Budapest Philhormonic Orchestra conducted by Tomomi Nishimoto 西本智実.
The Capriccio was inspired by a trip Tchaikovsky took to Rome with his brother Modest as respite from the composer's disastrous marriage with Antonina Miliukova. It was in Rome, however, that the observant Tchaikovsky called Raphael a "Mozart of painting."
While in Rome, he wrote to his friend Nadezhda von Meck:
I have completed the sketches for an Italian fantasia on folk tunes for which I believe a good fortune may be predicted. It will be effective, thanks to the delightful tunes which I have succeeded in assembling partly from anthologies, partly from my own ears in the streets.

Tomomi Nishimoto’s understanding of Tchaikovsky’s works is uniquely broad, encompassing both their intrinsic value and the emotional distance they evoke. This understanding naturally influences the conductor’s interpretation during performances. The alignment between their comprehension of the work and their expressive execution creates a harmonious unity. However, what distinguishes this conductor is their unwavering artistic sensibility. This consistency extends beyond mere alignment; it integrates layers of nuance akin to the complexity found in theater and other art forms. When listening to this conductor’s interpretation, the measure of its value lies in the seamless connection between the music and the performance. Absolutely, defining a precise standard for this value remains elusive. The act of performance itself is perilous, fraught with potential discrepancies. Yet, it serves as a poignant reminder that artistic expression thrives on decisive risks.

So accustomed to the slower Bernstein interpretation, this is almost a different piece of music. Well done.

Bild und Ton sind phasenweise wieder furchtbar schlecht synchronisiert, vor allem bei den Einstellungen mit der Dirigentin um 1/2 Takt. Das macht es schwierig, das Dirigat zu studieren.
