It’s not just the cost of this build, it’s the quality and good taste in the build for me!
That’s a lot of equipment, and appreciate how it all works in sync. Functionality and aesthetically on point!
Y'all thought of everything!! Every single part is so intentional and tasteful. Crossing my fingers that Athena is my off grid camping, hiking, trail running HQ. My pit mix is crossing his paws too :).
About the only thing I can think of that would have been nice is an awning on the passenger side of the rig. I get that she is a tall girl, but still would be nice. 20k can fix that though. I noticed the handle delete in favor of the bunk racks. Will the handle come with the van? Some of us do not have little ones and the handle is a nice safety feature when it is wet outside and someone needs to climb in. Again if not, 20k fixes that. As it stands, I would say that she is a great build. I will just have to figure out a great name to go with her when I win the van.

I do hope I win this van so bad it is the perfect living space for me because I'm getting kicked out of my house soon and I'm still finishing my online college class so this is amazing I've done so much prepping for the nomad van life. By winning this van I could live without fear of being homeless.

Roof A/C, but is there a heater?

What heater does it have?
We spoke too soon here. The van itself has Heat, but we don't have a separate heating system. Depending on who wins and their needs, its easy to install a diesel heater under the front passenger seat. When building this van (which started over a year ago) we designed it to be more of a spring, summer, fall adventure rig (thus the AC Unit). Getting a portable diesel heater is another easy option to keep you warm on the slopes.
Beautiful build but for that kind of money I need the essentials - a toilet and shower. I am not one to be digging holes or going to public bathrooms every time I need to go. I do understand, however, that for that the extended 170 is a better option to include the toilet and shower. I even take an outside shower but toilet is a must.
It has an outside shower in the back, and we're going to be adding a toilet as well!

Quick question, why didn’t you guys get the owl tire ladder combo for the back to save 600$ instead of getting a seperate side ladder and separate tire back holder. The driving would be easier and you could instead use the $600 for an owl wall mount for future storage on the back.
Second question, why didn’t you guys get a flat sink instead of the ceramic one where you could have a cutting board for the flat sink and it would create more table space.
Third question, why not install a water tight marine outlet by the sliding door, and back door? It would be useful in for outdoor camping.
Fourth question, when analyzing the roof dimensions, ac, and fan. There wasn’t enough room for almost any square solar panels. Did the person who positioned the ac and fan make that intentional? Alternatively there is one solar panel 100w 12v on Amazon that was called slim you could fit 6 panels inside the roof rack along side the current position of the ac and fan. Why not install 6 of the slim 100 watt solar panels for a total of 600 watts instead of having just 200 watts total? It would allow you to remove the need for a propane water heater. Your battery charger would need to be upgraded to the next tier though. But that’s a very minor expense from renology. Basically my question is who messed up when installing the ac and fan placement? Or why not just install the slim 100w solar panels?
What's up @senchyn123! Thank you for the awesome questions. Let me see if I can get to the all:
- I personally don't like the tire/latter combo on the back of vans. Makes it super sketch getting up and down. If someone wants to add a RTT to the top of this, a side latter is the way to go. Also, with this owl vans side latter, mounting surfboards or other gear to the side becomes really easy.
-The farm house sink was more for aesthetics and with the counter top behind you, you still have a lot of working space when cooking. However, I do see the value in a flat sink.
-We have an outlet at the back of the van in the garage area, and the other outlets are close enough to the door that it isn't an issue. Running more electrical through the island wasn't something we wanted to do based on the storage area underneath it.
-With limited real estate on the top of the roof , and 460 Amp Hours of lithium-ion battery storage, anything over 200W of solar on the roof is overkill. Unless you're running the AC full blast 24 hours a day of course. After taking this van to the desert and some of our production shoots, the battery hasn't gone below 60% even running the AC all day. And with the 3000W inverter, it charges up quickly when driving. I like the idea of the slim panels though. Will look into that. for future builds!
At the end of the day, we tried our best to get this van as awesome as possible and definitely broke the budget. But as they say, no build is ever really complete! The $20,000 that comes with the van would be more than enough to mod it out even more!
