- Today we first drop into the old Garfield Waterwheel foundations before heading off to destination for the day. The area has a large open cut mining and extremely deep mine shafts. In the past I have had great success with this area and hoping that it keeps producing.

Sadie picks up the shine again killer coil 👍🍀⛏
Not wrong, there a great little coil for picking up the little nugget.
Cheers Pete
Cool little golden "shot" pieces. Thank you for sharing your adventures
It was funny finding round gold, lucky I didn't mistake it for lead shot. Cheers
@@PetesGoldAdventures I've found a couple of round bits the size of lead shot while panning. Plenty of lead shot looks like dirty gold while detecting though
Love the historical aspect, cheers
Castlemaine is a very historical and interesting place, I'll feature another area when I head back down there.
Thanks for watching.
Cheers, Pete
Love ya work Pete it's not all about the gold its the adventures it takes you on good luck.cheers.
Thanks, Its great therapy wandering around the bush and finding a nugget or two is a bonus.
Cheers, Pete
Good stuff ,the old blokes worked hard.Keep up the top videos.
Thanks Paul, they sure did quartz mining would have been hard going, do or die back then.
Cheers, Pete
Unbelievable how much work was done and the wheel house was massive hey.
Some really nice finds as well, soon u will have enough round small nuggets to make a shotgun shell. Great video thx 4 sharing 👍
That was only a portion of the reef workings, it would go for another 100m along the ridge line, just beside where the 3rd nugget was found there is some very very deep shafts.
Cheers, Pete
At the 4 minute mark, it reminded me of a free-range chicken since it was double speed. lol
Yeah, we speed up the boring parts to get to the good parts faster, thanks for watching.
Cheers, Pete
Thanks mate!
Been finding a lot of patches around Chewton lately. Got a ripper patch on quartz hill with about 18 species and 8 reefy subgrammers that’s only gonna get better once I borrow the big comealong from work.
It's a good area to prospect, I've had many a good session down there. The come along sounds drastic, got some big material to move.
Cheers, Pete
So while we're in lockdown you're out having fun!
Someone has to put up video's to entertain you while your in lockdown. Your off the chain at midnight tonight, so get out and get some shiney stuff.
Cheers, Pete
@@PetesGoldAdventures Pete I don't think there is much left., I went to Chewton, Vaughan and Campbells Creek area .... all I got was a bunch of rusty nails! The creek crossing was too high and wide for my old 86 Hiace. Some tracks at Chewton we too muddy for me to try. I think I'll try elsewhere from no won, cheers, Rod
It's still out there and the areas you have prospected are good. What machine and coil are you using? How have you gone in the past?
Cheers, Pete
@@PetesGoldAdventures Pete, I have a Garrett 400, that I now cal the Rusty Nail Detector, everywhere I went there were old holes and other folk, I found lead, nails, bullets, mineralised rocks. The old diggings are full of junk. Whilst new to this It's not too hard to conclude most of the pickings are already gone in the Castlemaine area, I will try Bendigo and Ballarat in the near future. Thanks for your reply!
Right o, the Garrett might be holding you back a little, not sure how sensitive they are, the best cheapest gold finding detector is the Gold Monster.
If you are heading to Bendigo email me and I'll take you out and test that Garrett on proven ground and you can give a Gold Monster a run.
Cheers, Pete
Amazing how much dirt the old timers could move. Thanks Pete
There is a lot of open cut reef mining around here, it's amazing how much ground they moved, must have been worth it, most of the time.
Cheers, Pete
Great morning out and learnt plenty. Thanks again Pete. 👍
No worries Shane glad you enjoyed it, we'll catch up soon and you can show me how that 6000 performs.
Cheers, Pete

The Sadie strikes again, I have been all over that area along with many other and there is still some nuggets to be found. Thanks for watching.
Cheers, Pete
Nice history commentary and wtg on the gold good job mate
Cheers for that, it's a remarkable piece of history and engineering for the gold rush era.
Finally I've been waiting for somebody to find some old structures like that from the earlier mining days I've watched a lot of channels from Australia and I haven't seen much like this awesome dude keep up the good work I hope to see more like that really dig in the history on things 👍🤟✅
Thanks Jeremy, Castlemaine goldfields has some great mining era structures, it appears a few people enjoy that content so I'll feature more in future videos.
Cheers, Pete
