'09 Madone...First race bike i bought new...15 years old this Sept. 60cm, bottle cages and computer mount (without computer) ready to ride: 16.65lbs. That's exactly 2lbs more than this bike here in the video. Call your mum on your cell phone and eat a banana. You've just held the difference in weight between the two. But the phone and banana didn't cost you an additional $5K did it? Weight matters yes. Just like Aero matters. Stiffness matters. What's amazing is back in '09 it was all about WEIGHT but putting emphasis on stiffness. Now it's all about aero with emphasis on stiffness. Weight comes last though it is part of the trifecta for what makes up a great bike.
The bike is perfect but it's not for me. I'm not a racer so I don't need electronic shifters. I need mechanical shifters because I 'm an endurance rider.
I have "only" the stock Foil Ultimate in size 58 and it weighs in at 7,5kg incl. bottle cages, Garmin mount and DuraAce pedals. No saddle bag included in the figure. Using the words "only" and "stock" is a bit harsh on my setup but shows how cool Taylor Dawson's setup truly is. 🥲
Yeah for carbon posts like on the Addict it's 4nm. When I first got the Foil I had no idea of the torque spec and went to 4 and it creaked. After talking to the guys at SCOTT and getting the right torque spec it solved it. I think a bunch of bike reviewers have no idea and under tighten it, then release videos saying it's an issue, and now people think the seatpost design is faulty🤦. It's actually really good and the 3 part seatpost that flexes makes a big difference on rough terrain.
Some bikes write torque specs on seat post clamps, others don't. It's kind of scary to tighten to 8+nm unless it's written on the clamp. But yeah, my seat post magically stopped slipping when I torqued it to 9 :D
