It really is. I mean, everything that Marty does on RIP is gold, but Lucretia really isn't talked about enough. It's the sleeper solo on that album and pretty much up there with TOS.
one of the best guitar solos of all times, hands down. Rust In Peace is a master class in songwritting and guitar playing, with Lucretia being of the highest point for me.
Marty's melodic solos in megadeth are what addicted me for life. He's not just playing scale runs, he adds the melodies to make it sound good. I've been listening to RiP for 29yrs now. Your an amazing player bro love that frozen ocean ibanez.
Dude, it really doesn't get enough love and gets lost in all the other songs. Definitely one of his top solos next to maybe Lucretia, Tornado of Souls and Symphony of Destruction. Also the solo for Trust.
About the Lucretia solo (which is also my favorite), Marty said on an interview in early 2000s: "This solo [Lucretia] is a great example of my playing. It's got it all. It sounds worked out, but it really wasn't. I follow all the chord changes differently, almost like a jazz player, which I definitely am not. To explain this solo technically would take a page and a half and a music professor. I'm quite pleased with this one."
Lucretia 100% my favourite solo off the Rust in Peace album. Although Tornado's solo is IMPECCABLE. There's something about Lucretia's solo that just hits different! Glad it was included!
Both those solos are unworldly... perfect compositions. However, the one that really gets me is his main solo from Five Magics... it's weird, but fits the song so perfectly.
I love Martys melodic playing and use of exotic scales, big influence on how I've learned how to play guitar leads and I'm not even a metal guy! Love your videos!
Thing with Marty is his sound is ridiculously unique and powerful. A lot of people can shred, but very few can really extract value out of every note. I've posted on other channels on my theory for why his notes just "sound better" than other guitarists. Has to do with his unique picking form, his focus on left hand mastery vs too much obsession over the right hand, etc. Lucretia is one of the greatest solos of all time. It's ridiculous how that solo can sound fresh no matter how many times I listen to it. It is ridiculously creative, unorthodox, but also harmonizing and pleasing to the ear. I would actually call that solo a "perfect" solo in the sense that it cannot be improved. It is literal perfection in that song. It strikes the right balance of technique, harmony, mood/ambiance, pace/speed, timing, etc.
I discovered his playing on Rust in Peace and fell in love. I went out and got the Cacophony stuff and his instructional. Most of my friends were into grunge, which I dug but Marty's playing always won out. I still feel the same way about his playing. Pure magic.
I always said that IMO Scenes is one of the best instrumental albums. Marty always puts the melody before the technique and that's whats made him so incredibly awesome
Your videos have been absolute gold lately! Not that the weren't before but now they really have your stamp on them. Love ya man and its been pleasure following you. Let's have many laughs and many more brilliant and entertaining videos to come
My favourite Marty Friedman song will always be "tears of an angel" from the album "future addict". Such emotionally charged melodies create an indescribable response from my soul.
Scenes is one of my favorite albums of all time and it seems almost no one knows about it. It certainly turned my ear when it came out. Glad to see some love here for it.
Absolute shout out to anything from the Scenes album! My friend had that on tape in 1995, and I remember hearing it in his house over nightfall. It is a perfect album after sunset, the atmosphere, cinematic landscapes it paints into the mind. The opening "Tibet/Angel" then leading into Valley Of Eternity is incredible. I loved seeing a snippet of "Valley" here.
His "Picture" from the "Bad D.N.A." album is probably one of my favourite songs of all time. But i love everything he do. What a legend. Simply the best.
It has to be Friedman for me - he inspired me quite a lot in his arpeggio playing. PS: Been using the Polychrome DSP as of late too, awesome plugin - check out the presets I have used in my latest video :)
My first obsession with a guitar player was Kirk Hammett when I first got into my own taste of music that hit me, metal. Then it was zakk Wylde for a good while for me. But about 8years ago I rediscovered Marty Friedman because I got back into Megadeth. Rust in peace. Then I discovered all his solo albums and appearances which are all amazing except for a choice few for me, my own personal taste. Seem Marty live up close and personal and it was incredible. Amazing performer, and amazing energy all the time. Humble and nice guy. Very inspirational. We love you Marty!
The thing about Marty’s Lucretia solo is that on its own, it’s a fucking masterpiece. But when combined with Dave’s immediately afterwards, it just sounds so much better. Everything great about those two as guitarists comes on full display with Lucretia’s solos and it’s one of my favorite songs because of it.
Scenes might be my favorite album It was awesome to watch Marty and Kiko play the Countdown to Extinction solo together 🥹 I used to listen to their solo albums A LOT when I got into Megadeth.
I may personally have Dimebag, Jason Becker or Trey Azagthoth as my favorite guitarists of all time. But Marty has this thing where he really LOVES those melodic bends, I can tell you're trying your damndest to play them hahah (I would be too) if it's anything that I would say makes Marty equal to the favorites of mine I mentioned it's his ability to make such melodically beautiful compositions, and he always throws in some out of tune into in tune bends at all the right places and doesn't skip an opportunity to throw it in either. His shreddy licks are awesome as well, when he actually wants to he can go super shred mode and just absolutely killing machine mode on the guitar but the most impressive part is how well he incorporates fast shredding with melodic playing. My personal favorite Marty Friedman song is actually the LIVE version on his official channel of "Whiteworm" it just sounds a lot better for some reason in that live version than the studio one does to me and the fact it's so high quality and mixed to perfection and not to mention Marty's playing on there is just absolutely magnificent it's just a 4 minute ride of epicness.
imo I still feel like his solo work is extremely underrated. Most videos that talk about him only mention his Megadeth stuff and some of his earlier work. All his more modern albums are equally as good if not better. Tracks like Undertow, Be, Whiteworm, Lovesorrow, For A Friend etc. really demonstrates his complete mastery of guitar and music in general
Marty is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, period. Very few guitarists have a unique sound whereby you can instantly tell it's them from their playing. Marty's combination of Gypsy Jazz style picking technique and unique vibrato give this unique sound where he can really squeeze every drop of value from every note. Literally every single solo is just magic to the ear. Fast runs are intricately woven into slower, exotic passages. He just knows how to play with tempo, scales, timing, and vibrato like no other guitarist does. Listen to some of his solo work too like the Valley of Eternity or Undertow. I sometimes just listen to those on repeat for hours and I wouldn't be able to do that with any other shredder.
This was some of your most impressive playing ever, awesome to see you play your heart out! You can feel the admiration for the legend that is Marty in the care you put into learning all this!
‘Ello, Bradlington Hallsworth! Would you fancy not simply a cup of tea, but also additional wah-wah shenanigans videos? Bloody fantastic idea for content, personally speaking, me old chap. At least an idea worthy of the ‘ol pipe in the chair and ponder for a while.
I listened to scenes for the first time a week ago and it is mind blowingly good. Top to bottom belters. I was so glad to see Valley oF eternity make the list of awesome solos. The more of mr friedman I listen to the hight he moves up my list of beasts.
Excellent work, Lucretia and Poison was the Cure have always been two of my favorite solos of all time. Skin of my Teeth I think is the only one I could see missing from this medley 🤙🤙🤙
Marty is a complete freak in metal. He introduced tons of new motifs and ideas for aspiring shredder guitarists, amd had a knack for melody, expression, and timing that is most unique!
Bro your an incredible guitarist it takes so much to do marty justice, keep up the amazing videos, and where did you get that rust in peace poster from? I need to annoy my mum with more
I enjoyed Marty’s performance special guest for MEGADETH concert at Budokan Tokyo in Japan!! I will never forget that moment!! And I am so happy to watch your RUclips channel.
The production quality of this video is really nice, and obviously the playing is awesome. I have never paid a lot of attention to who played what on different Megadeth songs, so it's cool to hear all these Marty solos and understand how interesting his playing is.
Now, great video! What can I add.... I'm not a guitarist but I record my guitarist in our projects. Up to now, to make the guitar sound good was really hard (we're ITB mainly). With McRocklin Suite it's a breeze and, damn, it sounds gorgeous! Anyway, you're great!
My alltime favorite guitarist is Alexi " WildChild " Laiho. He was my teenage idol and still my most favorite and dear to my heart. Rest in Peace and Power Alexi
as a boomer who only ever uses amps and microphones... how do I do record using the PolyChrome DSP McRocklin Suite? Do I need another piece of software?
Dude, I got the notification for the videos that got blocked and I was like "YEAH ME TOO! I'VE BEEN WAITING MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THIS!" and then the videos were gone. But I also got a ticket and watched the livestream and it was rad. Marty is a unique and special guitarist.
Dude, your guitar chops keep sounding better! Have you ever made a video about your DAW/plugin setup? I'd be interested to see what your preferences are. Your music room is as chaotic as mine, thought maybe you could shed some light on how you get your shit to work! haha
Was just listening to his solo work. I haven't had the chance to listen to well recognized rock and metal guitar legends and I'd still be quite happy to say Marty is one of the bests! I don't know what tops his work!
Marty is my favorite metal guitarrist, Rust in Peace is my favorite metal album of all time, so yeah, I see you Bradley. :) (And me too, I started liking metal in early 2000 with being obssesed with Maiden until I discovered Rust in Peace. I wonder if this is a pattern. I oserved over the decades that folks that first got into Iron Maiden (and not Metallica, for example) then fell in love with more heavy stuff via Megadeth/Rust in Peace tend to be Megadeth fan for life. I wonder if maybe this a more common metal journey for metalheads that are not Americans, like you and me.)
I hate trying to answer questions like this, but we all know that's why they're asked. I love Dimebag for different reasons, more for his overall personality and persona and how he was in "tune" with everything he was doing regarding stagecraft and performing(how he could play flawlessly whilst being so drunk is beyond me). Kirk wrote some extremely memorable leads back in the day, but he never really stepped out of the "box" or tried to improve, only got worse over time. Marty is one of those guitarists who has an incredibly deep knowledge of theory, but the best part is that he never let the knowledge overtake his creativity, which is something I think a lot of great technical players struggle to do imo. So many guitatists out there rely too much on theory and end up losing their sense of musicality. Valley of Eternity is prob my new fav track of his, I'm an idiot for sleeping on Scenes for so many years. Also whatever profile you used sounded great for Lucretia, even through my phone👌
Crazy how good the McRocklin Suite plugin is! 🔥 Had the pleasure recently of performing a guest solo on the McRocklin & Hutch track "Rude" and all the guitar tracks were recorded using just that one plugin!! Highly recommend checking that track out if you're interested in how the plugin sounds sitting in a professional mix 🎸🔌💯
Can anyone explain the “studying the harmonies” part of the Lucretia solo? Idk much about harmonies so can anybody explain what we can learn by studying it?
I’m so glad someone is finally talking about how awesome the Lucretia solo is!!!
It really is. I mean, everything that Marty does on RIP is gold, but Lucretia really isn't talked about enough. It's the sleeper solo on that album and pretty much up there with TOS.
You mean, BOTH solos. I love the hell out of Marty Friedman but Dave's solo was freakin' great too.
The Lucretia riff is sexy as fuck by itself. Amazing
Its amazing I just cant listen to the remastered lyrics. yuck
one of the best guitar solos of all times, hands down.
Your an amazing player bro love that frozen ocean ibanez.
yeah I love the blue with that maple fretboard, sadly not a combo you see often on cheaper guitars
The Killing Road is another insane Marty solo that doesn't seem to get talked about a lot.
Love this solo
Dude, it really doesn't get enough love and gets lost in all the other songs. Definitely one of his top solos next to maybe Lucretia, Tornado of Souls and Symphony of Destruction. Also the solo for Trust.
Gives me chills every fucking time
Killing Road and Victory, I feel like Youthanasia is somewhat underrated
Top 5 solo for sure. Really shows off how Marty uses rhythms in such interesting ways, which does not get talked about enough.
About the Lucretia solo (which is also my favorite), Marty said on an interview in early 2000s: "This solo [Lucretia] is a great example of my playing. It's got it all. To explain this solo technically would take a page and a half and a music professor. I'm quite pleased with this one."
My favorite solo too. People keep raving about the Tornado of Souls solo (which is still an amazing solo), but the Lucretia solo is so overlooked
What a legend! And thanks for checking out PolyChrome DSP glad you’re enjoying it!! 🤟🏻
Thomas rules man, he takes the time to respond to my dumbest of questions, not like that sweepman cunt. HAHA jk beans love ya
Farty meadman is an excellent guitarist
he should take Kirk Hammett's place in Metallica
@@Timewalker13 You mean Ham Kirkett's place in MetallicA
@@Gielderst yes
Mate dustane too
Fartman will never be forgotten 🤘
Lucretia 100% my favourite solo off the Rust in Peace album. Although Tornado's solo is IMPECCABLE. There's something about Lucretia's solo that just hits different! Glad it was included!
Was waitin for tornado. ????
Be like sum1 puttin together a best monty python sketch and leavin out dead parrot...

plus the "rhythm guitar" riffs on Lucretia are the best

I love Marty Friedman. Adored his work the most on Five Magics and Hangar 18
Five Magics is insanely good! THAT'S Megadeth's most underrated song.
@@eccehomer8182 check out his work from Japan... A Class!
Yeah five magics is a baller song
also hus work in hanger is god tier

I listen to most music with my ears. But Marty's stuff goes directly to the heart 💔
Marty is a Guitar wizard that creates his own source of unparalleled magic
Valley of eternity. THANK YOU!
I always said that IMO Scenes is one of the best instrumental albums.
Marty always puts the melody before the technique and that's whats made him so incredibly awesome

3:49 Lucretia solo is underrated as hell but so is that riff behind the solos. Such a beautiful sounding riff.
Look through the comments... it's not underrated at all (and rightly so). If you want underrated how about his main solo on Five Magics?

The irony is his hatred of arpeggios may be the greatest Marty mystery.
Marty's solo albums are my favorite. Scenes and introduction are really cool, the 2018 inferno was pure metal madness
My first obsession with a guitar player was Kirk Hammett when I first got into my own taste of music that hit me, metal. Then it was zakk Wylde for a good while for me. Really liked how you added your thoughts throughout the solos as captions!

I kinda missed the old Cacophony solos, though...

My absolute favorite Marty Friedman solo is Skin O’ My Teeth. Gets the blood pumping like no other!! The last section is just too cool.
The outro solo to 'Valley of Eternity' is God tier. Marty is another level
Dude your energy is off the chart. I feel the sincere admiration you have for the material as you're playing these licks. Respect!
He wrote some iconic solos in Megadeth but my absolute favorite of his is Forbidden city followed by Dragons mistress and Thunder March.
If you haven't heard it, look up the song he did for Sonic and the Black Knight, With Me.
The solo of the killing road from youthanasia Is amazing too, Marty is a amazing lead artist, my choise for metal lead guitarrist Is Andy laroque!
Some of my favorite solos. You do such a great job on all of these.

Oh man, I love the album Dragon's Kiss...haven't heard stuff off it for years.
what blue ibanez is this????? i can't seem to find it im struggling
Had to rewind to watch your Lucretia solo at least 3 times, those solos are timeless and to think they came out un the 80s is crazy
Encore une superbe vidéo ! Par contre pourquoi ya pas Tornado of Souls ?
God bless you man
What is the tattoo in your rigth hand? I remember saw this tattoo a one girl before.

Marty Friedman is my absolute favorite!!
What are some of your favorite presets on polychrome?
Something I really really like about Friedman is how he aims more to melodyc phrasing rather than mindless shredding.
Hallsy you bloody legend, beaut vid, keep cranking them out👍
His solos are insanely tasty🤩🤩 love them so much
I rarely comment, but this is absolutely amazing. That accuracy and feeling! Enjoyed it so much! Thanks.
What string gauge do you use?
Bro, that SAUCE you put on the Lucretia solo was fantastic. So fucking good.
Great job Bradley!!! Scenes is my favourite album from Marty.
