duke was the backbone of the rocky franchise.every man needs a duke in his life
i love Duke. He is the only person that never doubted Rocky. Mick did (in Rocky 3), Adrian did (earlier in the film) and Apollo did (in Rocky 1 and 2) but Duke knew how tough Rocky was ever since he saw him punch that dead cow on the TV.
In Rocky 6, when everyone is laughing at Rocky, he was quick to shut everyone up by saying "there is always a puncher's chance." during the pre fight press conference.

Rocky lost his trainer Mickey, who was like a father. Duke lost his champion boxer and protege Apollo, who was like a son. Duke then becomes Rocky’s trainer and Rocky becomes Duke’s champion. They filled each other’s void. Two men who were once enemies to each other, now join forces to defeat the common enemy Drago. I love Rocky IV!
The only person that can lay claim to have been a manager for both Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa.
Tony managed Apollo while Mickey managed Rocky. Rest in peace tony burton.

My dad passed away suddenly a couple months ago. He was 51. Him and I used to love watching Rocky together, it was our thing. Duke’s words ring truer than ever, that when my dad died, a part of me died. But I need to live to keep his spirit alive. Thanks Duke.
I’m sorry for your loss. These words resonated to me when my dad died, it’s why I decided to name my son Apollo.

When Duke told Apollo in Rocky 2 that we don't need a man like that in our lives to let it go was probably one of my favorite scenes in the series....RIP Carl Weathers

Duke lost his Son / Fighter , Duke always warned Apollo we all need a Duke in our lives not a yes man.
Would love to see Apollo wife talk with him after he lost the second fight I bet she berated him maybe threatened to Divorce e an really make him think.

This was the best pairing. Apollo being trained by Mickey could've worked, maybe it would've been a disaster, but we'll never know.
But Rocky and Duke were a magnificent team against Ivan Drago and Mason Dixon. At this point in his decorated career Rocky didn't simply need a trainer pushing his buttons, but who knew how to play the mental game as well.
Dude was one of the underrated ones in the Rocky franchise but he was the ONLY one that never doubted Rocky ever. That's loyalty.

Duke knew Rocky could do it. This was the man who told Apollo that he beat Rocky like he never saw anyone get beat before and the man kept coming after him.
