagine the color doesn't match exactly.
Yes, both sides are done. The center storage area too and yes, she's allowed in the car anytime!
Tell your dog you going to put him in the trunk if he keeps messing up the armrest.
😭
Too much.

That's alot to replace an armrest, chances are of you fucking something up is very high, I'll just drive with fucked up armrest 😏
It is, but people noticed it every time they sat in my car.... it had to go. One day project. That's with learning as you go.
cool dog
Cool cat in your profile pic :)
Ooph... too much work
Thankyou!
You're welcome! Good luck to you and your project
