Actually the MV is inspired in a poem called "The Astronaut's Whale". It talks about how a whale wasn't feeling like he belonged to the sea and how he wanted to see the stars and sun, then he met the astronaut. They quickly became friends and then decided to go to the space in the astronaut's rocket, and they were happy... until they started to feel homesickness and realized that the place were they really belong to was the sea and mainland, where their loved ones were. Because they (their families) won't last forever but the stars will. The scene where Sehun was in the space with the whale represents the moment when both realized that they miss their home and friends, thing that I think connects the other scenes of the MV and explain them very well. In those scenes we can see the members playing around and then, one of them being alone and sad. The whole MV is about missing someone and regretting getting away from them or doing something that hurt them. At the end of the MV we can see how the members are together again, just like the poem, where the astronaut and the whale comeback to the mainland and ocean respectively, so at least there is a happy ending. The awkwardness and yes about hurting each other like family sometimes do but their love and brotherhood still prevails. About Astronaut's Whale, it was also interpreted that its bec only whales can give signals to each other anywhere they are, which means one is never really alone just like EXO's relationship with each other and EXOLs. ❤️

The whale concept was derived from the a whale called Alice aka ‘The Loneliest Whale in the World’, who is an unidentified whale species, being the only whale emitting a call at 52-hertz (like a lonly sad song) The astronaut concept was derived from the story of the astronaut *Michael Collins* who spent 48 minutes in his spaceship and coming back saying that those 48 minutes were the longest and most loneliest of mankind. The combination of these two concepts placed within the MV discusses being away from home, being somewhere unfamiliar (since the whale and astronaut is in space) and being isolated. Isolation was one of the themes in the mv (when Kai was seen being alone when the other members were playing/when Chanyeol and Suho were fighting). The song and the MV seems to talk about how everyone, in their lifetime, would meet a low point where they feel most isolated and most out of their place, but that this song (and EXO) will be there to warm their hearts. Sing for you is literally where EXO sings for EXOL (as the title says) some says that the mv is abt how the members feel and how they were dealing with some members left the group (krislutao). Members felt like they were letting fans down during that time and broke their promise to always be one (EXO's slogan, "we are one, saranghaja (let's love) ) Somehow this song is like an apology. This was far from the simple times for exo members, probably one of the hardest time for exo and exols. That is why, you see chanyeol and suho were fighting and hitting each other, Suho blaming himself as a leader for not being able to keep the group together and chanyeol was pretty much yelling for suho to stop blaming himself. They were all angry and sad because they felt like they were all so blindsided by everything tht happened because none of the members who left ever said anything before they decided to leave. A lot of things happened during this time, and there was so much uncertainty abt what it meant for the group, etc. Time isnt necessarily reversing. Tao had the ability to turn back time but he's no longer part of exo, so we dont see time being stopped or reversed like we used to see in mvs before. They are happy in the beginning, as this was after they worked hard and learnt to move on. The part where you see kai were furious, d.o screamed, baekhyun and xiumin were left alone at the table and the basketball court were the flashbacks on how they felt before that. The choronology EXO winter albums for me: Miracle in Disember is where you lose someone and hoping for comeback together.. Sing For You is abouts reminiscing someone you have lost.. For life is the more they try to find that person and keep trapping in loop or tangles.. Universe is when we feel too tired in searching.. just take a break for awhile.. and try to figure out how to solve the problem.. that why we can see many things bout tangles rope.. and the end it show a single line where show end to end.
Yes that was Chanyeol's voice! He has a really husky singing voice regardless of if he is singing higher pitch or lower pitch. (Sobs he's been MIA for 71 days). I think the song is about losing somebody close to you and the feelings you feel after losing someone so close to you. Its a beautiful song. All EXO winter songs are extremely sad. They are known as the boys that cry during winter. Universe is a beautiful song and all the songs on the album are golden. Been through & Fall are my two favorites. Universe is basically them being sad around December with coffee now. 🤣 now they can stay up longer to be sad. Don't worry about Patreon and the tiers. Baekhyun's vocals always give me goosebumps. So yes, it was Baekhyun. I think he elevates the emotions in a song. Sing For You was my favorite ballad and then Universe came along. It's so hard to choose. They are all amazing really. Also, the album for Universe is gender-neutral lyrically for the whole album. There are no female or male pronouns so it is neutral just like the colors of the Universe video.

He went on to explain that, to him, “comforting” is being able to successfully convey different emotions that a listener can feel in a vicarious way. Because that allows the listener to feel emotional release through his songs. When Chen expressed this interpretation of “comfort song” it made me appreciate his emotional intelligence and maturity, as well as his kind and warm personality that shines through in his artistic goals/expression as a singer.

'Sing for You' has a sad story and music video. It's a story of an astronaut and a lonely whale. This whale and astronaut theory represents and parallels the story or the struggles of the members who have parted ways within each other. The galaxy represents Kris, the basketball represents Luhan, and the fighting represents Tao. The fighting scene with Suho means that at that time, he felt that he wasn't a good leader and blames himself for the departure of the three members. Because of that, Chanyeol got angry and he's trying to convince Suho that he's not a bad leader and it was not his fault. In the music video, EXO felt a lot of pain and felt lonely but they know that they still have the other members. In the actual poem, the whale and the astronaut parted ways because the whale wanted to go back home but they make sure that even if they have their seperate lives, they will remain as friends just like how KrisTaoHan parted ways wirh EXO. They will always cherish and remember the memories & friendship that they had together no matter where they are. I always think of the Sing For You MV as something I’m probably not going to be able to understand and just appreciate how beautiful the song is. Universe is so aesthetically pleasing and there’s something so comforting about! EXO’s winter albums really don’t disappoint, I’m glad there’s a mix of styles with the b-sides too! Some of my favorites are: Twenty Four, Unfair, Fall, and Been Through.

For Universe, the concept is pretty vague for some people. The whole mv is a metaphor. There's three points, the coffee, the strings and continuous scribble, and colour palette. The colour palette is brown or earthy colour, bcos instead of cold and white wimter, they wanted to creat a warm winter, to match the lyrics. To emphasise 'warmth' of the song. Sense of familiarity too. The string, at first it was tangled, basically everything was tangled at the beginning of the video, their hands, their bodies, Jongdae's scribble, the same metaphor to the spilled milk. It's their emotions and its struggle. You will notice how, after chanyeol took of his sweater, he looked so releaved, and after fhey stay together at one table, they started smiling, and then they showed an untangled string and painting with a straight line. It's a sense of relief. Coffee, the most important element of the video. Firstly, coffee, or more specifically, 'cosmic latte' is exols' fandom colour. Cosmic Latte is also the official colour of the universe, stated by NASA(it's not made up). It looks like dirty white and silvery. The song lowkey was for exols too. They want to convey how exols are also a sense of familiarity and warmth to them. The other symbolism, or in this case more of a metaphor is how they used the coffee as 'texture' and flow of the mv. You can see that their bg is literally a black coffee colour, and they used fog a lot in the mv, which symbolised the coffee's smoke, and they how they used part where milk started to mixed with the black coffee or the milk foam and turn it into the stage effect, like the white sheet that was flowing under suho's feet, thefalling curtain. And the coffee also emphasised the 'warmth' of the mv, very much like the earthy colour palette. I'm a design student and it still took me a while to figure out all these. It will look very vague and confusing to some people. I'm sorry that it's so long tho lol.

'Sing For You' & 'My Answer' are my favorite EXO ballads, but honestly it is really hard to pick since they have a beautiful ballad discography. All of their songs are unique and an absolutely wonderful display of vocals, harmonies and runs. They are really heart warming and a treat for the ears. I suffer from anxiety and insomnia and I swear it's EXO's winter albums that get me through the night, specifically Been Through from the Universe album. I play it on repeat and eventually I'm able to fall asleep.. 💛
I feel like a lot of people don't know this, and I didn't see it in the comments, but exo-l's official fandom color is cosmic latte. So it's the color of all the stars in the universe combined. That's also why there is coffee all throughout the video. At first the coffee is black and bitter, and they are searching the universe for us and feel lost without us (hence the tangles, tied by rope, the messy scribbles), but once we are found, they are set free, the painting turns to one straight line, and the black coffee fills with the color of the stars (using the cream to symbolize that). I am really not a ballad type of person normally but ballads from SM, I just love them so much. They have talented singers who can easily convey a bunch of emotions from their songs. And I say that for any SM groups. EXO's Winter albums... they are all beautiful. One of my favourite Winter songs from them along with Universe is December, 2014. For the cup in Universe. They actually sold it and they also sold some coffee (cafe mocha) with it too (separately). The cup was coming with 2 photocards of 2 members if I remember well. I nearly bought it at that time...

I'm a sucker for a good ballad and EXO really are the masters. I loved that shot of them at the end of Universe so much that I saved it as my PC background. However, I do feel they're judging me every time I look at it, especially if I'm skiving off when I'm supposed to be working. Also, that Kyungsoo gif at the end is just the best!
It's just that there is something so unsettling about the song "Universe" and that's what the MV shows. There are knotted ropes, the light turns off on Baekhyun, Sehun is looking at a chaotic structure of miniature chairs, Xuimin is crumpling up a sheet of paper, Chen is drawing a messy circle, Kai is seen running (away or into?!), Chanyeol is tied up, a painting which Sehun was looking at shows tangled strings, DO is surrounded by smoke. AND then there is this perfect process, most satisfying view of coffee making shown as the end result. Everything seems all tangled and mixed up and they are trying to untie the knot to finally find what they are looking for. This is why EXO is the best and if not the best then one of the few best KPOP groups, who show such vulnerability in their voices, in their MVs and lyrics

Universe is when we feel too tired in searching.. just take a break for awhile.. and try to figure out how to solve the problem.. that why we can see many things bout tangles rope.. and the end it show a single line where show end to end.
Yes that was Chanyeol's voice! He has a really husky singing voice regardless of if he is singing higher pitch or lower pitch. (Sobs he's been MIA for 71 days). I think the song is about losing somebody close to you and the feelings you feel after losing someone so close to you. Its a beautiful song. All EXO winter songs are extremely sad. They are known as the boys that cry during winter.
Universe is a beautiful song and all the songs on the album are golden. Been through & Fall are my two favorites. Universe is basically them being sad around December with coffee now. 🤣 now they can stay up longer to be sad.

Baekhyun's vocals always give me goosebumps. So yes, it was Baekhyun. I think he elevates the emotions in a song. Sing For You was my favorite ballad and then Universe came along. It's so hard to choose. They are all amazing really.
Also, the album for Universe is gender-neutral lyrically for the whole album. There are no female or male pronouns so it is neutral just like the colors of the Universe video.

'Sing for You' has a sad story and music video. It's a story of an astronaut and a lonely whale. This whale and astronaut theory represents and parallels the story or the struggles of the members who have parted ways within each other.
The galaxy represents Kris, the basketball represents Luhan, and the fighting represents Tao. The fighting scene with Suho means that at that time, he felt that he wasn't a good leader and blames himself for the departure of the three members. Because of that, Chanyeol got angry and he's trying to convince Suho that he's not a bad leader and it was not his fault.
In the music video, EXO felt a lot of pain and felt lonely but they know that they still have the other members. In the actual poem, the whale and the astronaut parted ways because the whale wanted to go back home but they make sure that even if they have their seperate lives, they will remain as friends just like how KrisTaoHan parted ways wirh EXO. They will always cherish and remember the memories & friendship that they had together no matter where they are.
This is what the last stanza of the poem says :
It won’t be long till we both meet again
For this new friendship of ours is far from its end
And now that we know where we each belong
We will visit and share and sing faraway songs
And remember our times exploring deep outer space
And know that home is the most wonderful place

I always think of the Sing For You MV as something I’m probably not going to be able to understand and just appreciate how beautiful the song is. Universe is so aesthetically pleasing and there’s something so comforting about! EXO’s winter albums really don’t disappoint, I’m glad there’s a mix of styles with the b-sides too! Some of my favorites are: Twenty Four, Unfair, Fall, and Been Through.
I think we started the EXO journey at the same time and so happy to see how you have easily progressed from watching MVs to actually buying their products. Maybe one day, I can buy their albums too and watch their concerts. What I realize though in this short time is that EXO is best watched live. EXO's Winter songs are all good but Universe is my favorite so far. Totally inlove with this song.
For Universe, the concept is pretty vague for some people. The whole mv is a metaphor. There's three points, the coffee, the strings and continuous scribble, and colour palette.
The colour palette is brown or earthy colour, bcos instead of cold and white wimter, they wanted to creat a warm winter, to match the lyrics. To emphasise 'warmth' of the song. Sense of familiarity too.
The string, at first it was tangled, basically everything was tangled at the beginning of the video, their hands, their bodies, Jongdae's scribble, the same metaphor to the spilled milk. It's their emotions and its struggle. You will notice how, after chanyeol took of his sweater, he looked so releaved, and after fhey stay together at one table, they started smiling, and then they showed an untangled string and painting with a straight line. It's a sense of relief.
Coffee, the most important element of the video. Firstly, coffee, or more specifically, 'cosmic latte' is exols' fandom colour. Cosmic Latte is also the official colour of the universe, stated by NASA(it's not made up). It looks like dirty white and silvery. The song lowkey was for exols too. They want to convey how exols are also a sense of familiarity and warmth to them.
The other symbolism, or in this case more of a metaphor is how they used the coffee as 'texture' and flow of the mv. You can see that their bg is literally a black coffee colour, and they used fog a lot in the mv, which symbolised the coffee's smoke, and they how they used part where milk started to mixed with the black coffee or the milk foam and turn it into the stage effect, like the white sheet that was flowing under suho's feet, thefalling curtain.
And the coffee also emphasised the 'warmth' of the mv, very much like the earthy colour palette.
I'm a design student and it still took me a while to figure out all these. It will look very vague and confusing to some people. I'm sorry that it's so long tho lol.

'Sing For You' & 'My Answer' are my favorite EXO ballads, but honestly it is really hard to pick since they have a beautiful ballad discography. All of their songs are unique and an absolutely wonderful display of vocals, harmonies and runs. They are really heart warming and a treat for the ears. Oh, please check out "Cloud 9", "Artificial Love", "Thunder", "Moonlight", "Touch It" and definitely listen to "Sweet Lies" (my favorite EXO song). P.S. Love your reactions!

I feel like a lot of people don't know this, and I didn't see it in the comments, but exo-l's official fandom color is cosmic latte. So it's the color of all the stars in the universe combined. That's also why there is coffee all throughout the video. At first the coffee is black and bitter, and they are searching the universe for us and feel lost without us (hence the tangles, tied by rope, the messy scribbles), but once we are found, they are set free, the painting turns to one straight line, and the black coffee fills with the color of the stars (using the cream to symbolize that). And the lyrics are what they want to tell us exo-ls, and you'll see that it works very well with what I just said above. Hope that explains some things! Thank you for the reaction!

I'm a sucker for a good ballad and EXO really are the masters. I loved that shot of them at the end of Universe so much that I saved it as my PC background. However, I do feel they're judging me every time I look at it, especially if I'm skiving off when I'm supposed to be working. Also, that Kyungsoo gif at the end is just the best!

It's just that there is something so unsettling about the song "Universe" and that's what the MV shows. There are knotted ropes, the light turns off on Baekhyun, Sehun is looking at a chaotic structure of miniature chairs, Xuimin is crumpling up a sheet of paper, Chen is drawing a messy circle, Kai is seen running (away or into?!), Chanyeol is tied up, a painting which Sehun was looking at shows tangled strings, DO is surrounded by smoke. AND then there is this perfect process, most satisfying view of coffee making shown as the end result. Everything seems all tangled and mixed up and they are trying to untie the knot to finally find what they are looking for. This is why EXO is the best and if not the best then one of the few best KPOP groups, who show such vulnerability in their voices, in their MVs and lyrics
