- Here's a look at a Bass that's a little out of this world! 👽🛸
The 'Alien' was manufactured by Hondo in the 1980s and is similar in design to Steinberger instruments and 'The Duke' model by Kramer. It is a 31" shortscale Bass with a minimalistic, 'travel sized' body and most notably a headless neck. The neck also features a layer of aluminium that runs throughout, meaning there is no trussrod 🎸 The pickup configuration consists of two Jazz Bass pickups with a coil split; providing tonal variety between the single coil and humbucker sounds

We bought one from a customer a couple years back. It was a hot mess. The pickup was really bad, the switch was also disconnected the neck was peeling and really sharp. I added an EMG 35TX to it. What a great bass. We have removed the finish off the back of the neck to expose a cool aluminum/wood combination. It's coming together nicely and will be debuted soon.

I have a red one that is unbadged (as apparently is common) My pickups were falling apart and I replaced them, replaced the tuners and knobs, rewired per the Duke wiring diagram.
Great to hear you got it back up and running! 😄🛠🎸 they're great, playable Basses 😎 even if the missing headstock does throw me off a little! 😂
i'm going to make one. got the wood figured out but i didn't know about short scale length. seems i can go 29 to 31 instead of 34 so it will really help when i do the tuners. i like the idea of using normal machine head tuners instead of those knurled thumb screw things.

This bass played really nicely and had a great sound, not to mention I think it looks super cool 😎 I think every band should have one! 🎸
