To get your PS5 controller to work with your PlayStation 4 you first need to connect it up by Bluetooth I think you hold the PS button down and hold the create button down at the same time then you go to your Bluetooth settings on your console and connect it
I mean I think it's a good idea if you get both versions of the color that way you and your friends or brother could play together like Call of Duty or whatever or if the white controller is charging you always have a backup one
