Do you know how David Allan Coe got that sound from his acoustic guitar? Was it run through a phaser pedal or something. Its so different and I love it but can't quite figure out what he does to create it.

It's my favorite! His live recording of Time Off for Bad Behavior at billy Bob's is another that's so much better than the studio recording, but that's only because he replaced "cuss words" with "eff yews" in the first verse lol. This entire recording I think is far better than any studio version he released. I would have loved to hear it done like this in the studio, but the diminished quality does add something special as well too I think.

This is by far my absolute favorite recording of this song. Oddly enough I think it may have even been my first song I heard from DAC, sometime after 2020 😳. He and Waylon are what got me into the outlaws in my 30s (even after being a huge fan of Hank 3 for over a decade at that point).
The film this clip is from is a great watch as well for anyone interested in genuine documentaries and behind the music that isn't that VH1 🐂💩

Seems like it's raining' harder today
The rain must of known I was coming' this way
It ain't easy living on the run
If I pick up my step and pull my belt down tight
I can make it to the border by Saturday night
And it's lonely living on the run
I killed me a woman in Tennessee
I just broke jail and they're gunning for me
I'm on the run, living on the run
I'm on the run, living on the run
My woman wanted more than a man could steal
From the bottom of the decks where I learned to deal
And it got me living on the run
Women love an outlaw, I heard folks say
And I'll be an outlaw 'til my dying day
'Cause it got me (got me) living on the run
I killed me a woman in Tennessee
I just broke jail and they're gunning for me
I'm on the run, living on the run
I'm on the run, living on the run
