  • People lie about being Native American all the time - on college applications, on job applications, in casual conversation. But how do "Pretendians" hurt real Indigenous people and communities? And what does all that mean for people who aren't quite sure if they're claiming or reclaiming?

Iron Eyes Cody, Sacheen Littlefeather, Buffy Sainte-Marie, & entire group of white people in Vermont who have been pretending to be Abenaki, led by a white man named Don Stevens. But because it is ultra intersectional and
Inclusive Vermont, no one can ever question anyone’s “identity” without being shunned and cancelled.
I have a 1st cousin who is a race-shifting pretendian, who moved to California where she had a lucrative career as a “native”
marine biologist. Without a single native ancestor or smidgeon of native DNA.

Buffy Sainte-Marie initially fabricated the adoption story as a way to spite her white family. Apparently, her motivation was that she wasn't feeling special enough as an entitled Italian-American middle-class girl. Maybe she was ashamed that her parents were so "ordinary", so "unremarkable". She defamed and intimidated her own brother into silence!
But nowadays, with DNA testing readily available, if she ever wanted to come clean and ask for forgiveness while both she and her brother are still alive, a DNA test will easily show that she and her brother are in fact full biological siblings and that they do indeed share the same set of biological parents.

The main problem is people lying to get a job or further that career. This is absolutely rampant!

I am maybe 1/16th Indian! Does that make me an Indian? Absolutely not! I am a White man! Just because you are slightly something, doesn't qualify you to be that thing/person etc.!

It’s still part of your identity. This may be how it resonates with you, but for me I see it as “ no matter how much milk do you put in the coffee, it’s still coffee” the New Zealand Maori have this way of looking at it aswell
I myself am a bunch of races and identify with and as them all equally

@@rogerheisler2554 That's true, even when someone is a mix of races, generally they're more one than the others.

I can tell you why in my case how I was not identified as Native on a census, first of all I’m Native and I don’t participate in the census due to my strong mistrust of government. 😂
No but for real I am Cheyenne River/Oglala Lakota.

@@sr2291 The 'spirits' should have been talking BEFORE your bloodline was washed out. What would be the point in waiting until it was too late? Again, I'm going to emphasize that this poses an issue when people can no longer identify you AFTER generations of purposely making the decision to abandon the genetic traits that make you uniquely, wonderfully you ("You" being in the general, of course.) in favor of those who've oppressed you. Now, what it looks like is white people claiming to be Indian complaining about white people claiming to be Indian--- and no one can tell the difference. What are the spirits saying that's going to help that kind of craziness and heal the damage done on every level??

@@HSR-bk5qbThere are other indigenous groups around the world other than Native Americans.

    • @sr2291
      @sr2291 9 месяцев назад

@HSR-bk5qb Because everyone concentrates only on what is happening on the North American continent. And my grandparents are not from here. Some are not from Europe. I grew up here and felt very isolated in this Mid to Northern European Christian place.

My experience with the indigenous identity police (IIP):
Me: I am partly of Cherokee Ethnicity
    IIP: Bro you're white!
    Me: Never claimed I wasn't.
IIP: How do you know you are of Cherokee ethnicity?
    Me: My Family told me.
IIP: Bro, your great great grandma was a "Cherokee Princess"
Me: *Uses Google* I found my great-great-grandma on the Dawes rolls
IIP: Oh its just a coincidental name.
Me: I found her siblings, cousins, father, uncle, and grandma on the Dawes rolls.
IIP: Oh they're just "five-dollar indians."
Me: It says Cherokee by Blood right there on the rolls, and I built a family tree going back nine generations to validate it.
IIP: But your pure-blood ancestors were 8 generations ago!
Me: Sure, but I am related to a number of important people (including five Chiefs) in the history of the Cherokee Nation, and am distantly related to Will Rogers.
IIP: But you have no family or cultural ties!
Me: My great-grandparents moved from OK to Cali during the Depression for a better life, and I grew up in PA, but I would like to learn more about my culture.
IIP: YOU ARE NOT AN ENROLLED CITIZEN!
Me: Ok, I applied for enrollment. Application pending. Happy Now?
IIP: The Cherokee are too white to be real Native anyway!
You can't win with these people.
