Lebanon was conquered by the Muslim caliphate during the reign of the second Rashidun caliph, Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab around 636-637 AD in the 7th century. This conquest was part of the larger Muslim expansion that followed the decisive victory over the Byzantine Empire at the Battle of Yarmouk in 636 AD. Lebanon was integrated into the province of Syria (Bilad al-Sham) within the caliphate and remained part of the Islamic world for centuries, though local Christian and other religious communities continued to exist alongside Muslim populations.
It was part of Lebanese Christians who might have chosen Islamic faith over Christianity. No one was forced. Just as nations at one time chose Christianity over other faiths.
