      This is a complicated subject since I just pulled my kids from the DODEA school and am now homeschooling them 😬 I'll see what I can manage to do without having the community come after me.

      It was a high of 85 today then hailed and cooled off by like 20 degrees...so it can be tough to know what to pack 🤣

    I’m heading over very soon… Did it take you along time to get a house?

    • @FamilyInRealLife
      @FamilyInRealLife  2 года назад +1

      We found our house on the very first day we were able to leave the lodge (quarantine days). We had it verified by housing 4 days later but what took forever was waiting on the contract signing and inspection. That was about 3 weeks of waiting on appointments. If you look at our housing video I explain the full timeline there :)

    How important is knowing french there in mons?

    • @FamilyInRealLife
      @FamilyInRealLife  Год назад +1

      That's tough. I know French and barely use it, but when I do it gets us pretty far. Like last week talking to my landlord who only speaks French, very helpful (and my listening comprehension is far superior to my speaking). However, my husband and 2 youngest children speak maybe 4 phrases and understand almost nothing (usually pointing and context clues) and they've been fine and get by without issues. In this day and age, if you're truly stuck Google can help. Speaking helps me feel more comfortable and I get to know the locals
      better, it makes them happier to help in general when anyone makes an attempt let alone can communicate with them semi-coherently (where I credit my French...I had 2 years of college, a study abroad, a year teaching in the kindergarten and I still don't feel as confident as other Americans who had no gap in their speaking skills or Europeans who perfectly speak multiple languages).
