Ah the bird that i have looked for 2 years straight before I upgraded it to StarLancer for me the max is the most good looking one. Wish more clips from you captain
Couldn't say how many times I've tried to open the rear door and ended up in the turret because I wasn't close enough 😂. Great series of ships, powerful standard weapons.
I like the comparison table at the end. Maybe just mention it next time you include it as I almost missed it. Cant wait until they bring the Freelancers up to spec with the Starlancers.
This was my first love in star citizen. It was the firefly at the time. I almost feel they should have redesigned the freelancer and that should have been then star lancer.
When I first backed the game, I LOVED the way the Freelancers looked backed then. They looked aggressive and mean, now...not as much lol. I remember the original "commercial" for them, where the turrets could fire to either side of the ship, the engines acted like VTOLs and the front landing gear was an entry point, like you showed. I do like the interior now, compared to then, but ya, 4 people (at least on the base version) seems a bit much. Maybe they should make the rear turret a remote turret, and have the cheek turrets be able to be controlled by the seats, but honestly, like you said, they could probably drop the rear 2 seats and 2 of the bunks and have much more room. I had originally pledged for the Freelancer DUR, cause back then it was said it was going to be the biggest ship that could fit into the smallest jump point, and I REALLY wanted to go out and explore. I also completed the original 'Pirate Swarm' in the Freelancer MIS. I think the variant I actually have the LEAST amount of time in is the MAX. That was always because I just decided to save up for the Taurus by that point.
The freelancer has always been one of my favorite ships. My humble opinion on the current ship: - I still miss the front entrance via the landing gear, that was a great design - I hope they remodel it a bit and remove two beds and two chairs so you have more room for other stuff. - I'm curious to see if it will ever be possible to control gravity separately in the small cargo area, otherwise the airlock is a bit impractical. It is still a great ship but for me the bigger brother has more amenities. :)
Love the new format where you show the paints at the beginning ... the Freelancer was the first ship I´ve ever seen from Star Citizen and I wanted it back then, but I had only money for the Mustang starter at that time. If they just overworked the Freelancer series I would get me the DUR for that exploration gameplay ... when it finally hits the verse XD
This is a very old design. And why it probably has a crew of four. Hopefully when they get around to a rework, they remove two bunks, two cockpit chairs, and can use that released space for better crew habitation. Plus get rid of that little middle room / airlock. That really makes no sense now that cargo comes in sizes bigger than 1 SCU. And of course change the manned turret to a remote turret, because the turret rails really get in the way of stuff in the cargo hold.
The Freelancer was the first ship I upgraded my original Aurora into, and I loved to look at her in the hangar module. It seemed like quite a big ship back then. Today she looks so small as we have access to much more ships and seems more like a "Starter+". Even though she still has a place in my heart, nowadays I fly her big sister. Among her direct coimpetitors, my favorite is the C1 Spirit. Such a sleek looking ship. But if you take the Freelancer variants into account it would be the Freelancer MAX, because of the supperior cargo space. And if the Freelancer is an option for you at all, you are looking at a hauler. Or the Zeus CL with a comparable cargo size but nicer interior (way newer ship). But that could come down to what box sizes you need to load to max it out. I don't like it when I have to use all kind of different sizes and fill every nook up with a mix of 2 and 4 SCU containers. But I can't remember how those to compare in that regard.
This was one of my first ships and my daily driver for a bit until the MAX variant came out. It had a great commercial too. Thank you for showing some of the paints! Adds a nice touch to the video. The Freelancer also looks good in the Auspicious Red paint (available once a year during the red (lunar new year) festival in late January or February) and the annual Foundation Festival (July) as well.
Great vid. I have always loved the living area of the freelancer. The airlock used to bug the hell out of me lol. Always confused me as to why you needed the extra "remote turret" seat when the turret is manned.
The MAX version is still my favorite cargo ship with an interior, the only downside is that middle section that can't fit boxes through the door >< (can through the airlock tho lol) Awesome video! Love the addition of the pain showcase :)
its cumbersome but 1 SCU and 2 SCU crates do actually fit through the door... at juuuuust the right angle (which ist often impossible due to hitbox collisions)
@EvenLease44 by the way those 2 seats behind driver and copilot are actually turret gunner seats left side is for well left gun and right one is for right turret and the copilot can do the energy supply etc and driver shooty missiles
Thank you for the Review! My very first ship. the first entry back then without verse only in the hangar module was epic. and how wonderfully the graphics have developed since then. the freelancer is the only one in the series that has a reasonable cockpit view because of the roof window. if we look at the pure technical stats, it is better than the cutty black and c1 spirit. in reality, it can't even come close to holding a candle to either of them. it is still in my hangar and will stay there, but if I had to choose between cutty black and freelancer today, I would always prefer drake cutlass black. The Freelancer's turret is poorly mounted and is blocked when fully loaded. it goes to the rear while the black has a sensible front, the black has more missiles and is not the most popular ship in the verse for nothing.
They HAVE to upgrade the turret to be a remote turret. They made the very similar Starlancers turrets remote, and the manned turret entry RIGHT in the way. (And your point about the extra seats in the cockpit)
The freelancer series is a great series of ships. My personal favorite is the max verient. Great amount of cargo and comftable to use. With 3d tetris thinking you can put there 160-180 SCU pretty easely
if the freelancer series ever get a internal rework i would wish for: removal of a bunkbed and seat. Instead of the bunkbed give us a cupboard for internal storage. combining the secondary cargo hold with the habitation, giving us a nice kitchen (that drink mixer alone isn't enough for sustaining a crew for long) and seating area moving the S1 Docking Collar to the side where the Ladder Access is (just like on the Hull-A) optional: instead of manned turret, a remote turret so it falls in line with the Starlancer; C1/A1; Zeus Mk2.
Its quantum fuel is down to 1.2 SCU (75 GM of range) on 4.0 PTU, it will have to refuel basically every time it jumps from planet to planet (same as a Gladius for example).
Love the freelancer! Total classic. It's just so hard to justify loading it cargo. With things with big bays like the C1, Hull A, Starlancer, it's just fallen a little behind. Especially with it's older sister the Freelancer Max! That said, she's a great starting point for cargo haulers.
I love the Freelancer, it really does live up to its namesake as it's a ship that really lets you do anything competently enough. I do agree though 4 crew is a bit much and I think the two extra chairs in the cockpit area should be removed as well as two of the beds to give more room for living space and maybe make it wide enough for one player to get around the other because she is a bit cramped.
I've had a 'Lancer since 2013. I preferred the original crew quarters.I can't imagine 4 people being trapped inside the new 'Lancer for long before they started stirring knives around in one another.
Ah, my very first love in this game. Still holds a special place in my heart even though by now it has been replaced by the Zeus CL and the Starlancer MAX. Freelancers are awesome. Since you are already on a MISC vessel... how´s that Starfarer review coming? You know, a tanker still might make sense to review with 4.0 around the corner.
Freelancer fan? Yes I am, since day one! One convenience I think all the Freelancers definitely need is a weapon rack. One change the Freelancers should get is making the rear turret remote. That would give one of the rear cockpit seats a definite function and remove the cargo dead spot in the stern where the turret currently lowers to permit manning.
Hi, cargo nerd here, and I just wanted to correct something about the comparison between this and the Cutlass Black. That front room with cargo grids on either side fits 12scu, 6 per side. Problem is the door baaaaaaaarely fits a 1scu box. Ive gotten stuff in, but never out. So excluding that 12scu the Freelancer only has 44scu of cargo. that, mixed with the tiny single loading ramp makes this ship a 0/10 for cargo running. Cutlass Black is also I think 20k cheaper to rent from the cargo center. Only reason to take the Freelancer over the Cutlass is that you hate drake and wouldn't be caught dead in one. This all being said, The Freelancer Max is one of the greatest ships in the game and it deserves respect on its name.
Like a lot of others, this is one of my faves. Has a little bit of everything, slim profile with not a lot of weak points to shoot off. Only downside is that I get more motion sick in the freelancer than any other ship, its just very claustrophobic.
I love the Freelancer but I really, really hope a potential rework will give it more of the Starlancer's design language. Less bulbous and more sleek. There have been some fan redesigns using the Starlancer as the base and they look fantastic.
Had bought the freelancer max in the PU. And it basically became my get shit doneabout ship and was actually the reason I got the zues like a bit more sleek version of the ship.
Still have my digital freelancer package, it just keeps looking better and better as the years go by. I do hope we get an option to upgrade the engines at some point, it'd be great if it go abit faster.
I bought the Freelancer way back when it was hangar module only, with the landing gear stairs entry. With the way cargo loading and containers work now, I have totally fallen out of love with this ship. The forward cargo bay is useless because the door is too small to get cargo in and out. Cargo capacity is just too low, and the MAX obsoletes the base variant. This ship needs a near total rework. I think it needs to be made larger, with a lot more cargo capacity and a more suitable living area. The Starlancer MAX totally blows the Freelancer out of the water. Yes, it is substantially larger and more expensive, but the design, layout, etc, is all far superior. What the Freelancer needs is to become a mini Starlancer. The Starlancer is suitable for 2-6 people. Make the Freelancer suitable for 1-3 people. The Zeus CL also dominates the old Freelancer, especially in the living quarters department. Shame about the cargo grid on the Zeus though.
I wonder what the plan is for the escape pods, I assume they won’t have a lot of fuel or quantum drive, unless before the pod launches you can select and planet or location for it to take you to and it will use the ships quantum drive to kinda slingshot you to where ever because I can’t imagine you using the pods and just floating in space where the people who destroyed your ship are able to just blow up the pods.
I've always had my lancer, it sits really well in the goldilocks zone. Big enough to take a hit or 2, packs a punch but isn't too lethargic in flight. But since the cargo update that internal wall between the cargo grids is annoying as hell. It also needs to be a tad wider to get the ROC in. That rear turret is useless, I'd understand if that part in front of it did anything but it looks like a bad aero spoiler. I'd swap the turret and front cargo section. Would be nice to have a gun rack and storage in the gold pass. I have an upgrade to Spirit ready, but I'm not sure that huge drop in sheilds is worth the better use of space.
This ship has evolved so much since its concept - It needs a reconcept IMO, badly. Its a 2-crew ship, not 3, and that top mounted docking port is kind of useless. Even removing that... more entryways than a Spirit though.
I just swapped my Freelancer for a C1 Spirit. I haven't even played in a couple of years now but I just remember how disappointed I was with the look and layout of the ship, especially as the game design changes started to show how outdated the ship is. IAE just allowed me to upgrade for $5.
make the turret remote instead of manned so one doesnt asininely have to clamber over cargo to reach it, and take away that synthetic limitation of the "fin" that intentionally limits its fire arc for no reason at all, and it would be purty nice. Looking at it though it also makes ya wonder why they got away from the misc design language for their series of ships and killed off the sunroof in the starlancer for......
I would like to see the Freelancer series (and some of the other "old" ships) get some love from CIG. They could be awesome with an interior re-design. Unfortunately, I think CIG has created a situation where they have to keep creating "new and better" ships to sell in order to keep the revenue flowing in. As an aside, have you spoken to a professional about your irrational fear of bathrooms? If you have that problem outside the game, you might want to speak to a therapist. You may have grounds for legal recourse.
6:30 To be clear with your viewers, you should point out that this system DOESN'T actually make food, and hasn't for years - plus CIG haven't got anything specified in the road map.
To be honest, I'd like to know where you always get all those paints. Especially for the Freelancer I can only purchase 2 paints. No idea where you get the others from
Hmm! Thanks for the feedback. I got the two shown here that are not in the store during a previous luminalia event. I’m betting they will someday be available again.
I bought the three MISC Freelancer that were out when the game was only around 3 months old. That was when we had the huge hanger and only a couple of Modes to test anything in. I lost my large computer in a Corsair 900D case which was 10 years in service when the 1 TB C drive was fried. My current MSI one has only one 512 GB drive I am looking to install the game when I can figure out how to install the game on second drive which may need to be external as I cannot find how to install a M2 drive of 4 TB. Keep up the good reporting.
Entertaining content, but as far as reviews go, I put little faith in these. He literally ranked the worst ship CIG has made to date, higher than one of, if not *THE*, G.O.A.T.
Appreciate your feedback, I base my review off of other ships in their class, with the stats, and my personal experience with the ship. I totally understand if our opinions don’t match, your personal opinion or rating on a ship could be very different.
@EvenLease44 I get that, however, I feel my point is still valid. You ranked a ship, for whom there is simply not a worse option, higher than what most people have called the best ship in the game. I speak of the intrepid and the Cutlass. Any ship being ranked lower than the intrepid just makes no sense.
@@dzunepwnsipod Everyone has their opinions. To me, the Cutlas is not the goat. Then again, I did suggest a subscriber flair idea some years ago for a box of disposable "Drake Underpants" that could be placed on a ship to resolve the missing bathroom on Drake ships, so maybe I have a slight bias.
Haven't taken a look at this bird in over a year! Thanks for joining me on another review. Keep an eye out over the next couple days for another giveaway starting

That’s CR’s next project. Car Citizen.
They HAVE to upgrade the turret to be a remote turret. They made the very similar Starlancers turrets remote, and the manned turret entry RIGHT in the way. (And your point about the extra seats in the cockpit)
The freelancer series is a great series of ships.

Side door interior activation prompt conveniently broken around the time of the Starlancer sale.

Like a lot of others, this is one of my faves. Has a little bit of everything, slim profile with not a lot of weak points to shoot off. Only downside is that I get more motion sick in the freelancer than any other ship, its just very claustrophobic.
I tend to think the extra 2 seats were for the left and right cheek guns. In the Freelancer commercial they shoot straight 90 degrees left and right.
Yeah! I agree. I wonder if any of that will change once they get a good look at the interior when bringing older ships up to speed.
I love the Freelancer but I really, really hope a potential rework will give it more of the Starlancer's design language. Less bulbous and more sleek. There have been some fan redesigns using the Starlancer as the base and they look fantastic.

Thank you so much! You’re awesome.
Could you do the retaliator with all of the modules? I don't see any concise recent reviews on that one :D
My first love. Could never go back to it now though since I can't stand the current cargo grid implementation. (Argo Raft my beloved)
I love misc Mi marca favorita

It is a good ship, but old. It can do a lot of the missions. And is soloable or multicrew! Most this size categorie is loved in the community.

I wonder if these ships will get a rework in the near future with CIG transitioning to MISC ships soon?

I like this ship and the Constellation but man do they need a rework. Unfortunately there is a lot of other stuff that needs to get done
I just hope for a good rework... Remove the 2 useless back seats and two beds and you have plenty room for weapon and suit lockers...
I would like to see the Freelancer series (and some of the other "old" ships) get some love from CIG. They could be awesome with an interior re-design. Unfortunately, I think CIG has created a situation where they have to keep creating "new and better" ships to sell in order to keep the revenue flowing in.

6:30 To be clear with your viewers, you should point out that this system DOESN'T actually make food, and hasn't for years - plus CIG haven't got anything specified in the road map.
Thanks for the feedback. In the future, when we have crafting, the food processing unit will be able to craft food there.
The Lancers are way, way, overdue for rework.
She is an old ship but a good ship!
Agreed, can't wait to see these old ships be brought to todays standards though!
@@EvenLease44 by the way with the stanton to pyro jump fuel requirement I have seen some ships do the jump with only 500k qt fuel
@EXRAY479 interesting! I wonder if they are changing the requirement for gate entry or if that’s a bug. I’ll look out for it!
ship is awesome but needs a big update tbh
They just need to remove the bulkhead separating the two cargo grids. What's the purpose of this little door?
Agreed!! That door can be gone!
the reason is the docking collar. You dont want to decompress your entire cargo hold when you just want to EVA, do you?
I have always felt this ship was so ugly, but to the point that it flips the script and ends up looking cool. Lol.
Hahaha I get that
I bought the three MISC Freelancer that were out when the game was only around 3 months old.
Keep up the good reporting.
i LOVE the Freelancer

That's a very old ship
Verrrrry old
Entertaining content, but as far as reviews go, I put little faith in these.
