@@jhrogers86 The biggest sin of Apocalypse was making the main character of the game a side character among a group of OCs in the movie. The second biggest sin was changing the origin of Nemesis and removing most of the unique monsters like the worms, spiders, hunters, etc. Granted, I understand that they probably didn't have the budget or screen time for all of the RE3 monsters, but if they cut out some of the ancillary characters who didn't add anything to the story, like the street hustler and the reporter, and reworked a couple of scenes like using the gravedigger and sliding worms in the graveyard scene instead of zombies popping out of their graves like necrotic Jack in the Boxes, it would have been a slightly more faithful and satisfying movie.
As it is, it's ... serviceable as a fan fiction but it's not a great REpresentation of the game. And no, that wasn't a typo.

I have a weird taste with these movies. I don't look at them as Resident Evil, but just an action horror movie franchise, but definitely in a guilty pleasure way. That being said, I think the 3rd one, Extinction, is my personal favorite just because it's Mad Max meets Day of the Dead, with a sparkle of X-Men. I mean, come on, it's so out there, over the top and stupid that I can't help but love how serious it takes itself. The first one is cool and ok at best, the second and fourth are entertaining too, but the 5th and 6th are complete trash

    • @Dargonhuman
      @Dargonhuman 4 года назад +10

If you ignore the fact that it's supposed to be Resident Evil, the third one is a decent post-apocalypse zombie action flick. It's about as close to Resident Evil as World War Z was to the book, which is to say, nothing alike, but as a standalone movie it hits all the right notes. Just watch Extinction and pretend the characters aren't supposed to be the ones from the games...
Everything afterward is utter trash though and even as zombie movies go, are awful.

honestly I loved all the movies. The first one's the best! I am huge fan of the games. when I was younger I played resident evil 2 over and over and over. It's still my favorite game to this day. I even read all the books and I have the animation movies too. when I heard about the movie coming out I was excited. I understood it was going to be different and I already accepted it. So when the movie was released I went in not expecting it to be like the game. I separate the games and the movies from each other. I don't see them as the same thing. just characters of the same story in different realities. I can appreciate both. obviously as the movies went on they got more ridiculous I can even agree. But they're my guilty pleasures and I do enjoy them even if they're bad. Just as I love the games I love the movies and the books.

I'll admit that this movie was a bit disappointing for me. Aside from Umbrella being named as the corporation involved and that Licker, there really isn't anything here that screams Resident Evil. It feels like a generic zombie movie with a handful of elements thrown in so they could slap a recognizable brand name on it. And yes the “shitkickers” (UBCS) & Laser Hallway fit. The other elements of RE you neglect to mention is it’s blend of old school atmospheric horror with modern techno thriller, & action. The techno thriller elements have been there since the beginning. Meanwhile the action has been there since the start and ramping up with each sequel, even before the first movie... to the point where they had become action packed complete with over the top set pieces & cutscenes by the time this came out.

No time spent in the mansion, no jill, no chris, no whesker, no barry, little to no back ground of story, it has made up characters just so Paul Anderson could film his hot wife in slow motion... I shall continue.... 11-12 minutes of zombies, the dogs look like shit, lickers where from the second game not the first, no hunters, no tyrant, no mention of lisa trevor, no mention of spencer, over the top sci puzzles that make no sense and dont fit inside the movie, no shark zombies, no plant zombies. A terrible bombastic techno metal soundtrack suited to an action movie NOT a horror movie. A terrible script, terrible acting, poor characters who I couldnt care less about, dull atmosphere with some of the worst lighting ive ever seen in a movie.

CPC_RedDawn are you? You literally just said remove the key elements and it would be like any other zombie apocalypse movie. Funny you should mention that, but The same can be said of the games. Remove Umbrella, T-Virus, and Racoon City and it could be any other survival horror game. You may not like it, but The fact that it doesn’t have Jill Chris and Company IS irrelevant. It’s following a different set of characters, but the end result is still pretty much the same... and it still retains iconic elements of the series... zombies, it’s blend of atmospheric horror techno thriller & action, racoon city, the mansion, the super high tech lab hidden beneath the city, the t-virus, bioweapons, and even the goddamn super contrived lethal traps. You may not realize this, but the first movie, unlike the rest of the movies, was written as a goddamn SIDE STORY to show how the outbreak started... even BEFORE the whole Birkin incident. It wasn’t till the second movies where it started to go off rails in terms of the continuity... and the third movie is where it completely jumped the track (and shark) with it’s gloriously absurd premise... mad max with zombies.

All the minor cuts and bruises on Milla Jovovich's character are real. No make-up was applied.
Milla Jovovich said the real reason she did this movie was because her brother Marko was a huge fan of the video games.
The presidents of Capcom Japan and America have cameos as zombies. Capcom created the Resident Evil series.
The main actors were told to prepare for the film by getting copies of the games and playing them through. Some of them didn't know if they could complete them in time so they had to get video copies of other people beating the games and then watch it.
(at around 1h 30 mins) There is a shot of Alice's eye close up near the end of the film. This is a direct reference to the first game in the series
Milla Jovovich's character's name, Alice, is only revealed during the credits.
(at around 11 mins) The wedding picture of Alice and Spencer looks similar to the pictures from Resident Evil (1996) and Resident Evil 2 (1998) (with the subjects up close and spliced onto the background image, and always in black and white).
Even though they're everywhere, the word "zombie" is never spoken in this film.
(at around 1h 27 mins) Near the end, when the underground tram pulls back to the Mansion station, the serial number on the front of the lead car reads "ALEXIA" followed by a string of digits. Alexia Ashford is the final antagonist of Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Also, Underground Trams are a recurring mode of transportation in the Resident Evil games.
In the movie, Alice's fake husband is named Spence. This is a reference to the first game which took place in a mansion named the Spencer Estate. Also, one of the three founders of Umbrella Corporation in the game series is named Ozwell Spencer.
The makeup department and crew had a hard time dealing with the dogs, who kept licking the zombie makeup, blood and meat off of themselves.
The studio, Sony Pictures, had hoped at one time to make the film PG-13 so as to make the film more marketable to the younger video game fans, but director Paul W.S Anderson insisted that to be true to the game, the film must be rated R.
Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson, who met on the set of "Resident Evil", were married on 22nd August 2009 and (as of January 2019) have two children.
Like in the games, after something is switched on/off, something else happens elsewhere. When the Red Queen is deactivated for the first time, all doors elsewhere are opened.

I watched 1-5 in 2012( I was eleven) and loved them, I didn't know about the games' existence. Until the sixth movie, I had completely changed my mind and enjoyed the final movie for the absolute Trainwreck that it was. The first movie is still kinda good though, especially that soundtrack

Love the shoutout for Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead remake. 👍🏻 That’s such an under appreciated film.

Going off about bad movies is a lot of times more entertaining to watch than praising good ones. They are definitely "guilty pleasure" movies for me, likely for others as well. Kind of like the "Fast & Furious" franchise, the RE films get more silly and convoluted with each subsequent release, so I think it would be fun to review them and they could make for some truly interesting content. There's also not much RE material left to cover, unfortunately... Unless you want to cover the S.D. Perry novels, lol.

Sweet I didn't even think you were going to do these movies.
