I’ve been a Nurse for 12 years/ & I am so grateful that I pursued cosmetology and lashing in my spare time! Stress should NEVER BE A “normal” PART OF LIFE, because stress is not normal. I’m transitioning out of Nursing because of the politics, over 12 years I’ve witnessed management with business degrees that run facilities as a BUSINESS without patient care in mind. Nurses get treated like shit for putting their lives on the line. Especially after working a Covid Unit and having a coworker pass away from COVID 19, I realized- that our lives are seen as disposable. We are thrown to the wolves everyday, because it is EXPECTED of us. We are not allowed to be human, get sick, miss our families- as long as we make these hospitals money/ that’s all they care about. There’s no money in the cure, the money is in pushing pills & keeping people sick. Until this country changes its ethics in healthcare/ there will always be a shortage. I’m so relieved to finally step away from this and move on, I’ve given 12 years of my life- and I refuse to give anymore. Thank you for this video.💯🙏🏼♥️
Hey A, omg this resonated with me so much. You totally get it. Hospitals are first and foremost a BUSINESS and their primary objective is making money, therefore cutting expenses, therefore affecting the quality of lives of not only patients, but US, as nurses >< Argh we are just pill pushers, if it doesn't work, give them another pill, it's so sad. I commend you on 12 years of being in nursing, I'm sure you've been through a lot. Nursing can be quite traumatizing, we see things that the public does not. I'm wishing you ALL THE BEST in cosmetology and lashing. You definitely made some smart moves and now you can give up nursing - super excited for you! Thank you for watching my video, sending love! ❤️
I'm leaving nursing also! So happy to find someone else in a similar situation. I'm going into fitness, but still.. people think I'm crazy.. nursing is good money, you'll aways have a job.. okay cool, but what ABOUT HAPPINESS!?!?!?!
In the area I live I don't earn enough moneyas an LPN to rent an apartment because the cost of living in enormously high. I rented a room from someone I found on Craigslist and it didn't work out. It was the worst environment living with strangers. I moved happily moved out last month.
@Elianor Anouk : nursing school taught me how to pass a test. Very horrible experience. Dealt with horrible professors and getting into the profession made it worse
@Elianor Anouk it’s the freedom to do whatever the heck you want without giving care what anyone else thinks 😉 This is life is too short do as you please
Nursing sucks. TMI but my period literally stopped for the first 3 months my first nursing job due to the stress. There's a lot of abuse from patients, other nurses, and doctors. The environment is absolutely toxic.
>.< arghh I'm so sorry that happened! That is so telling.. our bodies aren't made to be worked like drones and nor should we have to take everyone's shit!
tell me about it. it's disheartening. why create a negative atmosphere when the common goal of everyone on the team is to help patients improve their condition and quality of life?
Hospitals are going to find themselves desperate for nurses because so many are getting out of the field. Older nurses are retiring and new grads coming in are like "screw this". More and more people are going back to school. They'll have to bring the pay up to get people to stay but honestly the pay may not be worth all of that stress in the long run.
It's not impossible; hospitals just make it that way with the short staff and bullshit. Most nurses wouldn't quit if they treated us the right way and put safety and healing first.
@@Kidblinks Exactly! It doesn't have to be this way. Nursing can be a very enjoyable career. It's the broken system and greed that fosters shitty work conditions and impossible expectations; and unfortunately this is too commonplace.
this is exactly what I am doing! Been a nurse since 2015, a traveler since 2019 and graduating NP school this May and opening up my practice by the fall. Entrepreneurship is the best way!
I've been a nurse for almost 2 years. Quit a month ago and my husband tells me I'm a whole new person. I didn't realize how bad of a mental place I was in until I had space and time to actually breath and reflect.
I’ve been a bedside RN for 26 years. I have hated almost everyday. I just can’t figure out what I want to do when I grow up. Going to hit 59 next month.
I've been a RN in a hospital for 5 years and I'm quitting to open a coffee shop with my partner. I'm a little scared that it won't be a success, but we love coffee and have the opportunity to do it. Every single day of nursing is so noisy, crazy, chaotic and overwhelming. It really is too much and doesn't work for me. I'm generally a happy go lucky person, but nursing just comes at me too hard and fast for me to maintain my good attitude. I'm glad to hear from other nurses that this isn't just my imagination. Peace to everyone!
So coolll!!! A coffee shop owner is very different pace than a nurse, so I'm so happy for you! You and your partner will figure things out as you go. Success takes time and patience, but I have faith in you! Good luck :)
Hey JZ! There’s a small place in Arlington that I love called Salter Bros Coffee Co, they do their own recipes and roast their own coffee beans. I believe they make most of their money off of the bags of coffee they sell. If they can do it so can you 💪
I finished nursing school a few years ago and realized it wasn’t for me. I witnessed a lot of stuff on my clinical rotations as well. Unsafe patient to nurse ratios as well as a doctor commuting an error and leaving the nurse and me as a student with a coding patient. I decided to open my own pet sitting business. It is also a lot of hours unfortunately. But at least I’m working with animals and I’m my own boss. It’s nice to hear stories of people choosing a career after nursing. I felt guilty for many years after for letting people down and not working as a nurse.
@@elizabethj2111 don't feel guilty, your long term health will suffer if you force yourself to be around something that you don't want to do. Animals take the stress away. I am studying to be a dog trainer now and don't regret it. Infact, I'm looking forward to it.
I'm so happy for you! I've been wanting to leave nursing since a patient attacked me and broke my nose..when I talked about it with other nurses I was discouraged and honestly shamed for my feelings. It's so refreshing to hear that someone else felt the same way about nursing and had the courage to make a change! I cried watching this video because I miss being happy and excited to wake up in the morning. You have truly inspired me to make some real changes. Thank you!!!
Omgosh Nina, I'm appalled that people would shame you for your feelings (especially after something so traumatizing! I would have totally understood why you'd wanna leave after that). Don't let others dictate what you can and cannot do in your life because you are the captain of your ship! I'm so glad you were so moved by this video, and as you can see from all the comments on this vid, you are not alone. I truly believe you will find the happiness you deserve. You may not have courage right away, but you can build it up! I believe in you. Good luck girl 😍🙌🏼
Oh no! I’m so sorry that you went through that. The fact that your coworkers shamed you for your VERY valid sentiments, is appalling! I’d want to quit after that too
Appreciate this! Im in my last semester of nursing school but my parents forced me into this major. I never wanted to do this and its only becoming more prevalent. Planning on studying computer science and switching into software engineering because nursing is nottttt for meeee
As an RPN I feel this. Right from nursing school I instantly regretted it. I kept going and my chronic pains started. Feeling suicidal so I started taking citalopram. I had a panic attack when COVID first hit because my management didn’t want to give me the proper PPE. I see a major difference in myself when I do not work. I am now a part time ESL teacher hoping to be full time soon. Thank you for this video.
I'm so sorry to hear how rough it was for you :( and SO inspired by your story and courage to do something about it. Hoping full-time is in the works for you soon!
This video is absolutely 100 % true, that's why i quit nursing too and i did not regret at all, it don't make sense to stress yourself for life, being unhappy, sacrificing health and family which is the most important thing specially at this times, and by the way there is a lot of better opportunity up there, way more rewarding with less stress if your looking for one. Good luck colleagues!
No regrets!! 🙌🏼 I love hearing that. Yes, I completely agree, it's better to love what you do and be less stressed. Stress kills >< Best wishes for 2021.
I’m going the other way around. I’ve been in the corporate fashion industry all my life and decided to go into lashing, took classes, got my certificate and started working as a lash artist and I hated it. Decided to become a nurse to hopefully one day become an esthetic nurse. Definitely agree follow your dreams, try different things until you find what makes you happy.
honestly I'm in nursing school and have such a love for entrepreneurship. I took a lash course and I absolutely loved it and I want to lash full time while I build my boutique brand. I have so many ideas and I'm struggling between wanting to stop school and focus on that dream. I know they say school is everything but for me my dreams and passions aren't to be a nurse, I love what nurses do for us but the amount of stress and depression that follows the career can be something that people may not be prepared for. I don't want to work for someone as well. The burnout with school as it is, is so difficult and I feel like I'm literally going to blow into smokes. Everytime I think of leaving the program to focus on myself and my business I get a sense of relief. I know I'm still young (20) and have so many options from parents and relatives and I know they wouldn't understand now but this year I'm really pushing myself to take that leap of faith and do it.
Thank you for this. I myself am heavily thinking about leaving the nursing profession after 2 years. I’ve had two jobs thus far. I’ve dealt with so much anxiety and stress. I worked med surg nights my first year. Those night shifts are so rough and make me feel so out of wack with my sleep. Plus we were always understaffed. I’d have a mini panic attack before every shift. Day shift is too much of a zoo on the floors so I didn’t even wanna try. I went into OR for my second job, but was dealing with too much judgment and negativity. I’m a quiet type and I guess that rubs people the wrong way (I had this issue with my first job as well). Currently I’m unemployed and thinking of where to go next. I know people often say the first year is the hardest and it doesn’t mean nursing isn’t for you, but after year 2 it hasn’t gotten any better. I’ve honestly become so jaded and am realizing how unhappy I have been. This isn’t how I want it to be tho. I want to enjoy my job and be happy with what I do. And lately I have been thinking about the flexibility of being your own boss and how much I would enjoy that. I look forward to finding what’s right for me.💛
I’m in week 11 of my 12 week orientation of my very first RN job (in the ER). I think it’s awful. I’m experiencing depression and anxiety, I’m overwhelmed, I’ve had to stop myself from having breakdowns while in the room with patients. I just feel like I bit off way more than I could chew working in the ER. Everyone says that the way I feel is normal and it gets better after the first year or two, but I cannot see myself going on like this for a year or two. I do want to continue with my nursing career, but not in a hospital and not with acutely ill patients. I hope you find something that makes you happy!!! ❤️
I’m almost done getting my LVN and I’m already feeling burnt out. Every time I go to clinical rotations all the classmates are is toxic and even at clincal site none of the nurses want students. Sigh 😐
I love your story! I graduated this May with my Bachelors in Psychology and had plans of going into the health field. First I planned on going to OT school, then Dental hygiene, THEN nursing school I just couldn’t make up my mind and felt so stuck and depressed that I didn’t know what to do. However, beauty has always been my first love. I’ve been getting my lashes done for 2years and my lash tech inspired me to take a course and become my own boss! I took my class in July and I’m now certified and it was my best investment! I love everything about lashing! I’m hoping in the next 2-3 years I can open up my own salon/studio for myself.
DANGGGGGGGG I love hearing your story 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 this is what it’s all about. I wish I had the foresight to start a lash business sooner so kudos to you. If you stay focused and work hard, your dream is possible. So happy for you. What’s your IG handle? I’d love to follow you :)
Kadaay- you made a very wise decision to not pursue Occupational Therapy. I have 3 degrees in Occupational Therapy and I'm disgusted...absolutely disgusted 😒😑😤 feeling so bamboozled girl!! I plan to upload a video talking about my experience. This week I reached out to accelerated BSN-DNP program, and I just got off the phone with 3 schools...and this sinking feeling sat in and I think I am realizing I may just end up in the same boat.. sadly😥 So baby gurl you made a awesome decision
@@thelysleung Thank you for spending the time to share with us. You have no idea what your video means to many of us. Thank you my beauty 😘💗💕💓💛 Signed Lost in OT & trying to escape, send help!
NIKKI STAHR i was thinking of seitching from nursing program to oc, i saw they were less stressed out then nurses during my clinicals😫😫 but i absolutely cant afford to go from fire to the fry pan, i would love to know about your exp
As a medsurg tech I can say the same. After 6 months on the floor I’m changing careers. If you want to be a nurse but you’re not sure if you’ll like it become a tech at a hospital....
Same. Been doing CNA for 4 years. Throughout those 4 years, been on and off with taking prerequisite, was in nursing school, & withdrew. It’s like I kept forcing it but it’s genuinely not for me. I get depressed every time I come to work. In the process of switching careers.
To go to grad school. When I first graduated I thought I might enjoy getting a real income for a few years before putting myself through more school and debt Nope I can't deal, get me out ASAP
Lmaoooo that IS the real question. Tbh I always told myself I hated change and I didn’t wanna have to adjust to a new unit with new people, so lame, I know.
Welp, because change is difficult. Went to school, paid the monies. It's very daunting and frustrating trying to find out what makes you happy. What career change you'd like that won't put you in the same position. Are you a bedside nurse???
@@kiaharper7172 i am in nursing school now, was a pharmacy tech and now a CNA. the problem is people are getting into health care patient centered fields and do not have any experience. Hospitals do not care about nurses, (unless you are blessed to work at a magnet hospital), and retail pharmacies do not care about their techs. i agree is is daunting to figure out what you want to do, but i have seen so many nurses going directly into the bedside knowing that it is not for them. and a few of my RN friends have even said "im just using this as a way out" and they have been at the bedside for 5-6 years and are extremely bitter. as a new grad i 100% understand getting ur first job at the bedside to gain experience and knowledge but staying in the bedside for years and becoming bitter makes no sense
I quit my job and start esthetician school in a week!!! Was a CNA/Tele tech for almost four years. Was a full blown tele tech when I left and I couldn’t handle the stress of my job. I’m so glad I left!!!!
Hi Alysa, Just found your video after a stressful day of work. I have been thinking of leaving nursing for years but scared of losing that stability. Hearing your story makes me happy, I have thought about of pursing cosmetics for a long time. You are right life is so precious to lose sleep and be stressed out all the time!
Hi Shimbeh, thanks for watching. Don't let your fear hold you back from doing what it is you actually want to do. You only have this one chance on earth so make your time count!
I finished nursing school a few years ago and realized it wasn’t for me. I witnessed a lot of stuff on my clinical rotations as well. I love this! I am a nurse with 3 years of experience on a high acuity burn unit/surgical floor. I recently left the hospital setting to become a community health nurse, and even now am considering pursuing another career path altogether. I'm super proud of you for taking the step to change career paths! Your job sounds so awesome!
Thanks Kyla! ☺️ Nursing and lashing is like night and day. The good thing is you can always carry your nursing experience with you, you'll always have that. Good luck :)
I quit after 6 years too, and in medical school now, its demoralizing coming into work everyday intentionally shortstaffed with 6-7 patients to 1 nurse and 1 or no tech and management telling us to do our best with what we have. Maybe becoming a physician will be hard but: 1) its not physically as demanding as a bedside nurse unless I went into surgery which i'm not interested in 2) for the most part i'll be working independently and I get to make the decisions without having to call angry people for even the simplest of orders, 3) i was always more interested in the disease process and managing it than the day to day tasks that come with helping patients with their daily activities, 4) i don't have to deal first hand with confused patients that i would have to spend the whole shift watching and being late on everything, or worrying about what may happen to them if i go into another patient's room, among other reasons which I don't remember for now.
Happy for you that you made a change in a better suited profession. All of those points are pluses. You reminded me of the nights where I had to sit with my confused patients, it was a nightmare! I hope you bring with you your past experience of being a nurse and treat the nurses well :p you know how shitty it gets for us. Good luck in med school!
So glad I randomly found your channel! I am also a nurse and I have been so over it. That career isn't for me, and it burnt me out so much, esp my first year of being a nurse. I also developed anxiety from the job too. I am trying to go the entrepreneur route and hopefully in the future, I can quit my nurse career. I'm incredibly happy that you found your happiness! Keep it up, you are inspiring
aww thank you so much Jamie for your kind words! I loved reading your story and it's comforting to know that I am not the only one. I love being an entrepreneur, it suits my personality way more. If you ever wanna connect, DM me on IG, I geek out on business-y stuff. the best of luck to you :)
hi... I graduate in a few months from nursing school and these comments have me so scared. i’m terrified. I feel like I have no other option other than bedside and I already know that is not for me! I have super bad anxiety and i’m quiet.... I do really well taking care of patients one on one... I can’t deal with I having multiple patient I might go insane.... i’m so nervous
Girl you could be a nurse aesthetician!!! And potentially open up your own med spa. And bc you're a lash artist you could have more clientele!! You could def use nursing to your advantage
@@thelysleung what about body contorting, facials, etc. I know med spa nurses that don't do injectables. I'm going to do a med spa when I finish my nursing degree and won't be doing injectables.
So happy for you. I’m 3 years into working as a nurse and finally made the decision to go back to school for pharmacy technician. It’s not worth the stress, missing out on time family and friends, and being abused. Life’s too short.
Same!! I've been an lpn for about 5 years, I'm planning to go for mt pharmacy tech, people always tell me that I shouldn't, are you an lpn or RN? what made you want to go for pharmacy tech?
I love this Alysa! I always knew I could not survive in bedside nursing... It's incredibly demanding, both physically & mentally. I'm becoming a family nurse practitioner because it aligns with my career goals. With that being said, even life as an NP can be incredibly stressful, and I think it's important to have outside hobbies / interests. You MUST advocate for yourself. I actually think this would be such a fun side hustle!
Thanks for watching Emily :) hahaha, i know many nurses get into NP program to get away from bedside, but myself, I wouldn't want that much responsbility. Amazing you are one though, I believe we need many more NPs out in the world. It sounds like you will make your work balance with your personal life 👍🏼 YES! taking personal responsibility for your life is so important. It totally would be, and i know many nurses that do lashes on the side :)
omg I'm so proud of you for changing ur career. Nursing is the only job I know and I've always wanted to do microblading and lashes but scared to move on from nursing. This is mind opening.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey May! Thank you for watching, totally normal to feel scared, but I always tell everyone. If I can do it, you can do it! The only thing standing in your way is usually your mind :p
Thank you for sharing your story! I quit my job a couple months ago as a nurse. And I don’t want to go back! I’m thinking I want to be a hair stylist! Unfortunately I might have to find a nursing job to pay for the schooling but at least I’ll be working on getting out that nursing door :)
Aww I’m sorry about the stress. I’m changing my major right now to nursing actually. I want to become a nurse and eventually after some experience, work in a derm clinic!! My dream
Thanks Daniel, sorry if this bummed you out. But the point is, don't settle in a job that you really hate, there are better things out there. I was heavily debating derm clinic too, I think it could be fun if you find the right people to work with. Good luck! :D
New grad here. One week into orientation, a two year contract already signed - and I’m leaving the job and the career altogether. ‘Lots of people enjoy being a nurse/ however, I am not one of them. I can feel the anxiety in my bones before a shift, I am constantly second guessing myself, I need my preceptor’s validation for everything. Last night I drove home from a long 12-13 hour shift and I could hardly keep my eyes open and mind focused on the road. I graduated in May and held off on getting a job for awhile until I was ready. Now that I pursued a hospital job and started, I don’t wanna go any further and especially damage my mental health. Gonna try something different, maybe go back to school sometime next year. Its really not even about the money, I just wanna be happy and I know I am not happy at all doing this. Feel so relieved.
Girl same! I graduated in May and started my residency in September .. now about three months in and I have put my resignation letter! I'm going to miss the money but honestly my happiness is way more important! But to me I don't regret choosing nursing, I just want to explore different fields of nursing and see what my passion is ☺️
@@mariapatlan5746 Good for you for doing what is best for you! Are you going to stay inpatient or seek more non-traditional nursing roles? I just accepted a job in a medical office, and I start next week! I am excited to give outpatient a try before turning my back on nursing altogether.
I absolutely loved this video! Im currently a patient care tech but also a certified lash and Microblading artist. I've been on thr fence about nursing school. Im struggling with focusing on my business or going to nursing school. Eveeyone I work with and some friends been saying I shld do nursing since im already a patient care tech and how the money is good. I always thought if I didn't like being a tech why wld I enjoy being a nurse🤔 They all wld say " girl u can make so much money" But that wld honestly be the only reason I wld become one and I don't think thats right..The moment I registered for my prerequisites which start this month the moment my business picked up a little. So now I'm so confused on what to do. Watching this video showed me I know deep down I want to focus on my business and be my own boss! I hate rotating hrs, I definitely can't do overnights, and I'm actually tired of cleaning ass! So girl thankyou for this video! I hope I make the right decision tho, I think its ppl in my head and I need to follow my heart and what makes me happy..Im happy when I'm not working lol
This video is helping me so much thank you ❤️ Im leaving nursing school , I couldnt take it anymore... and the work conditions are trash! Life is too short for that!
@@MoonLight-sd6fk Hey! So I’ve only been in the field for 2 years. I work with adults with disabilities in a day program setting. Setting is very important. The population I work with is great but they have very unique challenges and circumstances that I wasn’t taught in school. The hard part is working and training with other staff and managers. There’s a lot politics involved and people get very territorial about who gets to make decisions and people can be just plain mean. Staff are paid minimum wage are tired and don’t want to follow through with what clinicians recommend. Also, I was given a lot to handle for someone that was a new grad. My position was probably for a more seasoned staff but a new grad is cheaper. Pros are it’s a stable job, I work regular hours, I don’t work weekends and I can switch up and work in any field I want such as home care, nursing home, schools, outpatient, acute, etc. Hope that helps.
And being an ot in an acute care hospital can make u feel very unimportant like all they think u do is have patients brush their teeth and wash their face. I feel very small around nurses and doctors
I literally just got licensed in November and I can see why ppl leave nursing. It’s so stressful. I’ve been thinking about what I want my future to look like and how much I want work/life balance. I’m happy for you!
Been a dialysis technician for 20 years (15 hour days).....it has taken a toll on me mentally, physically, and was so difficult raising a son on my own. I’ve Been doing a lot of soul searching the past few weeks and debating if I want to finally start using my degree in healthcare administration or leave healthcare all together. I think it’s finally time to make big moves at 42 years old. My hands are still steady....😂
Leaving nursing is such a hard decision for me. I put so much time and effort (and money) into the idea of being able to help people. I feel like I’m “running away” or being a coward or a cop-out. And I’m totally working from home right now, not even at the bedside. I feel like it started in nursing school. I graduated already burned out. I’m just about 3 years in, tried 3 or 4 different jobs, and I’m just so sick of all of it, especially after covid. Just the thought of healthcare makes me want to vomit. I have kids, and I’m not in a position where I can just quit. Even going back to school for something else will take time. I’d love to just go work at a coffee shop or something simple, but I know I’d feel like I was wasting my talents and knowledge. But the thought of doing my job each day is sickening. I actually just stare out of my window blank-faced and paralyzed with this sick feeling most of the day. I’d appreciate a little advice! 😒
Hey Collette, I hear ya. Being in nursing is not easy and isn’t for the light hearted. Could you possibly look into doing nursing part time and picking up a job that you’re passionate about? Maybe this will help you not feel so burned out with nursing but you still have one foot in the door and able to support your family. I always find that having passions and hobbies outside of a draining job is a good way to help you find joy.
I totally agree! next level stress. This is exactly why I am going to be a health coach now after 14 years of nursing; I love my patients but there are many ways to help people
Im a medical assistant starting a lash business soon, having the pressure from my mom to start nursing school 😣 she’s gonna be PISSED when I tell her I am not.
I worked a shift last night, drank a ton of wine before sleeping, and then the entire time I was sleeping I had a dream of the previous shift. If you don't think you're going to like it now, you're definitely not going to like it for DECADES Not discouraging you from making $$$ but I'd there's an alternative you'd be happy with then do that
You have a great presence and personality. It’s great that you had the wherewithal to realize that you needed to leave. And, the courage to do it. Peace of mind, freedom and control of your life is priceless. Best wishes!
about to finish nursing school soon and all i wanna be is a tattoo artist. this video came up, ill take it as a sign. congrats to you for doing your thing girl!
At my hospital some units take care of 7-8 patients 😧. I loved caring for people, but I was so incredibly stressed out on the med surge unit. Plus the customer service aspect. I cried every single day, I lost weight, and I couldn't sleep some nights until 3am. So I left to work in the OR which is much better workload and schedule wise, but I'm still considering changing careers to something less stressful.
Omggggg 7-8 patients?! That is so brutal and I’m sure highly unsafe. I can see why that impacted you the way it did :( I’m happy to hear you switched units but keep going! I wish I had told myself sooner to not stay so long in a job I disliked.
Honestly, I'm afraid to give up the "stability" of nursing. To do what I really enjoy which is lashing/waxing. Although I agree with EVERYTHING you said.
I remember thinking that exact same thing for monthsss. But at some point I hit my tipping point. If you make a plan in which you have enough savings and clientele before you quit, could you give up nursing? Tbh, if your lashing/waxing doesn’t work out, you can always go back to nursing. That’s how I saw it. But thankfully I never needed to.
@@kiaharper7172 so true. The beauty industry brings in billions of dollars per year. People will be dead broke and still find ways to do their beauty treatments. For a lot of people beauty maintenance is mental health therapy as well. You really can’t go wrong in the beauty industry if you have passion, skill, try hard enough, and know what you’re doing.
I agree. You do reach a tipping point. I’ve been a nurse for 10 years. I was burnt out at my 3rd year but I waited until my 8th year to get out of the hospital and surgery centers to do more chill nursing jobs such as Vitamin IV infusion because nursing was taking a toll on me. I was holding out and I got one more nursing job 8 months before the pandemic hit the US. I promised myself this would be the last nursing job I take and that I’d keep it for maximum 2-3 years while I work on a career change. I was let go and during the pandemic I realized I wanted to move on with my life. I decided to go to school and get my esthetician license. I start in the Fall. My husband is all for it and because I still want to work, I’m working part time at a music shop bc frankly…I like it.
Omg this video was made just for me 😍🙏🏼so freaking inspiring ! I'm almost done with my LVN program and you know the next step is RN school. But I have been thinking lately about esthetician school to run my own business but always second guess myself which is the worst to do. I definitely value family time and most importantly taking care of myself and being happy. Thank you for this video I will be making moves this year to own my own business one day ! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
aww thanks Gloria! I'm inspired by you to hear that you're thinking of running your own business one day! I love it when women have huge aspirations and get into business. If you work hard, I know you'll make your dreams come true :) Get it girl!
Same for lawyers. You make so much money but the stress, insane hours, pressure to be on point every single time, and missed time away from family is not worth it. You make a ton of money (depends on the company) but that doesn’t matter because you won’t have much time to spend it
Thank you so much! My nursing colleagues who’ve been working for 20 years said nursing workload has changed alottt over the years. The system is getting too strained :(
I am currently a respiratory therapist and man I cannot wait to quit lol especially after this pandemic. I currently am a lash and brow artist and am pushing to become part time real soon
Hey Heida, thanks for your comment. I can't even imagine what you're going through right now with the pandemic. I'm sure it's a shit show. So happy for you that you're able to pivot. Wishing you a speedy transition!
I really admire you. I have only been a nurse for 4 years and I am already feeling the burnout. I want to explore my passion in art but I'm too scared that I won't make as much money as I am now. Hopefully I'll be able to turn my passion into a career so I can leave my job.
hi, i’m a few months away from graduating nursing and these comments are really scaring me. 😭😭 I do not want to do bedside nursing but I feel like I won’t have a choice... I hate that!! everyone told me nursing would open up so many paths for me but rn i’m starting to feel kinda suffocated and forced into bedside, which would be hell for me.
I’m so happy for you! I left my job June 28th 2021 & never looked back. Nephrology was amazing but it’s like you said, very draining with the schedule.
That’s awesome! I’m glad you found something that truly aligns with you and brings you joy. I work in Radiology as a Sonographer. I’m seriously considering nursing. I’d ultimately wanna be a holistic or aesthetic nurse. Bedside nursing looks like torture!
Im a CNA on a cardiac floor and I hate it. I’m so burnt out. I’ve been thinking of doing lashes for a long time and will finally go for it this year. I know another nurse who also left the profession , opened a lash business and she loves it. I’ll still finish my RN prerequisites but hope to make lashing my full time job
I just gonna say this is soooooo trueeee . Being a nurse long term just kinda freak me out each time me thinking of it .. I just waiting my 6 years bond to end
Not a lash artist, lol. But I've been driving semis for about ten years now. I know of two former truckers that jumped into nursing for whatever reason. I've been pushed towards it a few times, but the higher susceptibility to pathogens, even moreso with the on-going pandemic, has made me back out each time.
I graduated from college with a psychology degree. Got my first job a couple months later as a caseworker/counselor. And let me tell you that is was stressful hearing all the patients stories all the trauma they went through. And the pay is terrible.
I know what you mean about the insomnia! I finally left hospital nursing due to the bullying, and went into homecare nursing. But management always made wonderful but false promises, and after almost five years of 14 hour days, and no overtime, I had spent most of it being paid as a care aide or "home support worker", which was slightly more than minimum wage. So after five years, I still had massive student debt, and a lot of officially non-nursing hours, despite the fact that I was doing nursing tasks. I had started my own small nursing home care business, but when my car went belly up, and subsequently, so did my nursing business, I finally walked away. I really wish I had seen a video like this along the way. I'm slowly recovering financially, and getting an education little by little, because I struggled so long to pay off my student debt, I can't get anymore student loans for a better education. You're smart, I'm sure you have a much improved future ahead of you! Thank you for posting this video! :D
Argh! This is painful to hear, when people take advantage of other people. I'm sorry you had to go through that. But INCREDIBLY awesome and brave of you to start your own business, even though you had to walk away from it. It's never too late to start over again :p I hope you are debt free one day (because lots of people never get out of debt) and you'll be making profits soon. Good luck to you and thank you for thinking I'm smart haha.
I worked night shift for years because I simply couldn't handle the day shift's craziness. I would sleep all day and stay up all night, even on my days off. I would get up about 4:00 p.m. and go to sleep at about 9:00 a.m. the next morning. I can't tell you how many times I almost fell asleep driving home from work. Thank God I never had an accident. I became an RN in 1992.
omg I resonate with this so much. Before I quit, I did night shifts for a whole for the same reason you did. And ditto about the driving. I only had a 10 min drive, but it was downtown. Thank good ness there was no rush hour or I'd be done.
Been a CNA for 10years. Even if i had a few good days, i hated it. Before i quit the health field all together, i was considering going to nursing school to become an RN. However, i realised it was not for me. My nurse colleagues were just as bumed out as we the CNAs. Heck o do not miss being beaten up, spat on, scratched and racially abused by clients; bullied by management and some crappy colleagues. I've got what feels like siatica now and carpal tunnel and my former colleagues complained of the same thing. I'm on the path to doing something totally different and have zero regrets!!!
I loved your lash video :) I am working as a independent lash artist while in nursing school! Lashing is truly my favorite thing to do, I look forward to it every time Im in nursing classes! Lol. Keep up the great videos!! :)
Hi Jenna, thanks for your comment. I love hearing that you loveeee lashing. You know you have a passion for it when you miss doing it! I remember I would take my lash palette and practice fanning while working night shifts at the hospital. Everyone was so curious as to what the hell I was doing lol. I hope this video didn't discourage you from nursing. I think it's great you have both so you're not burning out from one or the other. Best of luck in nursing school!
@@thelysleung I love that you were practicing fanning your lashes during the night shift lol! I definitely have a good balance being able to have a “getaway” from nursing school and do my lashing, but ideally my goal is to combine lashes with cosmetic nursing one day (: thank you so much!
Omg I want to follow in your footsteps. I’m already a licensed cosmetologist. At this point I’m so stressed I dnt know why I ever went back to school for nursing instead of just focusing on cosmetology
i dont know how i ended up here :p but i totally agree. healthcare work is killing me, especially during this pandemic. i will quit to become a pokemon master hahaha
I'm not a nurse. But upon graduating and getting my license as a Physical Therapist Asst., I decided not to become one, because healthcare was not for me. I was so depressed during my clinicals and I kept trying to tell myself it was the culture of that location, next one would be better, but it wasn't. I work from home now as a tutor and I love it.
healthcare is so hard to thrive in. atleast you had the courage to keep going from one location to the next, i just stayed in one miserable place >< happy that you found something you love though :)
@@thelysleung Haha it wasn't by choice. My school gives us 3 clinical rotations. Our third got cancelled because of COVID, but they still let us graduate. I got my license for the heck of it and then was like "OK, I'm done." ^_^'
After 20+ yrs in nursing, it takes a special person to be married to you. They have to GET IT. My exhusband decided to go on dates with his coworker while I slaved away working nights, holidays, weekends. You literally sacrifice your life, moments with you kids, your marriage when you're a nurse.
:( I'm so sorry to hear this. You feel like you're in your own bubble sometimes and even the closest people to you don't understand. Hoping you're staying positive 💜
Hi Alysa, I’m so stoked for you that you got out of shift work and started doing something you enjoy and are successful at! Doing splits sounds even worse than doing nights which I’ve been doing for many years an LVN. Not only do nights ruin your social life; they take a toll on your emotional, mental and physical well being! So congrats on your major change! I’d love to do lashes but I’m not an Cosmetologist or Esthetician. Plus I’m worried about not making steady money (at first).Hopefully I’ll find a way to leave the nursing grind, lol! I’m trying to a least try the ER while I’m still a nurse.
Heyyyy, thank you so much! I can relate to you because I did night shifts for a year before I left nursing so I know what you mean that it really messes with your life. :( Make a plan, never quit cold turkey, and transition slowly out of nursing. The money will come if you have the passion and drive for what you do. Try the ER, try many things! It's never too late to NOT do night shifts for the rest of your life :p best of luck to you!
@@thelysleung Thank you so much for your reply! I am going to take your great advice! I’m excited to one day have a creative career and be my own boss as well, so thank you for the inspiration! Take care! 💕
I’ve been an LPN for a little over a year and have hated every single path I’ve tried to take. I have always loved the thought of being an algebra teacher so I’m thinking of going back for that or cosmetology. I also love hair lol.
Oh my god, you’re living my dream! 😆 I always joke about becoming a lash artist and leaving optometry. I need to make moves YDAY. 😝 happy for you though!! And props to you for making moves and taking risks!
thanks Joanne! :D how it started with me was i saw my lash artist do what does and i thought, "if she can do it, so can i". Go get your lashes done and you might see some sparks flying hahah :p
Girl you've had me crying and saying AMEN throughout this video!! I need to quit nursing today!! I started a cosmetics business, but I need to do something else and fast. I cannot stand this profession any more, it's slowly killing me.
i just had a fever and was in bed all day. im pretty sure it was cuz of stess. im in the rn program and im miserable. i have the worst teachers ever. the problem is im only getting older and dont have a secured job. i also got acceped into rad tech school...i really dont know what to do
it's never too late to become financially secure and have work security, but you gotta weigh what's more important to you - being secure or doing work you like to do. congrats on getting accepted to school! sometimes it takes some experimenting to really find something you like to do, so if you know being an RN is not for you, keep moving on. If not now, you'll probably get out later.
I'm quitting nursing as well but haven't found employment. I'm looking for a nursing job now until I can find other employment. I reluctantly found one and would have applied for the position until I discovered the schedule of the nursing job which was 8 am - 9:30 pm Monday- Friday, weekends and on call, with a 2 hour break daily and a little over an hour commute. After observing the schedule I determined I didn't desire to move in with the patient. The schedule and commute were deal breakers for me.
IDK how I got here but my coworker said I should get into the lash or eyebrow industry. She part time lashes when she wants to and she still gets clients to agree to her time of availability.
Thank you God for letting me stumble across this video!! Perfect timing!! Can you give advice how to get into lashing? Do you need to be an aesthetician?
Hey Theresa, thanks so much for watching. The requirements are different for each state (if you live in the US). If you live in Canada, there are no prerequisites, you just take a lash course. If you're the States, you may need your esthetician license before you take a lash course. I would check with a lash artist who lives in your area, or do a google search.
Thanks for taking the time to watch this video :) Tell me what's holding you back down below, I'd love to know ;)
Good for you! You have to do what fulfills you!

It IS stressful! 😫
This is exactly why I am over being an RT 🤦🏻♀️ Covid has really put things into perspective !
So ur saying go do a business degree instead of a nursing degree
Exactly why I'm over being a Registered Occupational Therapist...terrible profession
@@hannarachelle1530 you can create your own business/practice and be that for others. YOU ARE WHAT YOU SEEK!
I'm leaving nursing also! So happy to find someone else in a similar situation. I'm going into fitness, but still.. people think I'm crazy.. nursing is good money, you'll aways have a job.. okay cool, but what ABOUT HAPPINESS!?!?!?!
yes, my sentiments exactly!! good luck with pivoting hun!
How long were you a nurse? Have you officially left?
No they won’t. The hospitals will do what they have always done. Recruit from some third world toilet.
I hope they’d raise the pay! It’s gonna be reallyyyy hard on the nurses that stay unfortunately. :(

I was an R.N and quit 7 years ago to be a homemaker. I have never been happier. I think being a nurse is an IMPOSSIBLE job.
Arghh I'm SO happy for you
It's not impossible; hospitals just make it that way with the short staff and bullshit. Most nurses wouldn't quit if they treated us the right way and put safety and healing first.
What’s a home maker ?
@@Kidblinks Exactly! It doesn't have to be this way. Nursing can be a very enjoyable career. It's the broken system and greed that fosters shitty work conditions and impossible expectations; and unfortunately this is too commonplace.

This June I will have been an RN for 29 years. I'm 56 and I wish that I would of changed careers after the first year.

@@thelysleung Indeed, whats tge point of living if you dont feel alive ?
This video is absolutely 100 % true, that's why i quit nursing too and i did not regret at all, it don't make sense to stress yourself for life, being unhappy, sacrificing health and family which is the most important thing specially at this times, and by the way there is a lot of better opportunity up there, way more rewarding with less stress if your looking for one. honestly I'm in nursing school and have such a love for entrepreneurship.
It sounds like you already know what you want to do. There is no right or wrong path, it’s what you make of it. Good luck to you babe!
Did you start yet ?
I look forward to finding what’s right for me.💛
Wishing you the BEST of luck and all the success!! Don't give up, you will find something you truly enjoy. 💜
Sigh 😐
my best advice to keep moving around til you find a unit that is more accepting and the culture is a right fit for you.

WOOHOOO! amazing Emily, I'm sure you feel like a whole new person!
Love your energy in this video. Really can tell you are super happy with your decision to switch into a career that you love ❣️
Thank you so much! I’m glad my passion came through :) so happy that you watched and I’m super grateful!
Hi Alysa,
Just found your video after a stressful day of work.
Unsafe patient to nurse ratios as well as a doctor committing an error and leaving the nurse and me as a student with a coding patient. I decided to open my own pet sitting business. It is also a lot of hours unfortunately. But at least I’m working with animals and I’m my own boss. It’s nice to hear stories of people choosing a career after nursing. I felt guilty for many years after for letting people down and not working as a nurse.
Maybe becoming a physician will be hard but:
1) its not physically as demanding as a bedside nurse unless I went into surgery which i'm not interested in
2) for the most part i'll be working independently and I get to make the decisions without having to call angry people for even the simplest of orders,
3) i was always more interested in the disease process and managing it than the day to day tasks that come with helping patients with their daily activities,
4) i don't have to deal first hand with confused patients that i would have to spend the whole shift watching and being late on everything, or worrying about what may happen to them if i go into another patient's room, among other reasons which I don't remember for now.
@@thelysleung of course, will follow you on ig 😄
Haha, so many people tell me this! Tbh, injectables doesn't align with my personal values so I know I'd be in the wrong profession.
@@thelysleung so admirable!!!! very true
@@thelysleung what about body contorting, facials, etc. I know med spa nurses that don't do injectables. I'm going to do a med spa when I finish my nursing degree and won't be doing injectables.
@@KandyGTV that’s what I want to do..I could do without the injectables. Good luck 🍀
So happy for you. I’m 3 years into working as a nurse and finally made the decision to go back to school for pharmacy technician. It’s not worth the stress, missing out on time family and friends, and being abused. Life’s too short.
I absolutely agree with this. Finding the balance is key. Happy for you too Kris 😍
I left medicine, too, for lashing! I’m so glad I did.
Yayyy! a fellow lash artist :) Congrats Sarah. It's the best feeling!
omg I'm so proud of you for changing ur career.
I want to do that too
Thank you for sharing your story! I quit my job a couple months ago as a nurse. And I don’t want to go back! I’m thinking I want to be a hair stylist! Unfortunately I might have to find a nursing job to pay for the schooling but at least I’ll be working on getting out that nursing door :)
Thanks for listening :) That's exactly what I would do. Atleast you'll have a fall back and you're not poor lol.
Good luck! :D
@@thelysleung thank you! I’ve got one more year of pre reqs
This made me realize one thing. I do plan on keeping my RN but I need to work on and grow my business, I’m a firearms instructor.
Very cool!
Feel so relieved.
on the same boat here. 💔
@@bbbbreeg Really? Are you a new grad as well? Would be interested in hearing how things are going for you.
Girl same! I graduated in May and started my residency in September .. now about three months in and I have put my resignation letter! Im leaving nursing school , I couldnt take it anymore... and the work conditions are trash! Life is too short for that!
I’m not even a nurse lol I’m an occupational therapist but I’m over it too 😫
Hi, do you mind sharing what are the pros and cons you experienced as an occupation therapist? Thanks!
@@bamin93 Thank you so much for sharing your experience!! I hope your work environment and other factors get better for you!
i'm in RN school and i'm over it
And being an ot in an acute care hospital can make u feel very unimportant like all they think u do is have patients brush their teeth and wash their face. I feel very small around nurses and doctors
I literally just got licensed in November and I can see why ppl leave nursing. It’s so stressful. I’ve been thinking about what I want my future to look like and how much I want work/life balance. I’m happy for you!
Pandemic probably makes it worst 10 fold >< . Congrats on your license though! I'm sure you will figure it out. :)
Yeah nursing is f******k stressfull!
omg. I wouldn’t even wish it upon on my worst enemies. 😣
What about working at a private clinic? I hear they have better hours for working. Is that true?
Been a dialysis technician for 20 years (15 hour days).....it has taken a toll on me mentally, physically, and was so difficult raising a son on my own. I’ve Been doing a lot of soul searching the past few weeks and debating if I want to finally start using my degree in healthcare administration or leave healthcare all together. I think it’s finally time to make big moves at 42 years old. My hands are still steady....😂
Cheers to BIG MOVESSS!!!! 🙌
I'm in a similar situation. Did u find out what you wanna do?
But you're working from home
I totally agree! next level stress. This is exactly why I am going to be a health coach now after 14 years of nursing; I love my patients but there are many ways to help people
Do you mind me asking , what do a health coach do ? How you get into it ?
Good for you Felicia!! I believe in preventative health so I'm all for this! Good luck to you
Im a medical assistant starting a lash business soon, having the pressure from my mom to start nursing school 😣 she’s gonna be PISSED when I tell her I am not.
Hahahaha can’t always please the parentals. Follow your heart and best of luck!
It’s your life be happy sis !!!!❤️❤️❤️
Yeah, going to nursing school for other people is NOT a good idea
I worked a shift last night, drank a ton of wine before sleeping, and then the entire time I was sleeping I had a dream of the previous shift.
If you don't think you're going to like it now, you're definitely not going to like it for DECADES
Not discouraging you from making $$$ but I'd there's an alternative you'd be happy with then do that
Do what is best for you.
You have a great presence and personality. It’s great that you had the wherewithal to realize that you needed to leave. And, the courage to do it.
Peace of mind, freedom and control of your life is priceless.

If you have the talent for art, become a tattoo artist! Nursing is 👎🏾
At my hospital some units take care of 7-8 patients 😧.
Do agency work or go PRN for now
Just think.
People ALWAYS need and want pampering and grooming. You won't fail :)

Same for lawyers. You make so much money but the stress, insane hours, pressure to be on point every single time, and missed time away from family is not worth it. You make a ton of money (depends on the company) but that doesn’t matter because you won’t have much time to spend it

This is an amazing plan!

Oh hey! Currently a cardiac nurse looking to leave haha but I’m going into web development.
Good luck to you and thank you for thinking I'm smart haha.
@@thelysleung Thanks, I really needed that!
After COVID, as a nursing student I’m thinking to pursue an additional degree in history once I graduate as a backup.
I definitely have a good balance being able to have a “getaway” from nursing school and do my lashing, but ideally my goal is to combine lashes with cosmetic nursing one day (: thank you so much!

i dont know how i ended up here :p but i totally agree. healthcare work is killing me, especially during this pandemic. i will quit to become a pokemon master hahaha
hahahha.. do it up!!!!
I’ve had some of the best conversations with wise woman while lashing.
hahah I love this.
I hope you find your way out.
I’m going to go to on call this summer 2021! Thanks for the inspiration
You’re very welcome! You got this 👏🏼❤️
i just had a fever and was in bed all day. im pretty sure it was cuz of stess. im in the rn program and im miserable. i have the worst teachers ever. the problem is im only getting older and dont have a secured job. i also got acceped into rad tech school...i really dont know what to do
it's never too late to become financially secure and have work security, but you gotta weigh what's more important to you - being secure or doing work you like to do. congrats on getting accepted to school! sometimes it takes some experimenting to really find something you like to do, so if you know being an RN is not for you, keep moving on.
The schedule and commute were deal breakers for me.
that schedule should be illegal wtf!!!!!!!!
IDK how I got here but my coworker said I should get into the lash or eyebrow industry. She part time lashes when she wants to and she still gets clients to agree to her time of availability.
That’s the beauty of it! You take clients on when you want around your work schedule.
Amazing video. Thank you so much. I needed this.
sister you nailed it so well
Thank youu ☺️
Thank you God for letting me stumble across this video!! Perfect timing!! Can you give advice how to get into lashing? Do you need to be an aesthetician?
Hey Theresa, thanks so much for watching. The requirements are different for each state (if you live in the US). If you live in Canada, there are no prerequisites, you just take a lash course. If you're the States, you may need your esthetician license before you take a lash course. I would check with a lash artist who lives in your area, or do a google search.
