Propably best Polish team ever!!! 2 Olympic medals and 3rd place in World Cup 1974 ,almost qualification to Euro 76!Seriously between 72-76 my hommies scares everyone
Yes, they had indeed a golden generation and I guess it must have been extemely hard for them watching their little neighbours Czechoslowakia winning a big trophy after kicking out England, the USSR, the Dutch and finally West Germany.
For every lunatic out there who is saying that with Van Beveren would have won the World Cup in 1974 (instead of Jongbloed).....look at this match. Van Beveren was no player for the off side tactics that the Dutch played. Jongbloed was the perfect keeper for this play with his exceptional field play and defence organizing skills.
Oddly enough, probably the strongest Netherlands team from the 1970s period. Unfortunately, classic in-fighting (van Beveren and van der Kujilen from PSV were allegedly frozen out on account of a feud with Cruyff and Neeskens) together with a coach without the authority of Michels or Happel, meant that in spite of getting out of this absolute stinker of a qualifying group, they'd eventually lose their minds against Czechoslovakia (and Clive Thomas!) in the semi-final. They ought to have got the trophy they deserved in this campaign, but shot themselves in the foot to a greater extent than in the World Cups either side of Euro 76.
Both van Beveren and van der Kuilen should have been in the team. They were great. Guess people whose first name is Johan were causing problems (which is also my first name 😄).
Why van der Kujlien didn't play at 1978 World Cup (instead of Cruyff and Van Hanegem who both were out) ? He just won UEFA cup with PSV month before and was in great form. Was he still in feud with Neskens (and some other players) or he just give up on international career at that point? It seems he was that missing piece of puzzle for 1978 win. He and Rensenbrink together woud have been great.
@@ivankamarelj3542we wouldn't ever have an answer to that. The 22 selected for WC 78 featured somewhat weird names. Van Hanegem wanted more money. Geels choose not to go, maybe for political reasons. Kist and Peters didn't made it. The result was a lack of strikers and abundance of wingers, plus lack of a fine "passer of the ball" like Van Hanegem or Cruyff.
Poland 4 Netherlands 1: The Poles had thoroughly studied the offside tactic that the Dutch defense used to employ... and broke it into a thousand pieces. Three of Poland's goals and some other play that could also have been a goal ((the final triangulation between Lato, Szarmach and Deyna that the latter cannot complete) showed the brilliant approach that the Polish coach Kazimierz Gorski had made of the match, and that it was essentially based in breaking speed the advanced defense of the Dutch.

But a goalkeeper needs to get down and make saves with his hands.
Cruijff...🥰🥰

Completely agree.

A real group of death with Finland cursing their luck. A shame 2 great nations missed out on the European Championships as a result.
Well, in fact only 4 nations could finally qualify and therefore it was totally normal that many great nations missed out the Euro back at that time.
The Netherlands best team in 70s

Mr Kazimierz Górski is a Godfather of Polish Football
@@dawidklucz849 Without a doubt, he made Poland one of the best teams of the 1970s.

@@dawidklucz849 Yes, but the Poland of the 1982 World Cup was no longer as good as it was in the 1970s.
Excellent observation, good job.Your analysys are spot on
But then it was in 1988 we got the price we deserved
Now we only need to win the WC one day

Legendary team the Dutch
💯👍
Netherlands 74. Road to world cup in Germany??? Please...
Damn, we got demolished by Poland.
And they got demolished by you in the return leg.
