    I replayed this several times. Each time I just closed my eyes and let Michael’s amazing playing carry me away to another beautiful place musically. In my humble opinion, he is one of the greatest guitar players ever. He and the Jazzmaster were destined for each other.

    Nothing sounds like a JM. You can dial a Strat to sound close but it is its own thing. And you can hear it clearly. Of course Michael Lemmo can get more out of them than just about anyone. In a just world, Fender should one day make a Michael Lemmo signature Jazzmaster.

    • @joermnyc
      @joermnyc Год назад

      Fender still gives these some love, their new pickups with alternative magnet materials (Cobalt and CuNiFe) include 2 sets for the Jazzmaster, including wide-range humbuckers. (Fender had Lemmo demo them in their video on the designs too!)

    • @3rdStoreyChemist
      @3rdStoreyChemist Год назад

      The main issue with these pickups is the lack of output, but this seems a common issue with modern Fenders, the Pro2 Telecaster pickups are pretty weak as well.
      It’s just a different tone to a typical Jazzmaster, between Strats/Teles and humbuckers. Get past that and it’s a great sounding guitar probably more in line with what people who have never played or heard a stock Jazzmaster would expect one to sound.

    • @joermnyc
      @joermnyc Год назад

      @@3rdStoreyChemist under the covers the look like flat p90s, but the winding doesn’t go all the way to the edge of the bobbin and of course the slugs are the magnets. G&L solved this with their Doheny (MFD pickups are more like p90s with hex screw pole pieces and a bar magnet underneath, but they are also thicker than Fender pickups because of this).

    I guess a maple board Jazzmaster is rare because of Fender’s initial idea for the Jazzmaster to appeal to Jazz guitarists, and a maple board was too “rock and roll”.

    Jazzmasters are great and unique instruments but it always struck me as odd that they were never embraced by jazz players. Those guys always seem to play hollow body or semi hollow bodies. If they ever have a solid body it always seems to be a Tele. I read that Joe Pass played one for a short time but went back to playing hollow bodies. So although the name doesn't fit them they are still very cool instruments. I think they never achieved the popularity of the Strat just because Strats were such incredible instruments that it wasn't possible to top them.

    I have one of these, great to see it on the show getting a proper demo. I love the feel of the neck, the unique switching, and just its general look (the blue is great in person). Not as much of a fan of the pickups, they don't sound horrible as far as the noiseless sets go, but it's clear that they're only Jazzmasterish, not a true set of JM pickups. They're dark and warm, and sound good driven, but they sound more like a thick Tele than a proper JM. I was hoping to get that jangly surf kind of sound, but they don't quite deliver. I did end up putting some flatwounds on it, and I think that sound fits the pickups better

    • @veithkilbert4253
      @veithkilbert4253 Год назад

      Great comment, yeah the pickups are quite hot, but they still have the Fender pluck. But yeah ,if you want the brighter jangle, this not the one, but I love the sound and great overdrive lead tones
