This song has always touched me deeply, about 10 years ago I met a girl of Japanese descent on school, she was always very lonely, she never spoke to anyone and almost always did not participate in school groups, I took the courage to talk to her, and she told me that was never one to talk to a lot of people and she suffered a lot of pressure from her parents, since then I've been more present in her life, had lunch together, talked and I always included her in my groups if possible, despite some discussions ( like all good friendships), I always liked her shy way, when she face some problem, and wanted my help, instead of touching my shoulder or calling my name, she would look at me for a very long time until I notice her, our friendship was always the reason she never wanted to change school, the same with me, we cared about each other, but... When we went to college, like any relationship, we started to distance ourselves, she got her own group of friends, and so did I, we followed our lives naturally... It's been about 5 years since I've seen her, i miss her so much, it reminded me of the time I told her when i was little, that we would always be friends, even if i never see her again, I'm glad I caused an impact on her life, and she on mine... I hope we can meet again, someday.

An AMAZING gallery of wartime images to accompany such a heartfelt song, by the incomparable Vera Lynn. Beautifully done! My mum Winifred was a codebreaker at Bletchley Park, 1943-45, and my father Tadeusz fought at Monte Cassino, May 1944 (and many other battles).
In memory of my great great grandpa “BigDaddy” I know I know. First aero squadron. Edit: Sorry wrong person he served in WW1 my great grandpa fought in WW2 he was an engineer. Died from peeking his head to high looking at the bridge he built. Damn bullet ruined my family for two generations.
A fun little fact; the background chorus is officially credited on the original recording as "Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen of Her Majesty's Forces." Makes this version all the more poignant.
This song really makes me tear up. At the beginning of the school year I made a wonderful friend and she was always happy and would brighten my days. I'd look forward to seeing her in class and she was also my wing woman. When I got friendzoned by my crush she was there to help me when I was down and she cured my sadness. She has a boyfriend and they have an amazing relationship and I started to notice that I should back off from face timing and texting her because I would hate to get attached to a girl that's in a relationship. I would never want to affect a relationship especially when it's been going on for a while now. She's been a great friend and is switching out of my class because the teacher is too harsh on her. As long as she's happy right? There's an odd sadness I have that I won't see her next semester but it's for the better. So this song is what I dedicate to her. For me to take my distance away from her and her leaving my class. Sometimes good people will come into your life just to teach you how to let go. Farewell to the girl I couldn't love.
I think that is a pretty interesting story and the way you handled it too, and I hope that even if you won't be seeing your friend now you will see her soon Also in the end I think you simply loved her like a best friend or a sister, especially with what you talked about with her boyfriend and what not
this makes me cry. The British fought valiantly against the Germans and without them we would have never won the war. Love from America. (Edit: my god this is such a shitstorm now. Blessings to Britain from the United States. Our struggles, triumphs and even anxieties have been one from the very beginning, always seeking to carve or places in the world and to stand down the would be tyrants of fascist and communist Europe; thank you, Britons, for all you've given to your friends and children across the pond: your will to write, your rugged stability against the rest of the world and your example in law. Even now in these controversial times, first with the uncertainly around populist resurgence and now bearing a great bulk of the virus, Anglophone citizens can still extend arms of comfort to those who may be afraid in any realm where our brethren feel threatened by governmental delays.
@@xunqianbaidu6917 British is more the general culture , it’s more a geographical term if you look at it literally It’s like how someone can be a Texan , but also is American With both American and British being more of a broad term of different cultures that all join together for one big and kind of complex group British and American are quite unique if you think of the different cultures Though for example countries like China and Russia also have this IE You can be Tibetan , but also Chinese , however that doesn’t really work as well / the same since Tibetan and Chinese are already 2 different distinct cultures that don’t really get along to well , with Chinese already bean a large group of similar cultures already
Such a beautiful song. Remember that most soldiers where just like me and you, ordinary people who where forced to defend there homelands. Respect to all men and woman who fought not by force but by duty.
imagine in the future when wwii will be a distant and hard to picture thing, like the 18th century is to us. imagine people from the future finding this video, how weird and creepy would it be to them? maybe nostalgic even? imagine finding footage of thousands of young men about to fight in a war that took place 200 years ago, with a woman from 1700 singing so passionately about the struggles of that time, wouldn't that just shook you completely? i hope humanity survives long enough to look back at events like the ones we're living now with that kind of unsettling confusion
Even though he didn't die in combat nor he fight in combat. My Great Grandad was Spotlight Operator in the Battle of Britain and every time they used to hide in this tent if they were getting bombed. That's all I know about him sadly. Bless the People who fought in any battle that gave their life to their country.
The song makes me feel a way. The men speaking makes me think of them as all of the soldiers we have lost in wars. She performing for them in heaven. Hoping them the best.
My great grandfather fought in ww2 as a squadron leader in the RAF. He got captured and made friends with a captain from Australia. They escaped together got caught again and as a punishment they released German Shepherds after the Australian captain. In the words he quoted " Run. Run and don't look back. " My great grandfather was forced to watch it happen. He watched his mate of 2 years get torn to shreds by dogs. He didn't sleep properly for around a year and was often found screaming up against a wall when remembering the sighting. I often think about that and the Captains family and if they found out what happened to him as he was only in his early 20's. May he rest in peace. My great grandfather would never speak about this. He only said it once. When he was trapped in Greece any soldier's who they could not help they would lay underneath the olive Garden trees and let the planes bomb over the gardens. ( With their knowledge of what was about to happen of course. ) He hid his gun and coat from the enemy under an olive tree. They probably have been found but it would be a treasure to find them. May everyone who died for us Rest In Peace. And everyone who came back without their friends and family members along side them find peace. This song gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. It gave soldiers hope. 🇬🇧
Just got the news that the queen has died. My heart goes to her family and friends. God bless the queen! 🇬🇧 It’s been a glorious 70 years your majesty.
She didn’t know, at that point, that just a decade later she would become Queen of the United Kingdom, and that her country's empire would collapse following this war.

Though my nation has done some terrible things, I have a great deal of pride in our choices in WWII to stand against true evil (not every soldier was evil of course, the leadership), and I feel like every country learned a lesson from the war. A very young Queen Elizabeth rolled up her sleeves to become a mechanic repairing truck motors. The war ravaged her country yet she fearlessly worked alongside her people giving them hope to never give up. For that, she is a great Queen. God bless Queen Elizabeth Regina of the House of Windsor.
My great grandad, despite being American, thought quite highly of the British when he was in Burma with the 2nd Infantry, and looked upon them as his own family rather than complete strangers. I never got to met the man, but I bet he was great. Funnily enough, he died a few days after the Chicago White Sox won the 2005 World Series almost as if that was his dying wish. I hope this friendship between us shall last forever, whether it be during peace or war, my friends across the pond, we’ll meet again. Someday, someday. *In loving memory of Walter Carlson Sr. (1921-2005)* 🇬🇧❤🇺🇸
My great grandparents had an interesting story. Apparently, my great grandfather was an american soldier, specifically a radio operator. In case you didn't know, those guys with the radios almost always died, as the bulky radios slowed them down AND revealed their positions. The fact that he survived despite the circumstances is truly insane. He didn't only survive though, as he was in Germany at some point and met my German great grandmother who he later married and had my grandparents with. They came back to America after the war and lived long enough to see my grandparents have my dad and aunt, but unfortunately never got to see me and I never got to see them. From what my parents have told me, they were really great people so I'm a bit disappointed I never got to meet them. I hope one day I will finally talk to them.
So .. I know it's very off-topic but for once I can listen to this beautiful song for a "serious" reason, maybe .. Put simply, I am a simple 14 year old Italian, with few expectations for the future and many worries for the latter, today I will see the class that has been close to me and that I have adored for 11 very long years for the last time for the last eighth grade exam .. This little comment (Written with the translator because my English sucks as usual) for it is like a certificate, a certificate for the me of the future. While listening to this song my worries, my various problems in the shadows disappeared for a few minutes, for a few minutes I was able to get rid of the worries of the future, to leave my beloved class, to change school, to change my life but above all of the future . For this I say that it is a certificate for the me of the future: I know well that sooner or later I will return to this comment section and I also know that I will probably forget about this comment, but I know that in the future sooner or later I will re-cover this beautiful music, and perhaps I will find this comment again in another period of "crisis" as is that of exams, of the future and of a loss. I want to dedicate this song to my friends in the class, I know that no one will really be interested in my "stress release" comment, but I don't care .. it's a certificate for me right? anyway, I said that I dedicate this song to my friends in the class, I know that "we meet again" sometime or sooner or later, but I know it will happen. At least I hope so. Greetings, a fourteen year old worried about the future. Best wishes to myself, from the past, present and future. and also to you, who have read my comment, congratulations you have received a small quote in return: Worry about the future, but enjoy the present and remember the past with a smile. Thank you for reading my little comment.
May Dame Vera Lynn rest in peace. 🇬🇧❤️

For example, not sure how it is usually but you often wouldn't see children drinking coffee but it wouldn't be that surprising to see a child drinking tea -- or in the UK, usually the classic black tea with milk.

Solid story. I know it's unlikely someone else will read this but just know you made me feel something from reading this.
you opened my eyes in that ending, thank you
Keep your head up king
I think that is a pretty interesting story and the way you handled it too, and I hope that even if you won't be seeing your friend now you will see her soon
Also in the end I think you simply loved her like a best friend or a sister, especially with what you talked about with her boyfriend and what not
Dear consoldence

British is more the general culture , it’s more a geographical term if you look at it literally
It’s like how someone can be a Texan , but also is American
With both American and British being more of a broad term of different cultures that all join together for one big and kind of complex group
British and American are quite unique if you think of the different cultures
Though for example countries like China and Russia also have this IE
You can be Tibetan , but also Chinese , however that doesn’t really work as well / the same since Tibetan and Chinese are already 2 different distinct cultures that don’t really get along to well , with Chinese already bean a large group of similar cultures already
I may not be British but I'm welsn Scottish and Irish so kinda

imagine in the future when wwii will be a distant and hard to picture thing, like the 18th century is to us. imagine people from the future finding this video, how weird and creepy would it be to them? maybe nostalgic even? imagine finding footage of thousands of young men about to fight in a war that took place 200 years ago, with a woman from 1700 singing so passionately about the struggles of that time, wouldn't that just shook you completely? i hope humanity survives long enough to look back at events like the ones we're living now with that kind of unsettling confusion
Events like this should never be forgotten in history. If that happens, Its like they say. "History repeats itself"

That's all I know about him sadly. Bless the People who fought in any battle that gave their life to their country.
Rest in peace Vera Lynn...you were the best symbol of hope
( With their knowledge of what was about to happen of course. )
He hid his gun and coat from the enemy under an olive tree. They probably have been found but it would be a treasure to find them.
May everyone who died for us Rest In Peace.
And everyone who came back without their friends and family members along side them find peace.
This song gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. It gave soldiers hope.

For this I say that it is a certificate for the me of the future:
I know well that sooner or later I will return to this comment section and I also know that I will probably forget about this comment, but I know that in the future sooner or later I will re-cover this beautiful music, and perhaps I will find this comment again in another period of "crisis" as is that of exams, of the future and of a loss.
