He went insane because of the following reasons: a) He's a Highblood, incredibly violent. b) He was already mentally unstable. c) He looked into the eyes of Cal. That last one is incredibly important. SO IMPORTANT. Lil' Cal brings misfortune upon the Universe it resides in. It is an evil object, that's why Caliborn wanted it. Now think about it this way. If a mentally imbalanced naturally violent being looks into the eyes of the most evil object in any Universe, do you think he is going to go insane? OBVIOUSLY HE IS! I'm open to counter points.
I'm probably not correct, but I think he suddenly seemed completely bonkers because he was sober. What I mean by this is that his 'pies' dulled his violent mind and being sober let that part of his mind run free. Does that sound right?
Xelipho I'm pretty sure that the sopor slime was responsible for keeping Gamzee mellow, unconcerned, friendly and as casual as he was, as well as distracting him from the worse elements of his existence (his father and the voices of his split nature). In my opinion it also kept him relatively lacklustre and dissuaded him from forming complex, long-term plans. Gamzee off the sopor slime was more highly strung, unbalanced, but he also went through a few other transformative moments that were equally important - feeling abandoned and betrayed by Karkat (partially due to Karkat obviously preferring him in his drugged-up state), exposure to Lil' Cal as you've said, plus of course the ultimate blasphemies sent over unwittingly by Dave (themselves of course released via CrockerCorp).
Debbie Jackson What you've said is all true, but what I'm saying, is that Gamzee going insane was not due to the lack of slime, I'm saying that that's not really a factor, the other things are, it was only sort of a response to Karkat's question, while Cal is subtly implied to be the reason, Slime is only mentioned to say that he regretted ever having it because of it's terrible side effects, and that he's ran out.

Gamzee did not go insane simply because he was a highblood. Not many remember this, but gamzee randomly contacted dave, and broke his mind by showing him ICP. Gamzee is a bard and lives on some sort of a lie, which was his religion in this case. Seeing ICP broke his reality and turned him into a bard of rage he was meant to be. He then refused to eat soper, which there is still some left in a couple of pies as seen while contacting karkat, and had an everlasting high blooded rage fill him from both his powers and his normal hemocaste. To sum it all up, it's Dave's fault whether we like it or not.

Man, didn't expect to wanna cry. The first character of Homestuck I was introduced to was Gamzee and he's been high on my favourites list since. I never realised how fucking miserable he was. I feel really bad for the poor guy even though he's done messed up shit. I just wanna give him a hug. "They're not looking anyway" hits like a million bricks, damn. This really hits with realization and sympathy. I'll always be one of the biggest Gamzee fans, no one can change my mind.
This was the kind of song that I consider the awakening of my DID. I know I'm not the first, but the so strongly conflicting sides of his feelings really resonated with my internal battle with my own thoughts and with someone who was a stranger in my own mind. I could talk about it so much, but it's still something I can't quite put into proper words. It's different from BPD, but I can absolutely see the similarities. I am grateful for Gamzee because as a character, that character helped me look into the window that welcomed me to learn so much about myself. If it means anything, I was so strongly into Homestuch, Hetalia and all those corners of the internet back in 2013. Been a few many years and I've seen therapists which have absolutely helped me understand myself. I just want to express that this song was a very, incredibly important part of my growth and it is entirely okay to relate to these feelings as an individual. It's okay to ask questions.
This song does a great job of portraying the two sides of Gamzee's character. His highblood rage and insanity, and his love for his friends we see during act 5. I love how this song makes it seem as though the two versions of Gamzee were battling for supremacy, the control of his body etc, but the violent side eventually won after they increased in intensity after he ran out of slime. This fits my headcanon for Gamzee perfectly and the writer of the song is very talented. :)
Okay, so, back in September, my friend Kyla sat next to me on the bus on the way to school, and I looked over, and she had her ear buds on and this video playing on her phone. I had never heard the word 'Homestuck' before at that time, but the video was interesting, so I watched it with her. Now that I know what Homestuck is, I'm on act 6 act 3, I'm crying. When you think about Homestuck, its really fuckin' sad, and Andrew is going to make every character die someday, but it just pulls you in and you want to keep reading, no matter how sad it is. And if you take away the, uh, killing people part, this actually explains a lot of real life people. And I had no idea where I was going with this, but I do mean all of these words. -RB

Somehow when listening to this 4-6 years ago I never realized this was based on another song. So it was only today, while looking for another song, that I stumbled upon the original song, which hit me with enough deja vu to end up back here.
I can relate to this song. When you are just fighting yourself. Such as, "Do you think I should talk to them?" "They all hate you anyway" I have felt like that all the time. Wondering why I even bother.

I remember seeing this and the other creepy Gamzee song. I remember not knowing that their blood were different colors. It always confused me until i started reading into it. Its crazy that this is my intro to Homestuck, i still remembered the lyrics
Gamzee is honestly just a lonely, misunderstood stoner kid. people who say he is evil or a monster are wrong. Why? Think why would he surpress his homicidal tendencies if he was fine with them, especially on his culture? He wants something to fill holes. His friends left him and he felt he would be alone and forgotten. so he made sure his friends couldn't leave him ever again by keeping bodies. How many trolls did he really kill again? Two. Eridan killed more than him at three. Kanaya killed Eridan. Vriska killed both Aradia (In a way. Technically Sollux killed her,but he was controlled to eat mindhoney which made him even easier to control, so he was really just a weapon) AND Tavros. Even Terezi killed someone. As for the misunderstood part. He was part of a dying or already dead religion. Gamzee also had EVERY SINGLE RIGHT TO KILL NEP AND EQUIUS. That's right. He was higher in blood than both of them. He was backed up by the law of his land. You know who wasn't? Eridan. Kanaya. Terezi. They all killed above their blood cast. Eridan committed regicide. If you are gonna point fingers at the psychopath point them at eridan. The one who has committed a triple homicide, in which one was regicide.
I love this song... its like you don't realize the mood until you actually listen to it... I listened and I understand it.... people act like they are just fine but they could be hurting inside.... and I love this song for what it is, not for its tittle. so the people that don't like this... its fine... It's not just a metaphor though. This specifically applies to Gamzee' s insanity, as he is basically a split mindset. I don't know if you've read homestuck, but He TaLkS LiKe ThIs FiRsT, and when he's sober, HE ALTERNATES BETWEEN CAPS LOCK. That actually signifies his double sided nature, one calm, one aggressive. When they are merged, it's the dimwitted Gamzee that everyone loves. Inner struggle, and insanity.

Oh god I love Gamzee, he's such a complex character despite first impressions, like most of the characters in Homestuck. This video perfectly shows how I think he feels. Not to mention the art is amazing and this is exactly how I imagine Gamzees voice.

I didn't say this before but didn't you guys realize that Gamzee is a quiet and shy person in real life til' he became sober and released his real voice which is REALLY LOUD. Why would the other players let him out of the fridge if he killed, Equius, Nepeta, and Karkat? Without Gamzee in the scene the game would've gone alot better, Equius could've made soulbots for many of the character's, however, the games already over, Gamzee's stuck in the fridge, and Equius and Nepeta are still in the war... Thanks to Gamzee.
There are a lot of people saying that him being sober isnt what caused him to go insane, and they are partially right. However, it was a contending factor. As if you look at gamzees route in pesterquest ((which ik are a debate on whether or not the information in them is even canonical or not, but whatever, using my resources how i can)) in the bad ending, and you convince him to not eat the pies anymore, the MSPAR jumps forward in time, and sees that Gamzee had gone out and murdered all of his friends. Now, there are people also saying that Cal is what caused the insanity, which is also a factor. I believe, if my memory serves me right, that he looked into the eyes of cal at one point. The evil one ((because remember, there are two, which means "bad juju" while both exist in the same universe)) and people believe thats what happened. And then theres the point of Dave sending him ICP. It couldve been a joke, and it couldve just been a silly thing, but Gamzee does have the same stance and look as when he's choking Equius ((could be lazy drawing but i feel like considering how far apart they happened, i doubt it)). And then, the final point of why he was so violent He's a purple blood And before you say "WeLl ErIdAn AnD fEfErI aRe HiGhEr AnD tHeY aReNt nEaRlY aS vIoLeNt" Yes they are. Eridan literally killed half the people on the meteor, and feferi- Well she's not violent, but the Condesce, whom is the same blood cast as feferi, is extremely so. Not to mwntion it is said that if the two were to meet, the condesce would most certainly attempt to kill her, as is natural. It is seen when Meenah and Feferi meet. So now that we've disputed that, there are the reasons. I may be 10 years late, but idrc. I wanted to put my piece out there.
I feel really bad for Gamzee.. :0( If I was a troll in Homestuck, I would make sure that I would always be there for him, even if we weren't moirails.... He needs a lot of hugs and just someone to care for him.

You know, all trolls actually all have sad feature in there life. Karkat hates himself and (possibly) blames himself for gamzee insanity and the death of feferi. Aradia was killed by vriska dying and loosing her wonderful personality Tavros was bullied and paralyzed AND killed by vriska, and he has low self confidence :( Sollux is depressed and has mood swings (possibly) after aradia's death, which (might've) been his crush/ matesprit Nepeta had always had a crush on karkat but was never able to tell karkat how she feels, also watching the relationship with karkat and terezi Kanaya (might've) thought that the matroib was her responsibility to save there species. Terezi was blinded by vriska and on the day when her dragon mom/dad was hatched is was killed by a meteor(?) Vriska does'nt mean to be a bitch, and she totally felt wrecked after killing tavros, loosing her guard when terezi killed her(?) Equius made aradiabot because he was lonely(?) and feels responsible for nepetas death(?) Gamzee, well you can hear the song playing, cant you? Eridan is completly lonely, trying his best to make quadrants with everyone else. And he killed feferi because he felt like she was in his way. (I bet he regrets it) :( Last, Feferi feels like eridan had changed over the few sweeps, and (possibly) feels like sollux only likes her because her personality is almost like aradia's when she was alive. Sorry for such a LARGE comment, but this is to all the people who think gamzee is the only one with a sad life. Please correct me if some of my theories are wrong. Thanks for reading!

Gamzee...this is just to add something to the comment below. Gamzee is only somewhat crazy. He has the highest blood for land dwellers on the hemospectrum and that makes him unpredictable and murderous. Also a lot of trolls kill other trolls. Take Vriska for example. She killed A LOT of trolls to feed her lusus. Just thought that should be added :o)

I interpreted his situation as him wanting to show everyone that he was stronger than the slime, as Karkat kept screaming at him to not eat it any more.so when he was off of the slime he kinda lost it and... You know... killed most of his friends :T But this is amazing too. Here everyone is trying to help him, teach him, train him, into someone he's not, and so he pushes them away because he just wants to be himself. He wanted everyone to shut up. So as he is off the slime, line isn't thinking straight so he makes most of them shut up... right? o3o I like this video a lot

I know how you feel. honestly i can't tell you it gets better because i don't know that for myself yet, but don't let them get to you. and MOST DEFINITELY DO NOT CHANGE FOR THEM. until people learn to accept you for who you are, the best remedy i've found is fiction. find fandoms, because they are more accepting than the majority of people. also you get to meet other people who understand you

Gamzee makes me think so much of the whole smeagol and gollum experience. and that explains why i like him so much because i tend to enjoy the more twisted characters because they are not perfect and can't be seen as such. this making me connect to them a bit better.

Man, didn't expect to wanna cry. The first character of Homestuck I was introduced to was Gamzee and he's been high on my favourites list since. I never realised how fucking miserable he was. I feel really bad for the poor guy even though he's done messed up shit. I just wanna give him a hug. "They're not looking anyway" hits like a million bricks, damn. This really hits with realization and sympathy. I'll always be one of the biggest Gamzee fans, no one can change my mind.
This was the kind of song that I consider the awakening of my DID.
I know I'm not the first, but the so strongly conflicting sides of his feelings really resonated with my internal battle with my own thoughts and with someone who was a stranger in my own mind. I could talk about it so much, but it's still something I can't quite put into proper words. It's different from BPD, but I can absolutely see the similarities.
I am grateful for Gamzee because as a character, that character helped me look into the window that welcomed me to learn so much about myself.
If it means anything, I was so strongly into Homestuch, Hetalia and all those corners of the internet back in 2013. Been a few many years and I've seen therapists which have absolutely helped me understand myself. I just want to express that this song was a very, incredibly important part of my growth and it is entirely okay to relate to these feelings as an individual. It's okay to ask questions.
This song does a great job of portraying the two sides of Gamzee's character. His highblood rage and insanity, and his love for his friends we see during act 5. I love how this song makes it seem as though the two versions of Gamzee were battling for supremacy, the control of his body etc, but the violent side eventually won after they increased in intensity after he ran out of slime. This fits my headcanon for Gamzee perfectly and the writer of the song is very talented. :)
Okay, so, back in September, my friend Kyla sat next to me on the bus on the way to school, and I looked over, and she had her ear buds on and this video playing on her phone. I had never heard the word 'Homestuck' before at that time, but the video was interesting, so I watched it with her. Now that I know what Homestuck is, I'm on act 6 act 3, I'm crying. When you think about Homestuck, its really fuckin' sad, and Andrew is going to make every character die someday, but it just pulls you in and you want to keep reading, no matter how sad it is. And if you take away the, uh, killing people part, this actually explains a lot of real life people. And I had no idea where I was going with this, but I do mean all of these words.

Gamzee is honestly just a lonely, misunderstood stoner kid. people who say he is evil or a monster are wrong. Why? Think why would he surpress his homicidal tendencies if he was fine with them, especially on his culture? He wants something to fill holes. His friends left him and he felt he would be alone and forgotten. so he made sure his friends couldn't leave him ever again by keeping bodies. How many trolls did he really kill again? Two. Eridan killed more than him at three. Kanaya killed Eridan. Vriska killed both Aradia (In a way. Technically Sollux killed her,but he was controlled to eat mindhoney which made him even easier to control, so he was really just a weapon) AND Tavros. Even Terezi killed someone. As for the misunderstood part. He was part of a dying or already dead religion. Gamzee also had EVERY SINGLE RIGHT TO KILL NEP AND EQUIUS. That's right. He was higher in blood than both of them. He was backed up by the law of his land. You know who wasn't? Eridan. Kanaya. Terezi. They all killed above their blood cast. Eridan committed regicide. If you are gonna point fingers at the psychopath point them at eridan. The one who has committed a triple homicide, in which one was regicide.

It's not just a metaphor though. This specifically applies to Gamzee' s insanity, as he is basically a split mindset. I don't know if you've read homestuck, but He TaLkS LiKe ThIs FiRsT, and when he's sober, HE ALTERNATES BETWEEN CAPS LOCK. That actually signifies his double sided nature, one calm, one aggressive. When they are merged, it's the dimwitted Gamzee that everyone loves. Inner struggle, and insanity.

Oh god I love Gamzee, he's such a complex character despite first impressions, like most of the characters in Homestuck. This video perfectly shows how I think he feels. Not to mention the art is amazing and this is exactly how I imagine Gamzees voice.

Why would the other players let him out of the fridge if he killed, Equius, Nepeta, and Karkat? Without Gamzee in the scene the game would've gone alot better, Equius could've made soulbots for many of the character's, however, the games already over, Gamzee's stuck in the fridge, and Equius and Nepeta are still in the war... There are a lot of people saying that him being sober isnt what caused him to go insane, and they are partially right.
However, it was a contending factor. As if you look at gamzees route in pesterquest ((which ik are a debate on whether or not the information in them is even canonical or not, but whatever, using my resources how i can)) in the bad ending, and you convince him to not eat the pies anymore, the MSPAR jumps forward in time, and sees that Gamzee had gone out and murdered all of his friends.
Now, there are people also saying that Cal is what caused the insanity, which is also a factor. I believe, if my memory serves me right, that he looked into the eyes of cal at one point. The evil one ((because remember, there are two, which means "bad juju" while both exist in the same universe)) and people believe thats what happened.
And then theres the point of Dave sending him ICP. It couldve been a joke, and it couldve just been a silly thing, but Gamzee does have the same stance and look as when he's choking Equius ((could be lazy drawing but i feel like considering how far apart they happened, i doubt it)).
And then, the final point of why he was so violent

Yes they are. Eridan literally killed half the people on the meteor, and feferi- Well she's not violent, but the Condesce, whom is the same blood cast as feferi, is extremely so. Not to mwntion it is said that if the two were to meet, the condesce would most certainly attempt to kill her, as is natural. It is seen when Meenah and Feferi meet. So now that we've disputed that, there are the reasons. I may be 10 years late, but idrc. I wanted to put my piece out there.

Terezi was blinded by vriska and on the day when her dragon mom/dad was hatched is was killed by a meteor(?)
Vriska does'nt mean to be a bitch, and she totally felt wrecked after killing tavros, loosing her guard when terezi killed her(?)
Equius made aradiabot because he was lonely(?) and feels responsible for nepetas death(?)

He has the highest blood for land dwellers on the hemospectrum and that makes him unpredictable and murderous. Also a lot of trolls kill other trolls. Take Vriska for example. She killed A LOT of trolls to feed her lusus. Just thought that should be added :o)

I love how the Homestuck fandom takes a great comic and manages to bring it to life even more.
Gamzee makes me think so much of the whole smeagol and gollum experience. and that explains why i like him so much because i tend to enjoy the more twisted characters because they are not perfect and can't be seen as such. this making me connect to them a bit better.
