I imagine this music over a hauntingly liminal and scenic image. It’s just the break of dawn in Green Hill Zone. The sun rises over the pixelized mountains in the background, casting a orangish-pink tint over the land and across the sky. We’re at the iconic beginning segment of Act 1, with the 3 rings, the semisolid with the 10-ring monitor on top of it, the palm tree with a yellow spring hidden in its leaves, and the pitch black silhouette of the Motobug which hangs around this section of the stage. The palm trees gently sway in the soft wind, the cool, early morning briskness of which you can almost feel sweeping past your face. The rings rotate around and around in place, and the Motobug does just what Robotnik’s limited programming of the machine allows it to do: move back and fourth, endlessly, aimlessly, patiently waiting for when Sonic arrives to bust it open and free the Flicky that it encapsulates within it. Of course, Sonic himself is nowhere to be found, as he hasn’t began his day yet. It’s still very early after all, and even the fastest thing alive needs his beauty rest. As I imagine this song against this powerful image, a somber feeling washes over me. As if…the world of Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis is this fantastical world, which once invoked a feeling of intrigue and adventurousness back in 1991, but now, just sits here, still and empty, that feeling never to quite be replicated, at least not with that same impact, ever again. This song is great, especially the light percussion, it's PERFECT. However, that pixel art is FANTASTIC, especially how Sonic moves, fits the vibe perfectly. Can't wait for the rest of these. =D
Aight I know this comment is over a year old but this just bothered me so much for no real reason That is not pixel art. That's just regular full-scale art that's been scaled down really badly. And I'm telling you as an actual pixel artist that, as pixel art, it is in no way "fantastic". In no way does it respect real pixel art limitations and honestly looks abysmal to me lmao /lh
Well, I looked at it and it looked perfect for a sprite animation but nobody (At least to my knowledge) has done anything with that particular piece of art.
