have flown both the JS3 and Ventus 3 i must say, that both have the right to exist, but i like the Ventus more. A) it remains the classic style B) im living next to Kirchheim where they are build. JS3 are from South Africa iirc, those dont have that: im at home feeling Nevertheless, the JS3 flys amazing hence why i at least bought an RC Version of it. Personally im still flying my 2cxM and im not really thinking of replacing it soon (and yes i do both rc and manned gliding)
Astir, good glider. I Love to fly it, comfortable and easy to use. Very forgiving in thermals and a very good glider to start. Just from the looks i would prefer the Ventus, i find it more sexy!
In Western Australia there are quite a few Astirs, we call them "Pig Buckets" and the Region competition has a Pig Bucket trophy for the highest placed Astir. There is also a Jam Jar trophy for the highest placed Jantar!
Ventus is a more conservative design than the AS33 or JS3 as Schemppy gliders have always been, but on a weak day or in the workshop I would choose the Ventus over them.
not any more, IGC killed low cost competitive gliding with new handicaps - what you get from an institution headquartered in one of the most expensive towns in the world and run by 'rich white boys'.
How could that be? Regardless of what the price of a new glider is, the prices for used gliders is very low and there is plenty of supply. Never before could you buy more performance for so little $.
1. No the New Winglets are better 2. Yes the Buckathets are ugly 3. I agree 4. I havent flowen this one 5.::)))) 6.Yes the Ventus 3 looks like the Ventus 2
I also like the Astir :D Its not always about the performance of a glider. Sometimes its just the fact that it is easy to fly and forgiving and the fact that I have made really nice experiences with it, so why should I not like it? xD
@@randomguyinanglider they have things in common but for example the elevator is different. In german its called "Pendelleitwerk," which makes the glider a little bit less forgiving. I have to admit that I never flew the cirrus. Maybe one day :)
Honestly if the ventus isn't futurisisc with those damn spice winglets I dunno further. Either wayy it's way more beautiful than the js3 I hate those high located wings...

Best high performance glider ever ?? It is not an high performance glider. It is a very good club glider, safe, confortable, forgiving, but high performance, no way. Contemporary models were much better performance like LS1F, LS4, LS6, Discus, Ventus, DG100, etc...

dotEXCEL that sounds cool! You don’t see many rc jonker sailplanes models, hows the scale js3?
@@haraldschevik5213 my JS3 is from celfix in a 1:2,75
that means i can fly it with 5450 mm or with 6550 mm wingspann
but AS33 is better than both........ :-)

Perfect timing, just came home and got something to watch😁🙌🏼

Great video Simon, I liked this format of giving your opinion on “hot takes” :-)
I like "different"! Nice idea, fun to watch. Keep producing videos like these. oh and by the way, the Fox is the best looking glider of them all! ;-)
Exceeding Vne a little isn’t the big deal, it’s how far beyond Va you’ve gone. That’s the big deal. The JS-3 is the sexier sailplane.
New hot take: Denmark has the best gliding weather, change my mind ;)
Just wait for my next upload ;)
100% right marcus 😉

Australia.....................................................
You haven't been in South Africa yet bro.
JS3 or Ventus ? ...AS-33 !
we require more of these hot takes
and bucket hats are sexy
Clean up your room Simon! ;)
Another hot take: the Std Cirrus is still a fine competitive glider in club class!
frankhiemstra Somehow I understand why you think this is the case, but maybe its just the pilot ;)
not any more, IGC killed low cost competitive gliding with new handicaps - what you get from an institution headquartered in one of the most expensive towns in the world and run by 'rich white boys'.
Turn the brim up and really look cool in a bucket hat!!!
New question, L/D is overrated :) I see people buying gliders and make a decision based on 1 or 2 extra points of L/D quite often.
I thought you meant; water is overrated, drink more beer :P
that is not controversial but common knowledge amongst glider pilots, right? :-) (only after hours though)
Haha, you got me! But just a small correction, not Dutch but Flemish :-D
I don't do IG, but...
My "hot take" is: the cost of new gliders is killing the sport.
John Foster Oh good one!
If that was true one wouldn't have to wait 4 years for a new Ventus 3M ...
Frerk Frommholz Who is buying those Ventus 3s and JS3s? It’s mostly older wealthy/retired men.
How could that be? Regardless of what the price of a new glider is, the prices for used gliders is very low and there is plenty of supply. Never before could you buy more performance for so little $.
go2cloudbase how much does a good fiberglass tandem trainer glider cost, that has a useful load over 400 lbs?

M Regelink Goeie feedback!
Some people say If you fly gliders you are not a real pilot.
WHAT?!
Its the other way round: real pilots don't need an engine!
Non sense ! It is exactly the opposite !
They are the only real pilots, especially those in a Pure glider in contests; no operational and psychological advantage 😇
I knew a guy, who flew fighter jets with the Swiss Airforce, was an MD-11 captain for Swissair and has been an avid glider pilot. Guess what kind of flying he loved most?
