Question: Why is it energy of the P-orbital is more than s-orbital for Antibonding state. Shouldn't it be reverse, as S-orbital is having more repulsion, hence, its Antibonding will be at top.. ??
Well when you talk about anti bonding it's always metal perspective so for metal d>S>P stability and we talk about bonding we take ligand side S>p>d stability because p-antibonding is least stable it's energy is higher
@@abidafatmi4095 sure, as the t1g is bonding the involved p orbitals have to have the same phase or in-phase (otherwise it would form an antibonding Molecular Orbital there). So, the p orbitals are in phase this constitutes a Gerade symmetry. [out of phase p orbitals constitute UnGerade symmetry].
