      Ina K it's not about being a 'Celebration'. what's wrong with getting ready for a family/friends gathering for Iftar/Suhoor? it's somehow a cultural thing in some countries in the middle east.

    Mac have actually taken the campaign down as there was (and still is) a pic of the same look on their Insta stating ‘get ready for your evening gathering’. So it actually was an error where they stated suhoor instead of Iftar x

    • @naarmsaiyed
      @naarmsaiyed 6 лет назад +24

      It was also done by MAC middle east, and it's still up on their instagram - it's meant for middle eastern muslims!

    • @AyeshaHak

      No it was only done by Mac Middle East and the actual link now simply states ‘free postage during Ramadan’ - although the campaign is still on their Insta (which is what I refer to above)

    YESSSS!!! Thank you Dina for saying this. People have definitely have blown it out of proportion without having any context. Also note that this was released on the MAC Arabia RUclips channel and was mainly aimed at that audience. Suhoor party culture is huge where I come from and people go all out. MAC is also massive in the MENA region so, for people like us we actually enjoy content like that.

    I was out shoping with my mom today and had a nice muslim lady with her very small child in a shop with us and she almost collapsed. it's 30°C today outside and the first thing that came to my mind " Oh shit, it's Ramadan and she probably hasn't eaten or drink anything all day!" which was correct so we guided her so a more secluded area in the shop( the shop owner is an old friend of my mom so we got to use the private areas) and basically tried to get her body cool again and lifted her legs up a bit so that the blood can flow back into her head. She removed her hijab and cooled down her head a bit with the water we got her and also drank some small sips. She was very thankful for us just helping her and especially me knowing what is wrong but I still feel like I might have been insensitive to her religion in any way with me just offering her water to cool down.
    I know that you aren't even allowed to drink but I feel like health is more important than sticking to the rules in any situation especially with a little girl of only 1 1/2 years around.

    • @ikkee5936
      @ikkee5936 6 лет назад +367

      You did a good job by offering her water. Thank you for that! And muslims are allowed to eat and drink out of necessity. We don't have to fast when our health can be endagered, that's why people who have to take medication, menstruating women, children, elderly people etc. don't have to fast.

    In Bangladesh almost all the restaurants are open for suhoor in Ramadan and it's become very normal, in the past few years, to go out for suhoor.
    And like you said, the work day is shortened as well to accomodate for Ramadan, which is why is become even more normal :D

    Hi Dina, I moved from London to Qatar, Doha and my first Ramadan here has been so different to what it is in the UK. Everything is just so different and it’s amazing. Everything is open from Iftar to suhoor and it’s so lively everywhere you go. Everything is so Festive. The Arabs here are so glam even at that time of night and there I am a girl from London in my Home clothes hoping no one will notice.
    I really enjoyed this cos I could relate to what you were saying!

Love listening to your thoughts/opinions and ideas! Was really disheartened to hear you won’t be continuing those sid and Dina advice vids. I totally agree with you on what you said in this video, because this has made me realize the diversity of Muslims and I think it’s so cool to be honest! It makes me wish I lived in a Muslim country, at least during the month of Ramadan because Ramadan here in the U.S. is not as enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong I do understand that Ramadan is about focusing on religion but at the same time life becomes so boring because for the rest of the day no one wants to do anything because “it’s Ramadan, we’re fasting”

  • @SaraNasaif

    I didn't understand what was wrong with it at first because coming from a gulf country this is very common. There's a thing called Ghabga which is basically a gathering after iftar usually starting from 10 pm and goes up until 2 or 3 am, where families or friends dress up and enjoy the food. Most of the time, the Ghabga is also referred to as suhoor since it lasts till late at night. Also, all the restaurants are open until fajr so almost everyone goes out at night all glammed up.

  • @Mira_dxb
    @Mira_dxb 6 лет назад

    Yes, you are 100% correct with your interpretation of the clip. I am from Dubai and what I think Mac means is that Ghabgah gathering which is after Tarweeh and it is basically the meal between Iftar and Suhoor, where a lot of people choose to socialize and go out, some would either go to a Ramadan tents/ buffet or many prefer to go to friends and family gatherings at homes and majlis ... We also refer to it as early Suhoor, as food get served early.

    Here in Morocco, especially Tangier, day and night basically switch. Restaurants etc open at iftar and stay open till suhur, even the gym I go to opens at around 2pm and closes at 2am, versus 6am to 10pm on normal days.

  • @tamsir6019
    @tamsir6019 6 лет назад +33

    This is absolutely true. When I lived in Saudi Arabia, the timetable throughout the whole country would change and so people would stay up until suhoor and get ready and go out to very luxurious restaurants at like 3 in the morning. I remember women would put sooo much make up on and thats just the way they do things:)

    Hi Dina, I hope that you and your family are doing well. I just wanted to say I’m glad that you voiced your opinion even thought it’s not the popular one and thank you for clarifying how things are in some middle eastern countries, I am from Morocco and it is the first time I’ve heard that in some countries ppl actually go out for suhur. Here in Morocco most people stay up from iftar until suhur but everything is closed after tarawih, so it was indeed interesting to hear that people go out for suhur and I feel like it’s a cool thing, I wish I could do that in my country as well. Have a great day !

    So true. I’m an American convert and spent my first 4 Ramadans there. Now I live in Saudi Arabia and it’s such a new and amazing experience to be in a place where most other people are celebrating it too! People are still very much awake and out during Suhoor, since many work schedules allow you do start later and end early. I also think a lot of people don’t push suhoor till the last second like we did in America- maybe because the fast isn’t as long.

  • @09chocolatebunnie

    Agreed ! Went to Dubai during Ramadan and most restaurant were closed. However for iftar everyone was glammed up at the hotel, the mall was flooded with highly glammed women and men, restaurants were catering for hundreds of families & the same for Suhoor. It was like a fashion show at 2AM. It was the only time you’ll see them during the day / night 😂

    I AGREE I'm from Qatar and Sohour events is a big thing here. All food places close during the day (You can only have takeout and delivery) for those who are not fasting or cook at home then they open before breaking fast around 6:15 . So basically all big sohour gatherings happen after 9:30 after taraweh and people dress up in (jalabiyas) traditional wear etc... so its normal to dress up and be glammed when our food places open till before sohour time and our fasting is not as long as Europe ! I guess people missunderstood the ad and for us its normal LOL

    Spending Ramadan in Egypt and all my outings have been for su7oor! Some restaurants even have a special su7oor (or iftar) menu.

    Not just in Egypt or Turkey or Dubai. In Saudia we stay up till suhoor and sleep after fajr and start our day when we wake up. We have went out to eat suhoor alot of times with our family and friends. The shops close before suhoor time so that people can eat and enjoy their suhoor with their family and friends

    Here in Doha since we open fast 6ish and go out later for dinner which we call suhoor. Most of the time even if it’s not at 3am we still call it suhoor, it’s just any time after iftar. And yeah if we go out for it we’ll probably get ready.

    So true- in Middle Eastern Muslim countries its like the entire society becomes nocturnal. People will go out to restaurants, go shopping, or even just visit their friends all at night and sleep or relax during the day. Even work schedules will usually change, to start a little bit later and end earlier. It's a really nice time actually, and fun to go out and basically enjoy your city as usual but everything is dark and lit up prettily with lights and everyone has more religious and communal/charitable feeling in general (instead of having a nightclub/partying nighttime vibe)!

    Yep its a proper thing back in Pakistan as well (going out on Suhoor), similar to Egypt. Ramadan and Eid is so much better back home than it is here in UK. Also, not everyone in Pakistan goes out for Suhoor, some do and most don't. It really depends on people and what they prefer. Im glad you got the point of it instead of trolling the shit out of it, hahah.
