Haydn is the father of the symphony. His music is amazing in harmony, grace and elegance. Viva Haydn a true genius of music that gives us unforgettable moments of pleasure and haunting music. Bravissimo.

Thank you RUclips for finally allowing us to listen to the entirety of Joseph HAYDN's symphonies. In the 2000s, harmonia mundi offered a box set of CDs tracing the history of music (2000 years of music) and on which was an excerpt from Haydn that I can not find. If anyone has this box, please give me the reference.

      DerpyMcDerpell
This symphony has all the characteristics of a more modern early Classical symphony.
‘Le Midi’ and its two partners ‘Le Matin’, and ‘Le Soir’ have left behind them almost all the old baroque formulas which by 1761 (the year that this triptych that is Symphonies 6, 7, and 8 were written) were considered old-fashioned.
The orchestration and shape of the melodic lines are all clearly ‘Classical’, as is the new four movement symphonic form.
Some commentators do feel that the soloistic passages are reminiscent of the old concerto grosso; Haydn in fact added such soloistic passages in his symphonies throughout his career, right up to his final works written in London in the 1790’s.
None of Haydn’s symphonies with solo parts - which are many and varied across his entire career - are concerti grossi, and neither are they sinfonie concertanti, both labels that are rather too frequently mis-applied to works like Symphony 7.
This famous trilogy represent the earliest, most programmed symphonies in the entire repertoire - and as such, they are Classical.
