Do you know how David Allan Coe got that sound from his acoustic guitar? Was it run through a phaser pedal or something. Its so different and I love it but can't quite figure out what he does to create it.
His local nickname is Ungrateful Fred. Not sure the history behind it. Greg Guymon calls him that sometimes when he introduces him when they play together.
It's my favorite! His live recording of Time Off for Bad Behavior at billy Bob's is another that's so much better than the studio recording, but that's only because he replaced "cuss words" with "eff yews" in the first verse lol. This entire recording I think is far better than any studio version he released. I would have loved to hear it done like this in the studio, but the diminished quality does add something special as well too I think.
This is by far my absolute favorite recording of this song. Oddly enough I think it may have even been my first song I heard from DAC, sometime after 2020 😳. He and Waylon are what got me into the outlaws in my 30s (even after being a huge fan of Hank 3 for over a decade at that point). The film this clip is from is a great watch as well for anyone interested in genuine documentaries and behind the music that isn't that VH1 🐂💩
Seems like it's raining' harder today The rain must of known I was coming' this way It ain't easy living on the run If I pick up my step and pull my belt down tight I can make it to the border by Saturday night And it's lonely living on the run I killed me a woman in Tennessee I just broke jail and they're gunning for me I'm on the run, living on the run I'm on the run, living on the run My woman wanted more than a man could steal From the bottom of the decks where I learned to deal And it got me living on the run Women love an outlaw, I heard folks say And I'll be an outlaw 'til my dying day 'Cause it got me (got me) living on the run I killed me a woman in Tennessee I just broke jail and they're gunning for me I'm on the run, living on the run I'm on the run, living on the run

One of the greatest singer songwriters who ever played country music. D.A.C.
One of the greatest singer songwriters in general.
Breaks my heart he is old now...DAC a great songwriter and singer!!!
an amazing piece of art that shouldn’t be forgotten by anyone
This is good on so many levels. From song structure to lyrics, to the mad reverb sound. DAC is the most underrated outlaw country artist of his time.
If anyone has any unearthed DAC video or audio - please message me.
Unfortunately I don’t , but i’m super happy you redid this tune.
Thank you.
I have his complete 44 album discography, his audio book and the interview he did for midnite blue. If you need anything hit me up
I even have the movie he was in, about the bounty hunter Buckstone County Prison

I love these videos you've posted from the '74 show! Do you know the date, location, or order of the set list?
That’s Ungrateful Fred Spears on the electric guitar. He can play just about any instrument known to man. Very talented.
That whole band us freakin awesome. Diamond Jim Richmond on the steel guitar!!! Who is the drummer and the other dude on guitar.
He shreds the lead here
Whys he “ungrateful”?

Bill Clark on bass.
How have I never heard this version. This is gold!

This show and that suit are amazing. It’s a shame that our country and our music has suffered severely.
This should be in the Smithsonian archives of Country music (the white blues)
aMEN, grade.
I Love DAC. Brings back great childhood memories of my Dad listening to this awesome artist!!!
The best to ever do it
Without smiling as well.

Pure gold!!

Absolutely amazing
Dude is LOADED 💪💪
DAC is a prime example of showmanship and entertainer in one package.
DAC always “had a band that could turn 🐐 piss into ⛽️. “

Me too. Me too.

I'm sure this was a #1 hit song by Women back in 1974.
When women knew their place and men were MEN.
