Really enjoyed this documentary, brought back loads of bitter sweet memories. To be honest, we're not that much further on 30 years later. Yes, we have the marina and glass centre and lovely landscaped riversides, but where are the jobs? Look at the town centre, it's definitely not a city centre, looks like it's been abandoned! I'd be very interested to see a follow up to this programme.

I was born and bred in Sunderland, but now live and work overseas, and its so sad to see how the whole city was mislead, mismanaged and deceived by these so called "leaders". Obvious promises that could never be realized, and if you look at Sunderland today, its a "broken promise" in every sense of the word, a shadow of its former self. Its not helped by the nearsightedness of many of the inhabitants, who are mired in a "local" mentality. I feel sorry for the folks of Sunderland, who are some of the best people in the world, hard working, hard playing, and honest to the core. However, they are open to being mislead, or gullible if you like. You get the leadership you elect, which in this case is what killed the city. I wish them all the best, I really do.

Even back then Sunderland Clowncil didn't understand, just because someone has a business here, they don't have to live here, ruining the greenbelt back then, still making the same inept mistakes now. Great doc BTW.

Was there 1988 to 1993; it’s a dump, was then. Is now. Not much more to say. Really.
