Thank you for this informative video. I manage to get to the board of my HP Compaq LA2006X using your instructions and make repairs to the monitor. Pesky diode shorted ... could not believe that I am reading a value of 0 volts in checking the diodes and confirmed it out of circuit. Your video is very informative.
Thanks for this. My w2207 was taking ages to come on - anywhere from minutes to hours after main system boot. I replaced all the electrolytic capacitors on the power / inverter board & that cured it. I used Panasonic FR series capacitors from ebay, apparrently these are a 'low ESR' type which turned out to be quite important. I'd have had trouble getting the thing open in the first place though without your vid.
I have the exact same problem as you had. In the beginning it took minutes and as it passed it took half an hour then hour then hours and now it stays black. The power button blinks blue every 3 seconds and I get no image on the monitor.
I just opened one of these and found a far safer way to get the black bezel around the LCD off. I put something similar to a wide flathead screwdriver into the outside groove of the bezel and used it as a leverl to try to pull the bezel away from the case. At the same time, I used my fingers to press the inside edge of the bezel around the LCD towards the outside. This outside push unhooks the catches while the screwdriver pulls them apart. I used a wider metal object (PCI slot cover from a desktop PC) to do the prying and a hand towel to pad the silver edge of the monitor so it didn't get nicked while I was prying. I started the process in the middle of a side edge rather than near a corner where it's harder. I'll admit that my fingers hurt a little afterwards due to the high force needed to uncatch the hooks. I had it open in a few minutes without any risk of damage to the LCD (last time I opened one of these I scratched the LCD near the edge, even though I was using only a thick plastic card to pry it open, nothing metal). BTW, the problem with this one was phantom menu button presses that made it unusable. I found that one of the microswitches had some corrosion *inside* the mechanism that was causing a varying resistance down to tens of K. It was maddedning to find since it was so intermittent, sometimes not showing up on the meter at all. I cut the four little black tops off the switch, popped the metal cover off, cleaned it with a Q-tip and iso alcohol, examined with a loupe to be sure there wasn't any fibers left, and that fixed it.
Works like a charm! I pulled the screwdriver down to the edge and levered it a bit with another screwdriver from the outside. Once two edges are loose, you can remove it by lifting it up.
Great comment, thanks! I'll add to it by describing the latches. There are about 64 small plastic latches in groups of 3 or 2. Each latch is 1 mm wide, 2 mm long and protrudes by about 1 mm. They are 1 cm deep relative to the bezel surface and are all facing inwards. They latch onto matching plastic holes on the grey housing. Each group of latches has plastic guides on the sides and the individual latches are spaced about 5 mm apart. Latch groups are spaced 5 cm apart on the sides and 4 to 11 cm on the top and bottom. There are 5 groups on each side, 6 on the top and 6 on the bottom. You'll find 2 groups right next to each corner, so they might be trickier.
Yes i need to know but I'll keeps scrolling to the bottom it has to be here. I saw a latch hook from under the round part attached to the monitor and screw I took off but it's not giving maybe I have to try harder
I successfully fixed my monitor thanks to for your video, I coundn't disconnect the four neon lights connector but it was not necessary to replace the video board. Thank you again.
I just repaired a HP 2009m monitor. I carefully removed the mask from the screen, putting the blade of the screwdriver in from the outside. However, the monitor was still solidly attached to the back case. The stand on this model is attached toward the bottom of the unit. I had already removed it. There was a plastic plate in the center on the back which snapped out and revealed the four screws that secured the back cover as well as being there to attach the monitor to an alternative mount. This allowed the back cover to be removed and after unplugging three cables, I had access to the back chassis. There were two cables and two screws to remove as well as some silver tape that allowed access to the two circuit boards. The were two failed capacitors on the power supply board. The monitor now works beautifully. Parts cost was $1.39. It seems that on this model, there was no need to removed the mask from the front.
I was so fed up with the menu button constantly bringing up the volume display. Was about to throw the whole thing away, which I didnt want to do since I really like the color of this display. Yeah, its old, and it's not even the main monitor, but once you go dual-monitor, it's really hard to go back. Wither way, I was so glad I found this video so I can disconnect those stupid buttons. Thanks again man.
Thanks for the video. I’ve just been given one to repair (electronics went bang) and was a little stumped as to where the hidden clips would be. At least now I can get progress.
Nice demonstration RFL,thanks. I love the base on this monitor. Can it be purchased separately to be used with any monitor? Do you happen to have the part number for it?
Thanks! Got it apart fine. Cat had peed on it, shorted out the volume control switch so the menu was always on the screen. Just disconnected it, reassembled, and good to go!
Thank you so much for making this video, I was able to fix my monitor! The black plastic part of the monitor is terrible, I lost some of the internal parts of it as a result but I don`t care. Thanks again!
Runforlife..very detailed tutorial.I have a query. Is that the glossy screen itself the display panel or it is a protective glass??I have my dell S2240L monitor with this same type of glossy screen.
Runforlife So how do the manufacturers protect the LCD screens from external damages like we can see in older CRT monitors a separate glass at front of the screen..
There is technically a "glass" in front of most LCD displays including TV's. However this glass is not replaceable. In smart phones and tablets it sort of is replaceable and it is called "digitizer" For Tv's though once you brake the "glass" there are no replacements and buying a new LCD is just not a viable option since they are usually really expansive to replace. By the way great question!
Runforlife Thanks for the information..I asked this because when i tried to clean my Dell S2240L monitor screen[glossy] ended up with lots of scratches and swirles..I thought this would affect the display quality and clarity. And the glossiness is also reduced a little bit.Does this glossiness has any relation with the display clarity/quality??
Vv hese When cleaning LCD's the best way is by using a microfiber cloth, which you can buy for fairly cheap online or stores. The glossiness does not really affect the quality. Most smart TV's nowadays are made glossy while others matte. However, certain glossy displays can produce a "mirror" effect, which kinda reflects whats in front of them just like a mirror. Whether one chooses a display with glossiness or matte is a personal preference on what looks best to you.
u start the vide with the cover of the stand remnoved. How do u remove that ? My moniter keeps shuting off. I thaink its over heating so I want to c what I can do about that.
I replaced 120u 450V cap. Then I drill a hole at back of the mon. and added a cooling fan to cool down the added heatsinks video IC. It works. No more garbage horizontal lines.
Is the USB controller built-in to a main board or is it removable? I have 2 x W2207 monitors, 1 with a dead LCD and one with non-functioning USB ports. I was thinking of trying to pull the USB components from the one with the dead LCD and replacing the parts in the bad USB. Is this feasible??
Thanks for the guide. I have the 24" version of this monitor. It still works fine except for the USB hub. I use it for my phone, or other similar gadgets and sometimes it disconnects for a while. I'm not sure if it is worth to try to open the monitor and try to resolder the USB connectors. I don't want to damage the monitor even more, but also I would like the USB hub to work well again.
no, that's the power board for turning the 110-240v AC input into high (idk, 10k) volts, the other board is for turning the rgb and timing signals from vga, or the rgb/digital signals from dvi into what color and pixel should be displayed at the time, if it was anything like the box-tv's you would see a nice big vacuum tube, and large transformers and capacitors. Take care
Thanks for the walk-through...we were stumped as to how to get the monitor apart. The monitor is doing the intermittent thing and needs the capacitors changed. Looked around for new monitors and none of them is as nice as the old HP's, so we're refurbishing. I have the *older* monitor without HDMI :)
I have one of these monitors and the backlight stopped working, is it that the backlight actually went out or is it something like the inverter? I don't want to throw this away/recycle it if it can be fixed cheaply, TIA.
Runforlie I I really admire the effort you put into the video. My name is Miguel I am interested in where to purchase the HP W2207 screen and the companies that sell them I recently had one of the kids threw a ball at the screen and cracked. If you can please give me the information where to purchase the screens and expensively.
i have a hp 2159m and i took off the black plastic but when i turned it over to take out the led screen it it won't pop out like yours did.i don't want to pry too much , would you know anything about this model?
If you still care to know, it could be your gpu, if its not, then it could be the connection (your vga/dvi cable, or the cable to the lcd screen itself) or it could be the lcd controller itself. this is of course if you still have it and haven't fixed it yet, :)) Take care.
I'll do the same thing waht you did. My monitor went off 5 days ago when I let the computer and monitor on while I went to do something and came my monitor is blanked. Thanks for showing the steeps.
I have this monitor, 1 week ago the on/off button started to flash and it takes like 10-15 minutes for the monitor to work. And since yesterday everytime there's a white background the monitor keeps turning off and re-turning on, endlessly. Any suggestion?
Get a plastic card(like a gift card) wedge that between the plastic and metal at the very top center of the monitor. Use that to leverage up the plastic shroud. Then you can use your hands to pull ip. You will hear plastic popping as it disconnects. This can be a lot safer than risking scratching the monitor by using a flathead

Might be different for different models/revisions.

2022 checking in! Thanks for this - clear and concise! I'm going to open mine and add a headphone jack... maybe! :D
thanks for your time and info. wanted to add I used this video to open my HP LP3065 IT WORKED PERFECTLY.

Awesome demo. My monitor makes a popping noise when booting up. I suspect the cooling fins are plugged with dirt
This works perfect thank you so much dude thought I was down to 2 monitors

Very hard to pull the black bezel, good chances to crack it or to pull the connectors at the top and bottom of the screen.
How did you remove the circle part of the back panel?
NVM I figured it out :D Thx for the video though
Fuchsia5 You're welcome. I am glad you found this video helpful. Thanks.
Fuchsia5 how?? please help!
Pry it with your fingers from the top where it's round, be gentle and it will pop off
How do you remove the hard black plastic piece off to even get to the screws?
I found this video very helpful, thanks a lot!
I wanted to find the same model lcd replacement, any idea where i can get it?
Thank you for this video, it was for me helpful :-)
full LCD open
thank you, it was so helpful.
I have one of these monitors and the backlight stopped working, is it that the backlight actually went out or is it something like the inverter? I don't want to throw this away/recycle it if it can be fixed cheaply, TIA.
Most likely it's the back light.
Runforlife I was afraid of that, ty for the prompt reply.
thanks man really useful video

Boss...how about hp 2011x monitor?how to open it and how to fix the flickering?...please...thanks...
works also very well with the rear side of a spoon or equal :)
Il y a quoi
Спасибо за ролик 👍
good explaning
Is it dangerous or bad to used the monitor without the plastic enclosure? the metal frame/body just looks so nice!!
not dangerous for it, but the screen could fall out, and in case of electrical failure, the metal case could become live
Is there any video for sony 32" disassembly ??
I haven't had the chance to make a video for those yet. As soon as I get the chance, I will upload a video for those too. Thank you.
i have the same one mines has vertical lines that appear when being turned on haven't went away what could this be?
If you still care to know, it could be your gpu, if its not, then it could be the connection (your vga/dvi cable, or the cable to the lcd screen itself) or it could be the lcd controller itself. this is of course if you still have it and haven't fixed it yet, :))

It could be an issue related to the power inverter or power supply.
Yea this one was a pain with killing the brightness randomly, and another completely pained disassembly, wish me luck
I tried getting the caseing off and I did what he did with the flat head and it broke the lcd screen thanks
You complete idiot!
sabes como puedo ponerlo en una pared please
many many thanks beautiful people
thanks
Never mind...just found it, thank you.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it says to change my monitor settings to 1680x1060 - 60hz because the monitor is out of range. any help :)
+xSwift Have you tried the options from the menu?
Es por fuer hacerle palanca nop por dentro amigo
Watching after 7 year lol;)
My little cousin put my dads credit card in the disc slot help
tried this and ended up breaking the lcd. :(
most probably did. you are supposed to open it from the outside of the screen frame not the inside.
dude you monitor is not hp w2207 but hp w2207h it is a big differents :P h means hdmi lol
Não recomendo fazer desta forma, o risco de avariar o display é muito grande.
My monitor just emits sound from my ps4 and shows a blank screen when it's turned on... What could be my problem?
Hi there, the cause could be the power inverter or the LCD panel itself.
Gracias me acabo de joder la pantalla :sarcasmo
Don't try this at home other wise you will lose your LCD panel
oh how stupid... open from the outside not the inside of the screen frame. Well everyone good luck not shattering that paper thin screen.
Too late some idiot just did it look up at the comments...
