For those on the fence, I want you to know that "Breaking Comedy's DNA" is worth it. It totally elevated my humor column (syndicated + won an award) and increased funny greeting card sales to American Greetings and Papyrus.
I love how compare and contrast elevates jokes! Using two dissimilar ideas to highlight their stark differences works wonders. Like Gaffigan’s sunburn bit, it’s funny on its own but becomes a knockout with the "either/or" comparison. It’s all about leading the audience down one path, then surprising them with a twist! Humor like this is what makes the Habit10x Sense of Humor Improvement program so fun-it helps you craft punchlines that hit just right. Keep honing your craft!
Hey Jerry, I'm from Brazil and I love your vídeos. The last one about open mics really helped me make my jokes better. I'd love to see you doing a vídeo about Bill Hicks. Thanks for the content.
Great question. And totally justified. Just as with music theory or acting theory, there is some crossover with certain techniques. The mirrored phrase (a version of the paired phrases) is a side by side comparison so that’s where a crossover could occur. I would need more space and time to provide examples. But I wouldn’t go down a rabbit hole with the nuance between the two, just know that there will sometimes be a crossover.
Great video Jerry , one video I would love to see you do is you watching someone do standup while you call out the structures! That would be really interesting !

Hey Jerry I’m brand new to comedy! I’m planning to do my first open mic next weekend! I was wondering if you would look at one of my jokes and give me some pointers? I Acutely I wrote it using the principles and techniques I learned watching your videos. Just let me know thank you!
What’s your opinion on using ‘I look like ___’ or ‘I know what you’re thinking’ phrases in jokes? Lots of industry people and comedy teachers say to not use it but I keep seeing lots of big name comics use those phrases. Just like in your video.
When you’re saying “I know what you’re thinking, I think you should say, I know what you MIGHT be thinking. Because there’s no way you could know… just like in Gaffigan’s video, he says ‘might be thinking or probably thinking.”
This might be an outsider type of comments but I wanted to know if understaning the laughter principles and internalize them could just make you a funnier person in every day life, and not just in prepared shows I don’t wanna be a commedian (nothing against) i just wanna be funnier in general,is that possible (i’m already a funny guy,i just wanna be more like that)

Hi Onicia! Thanks for the testimonial!
Is it a book or a computer program?

Great content in this video !!! Thank you
Thanks Frank. I appreciate you taking a moment to comment! 😃
Hey Mr. Corley. What differs compare and contrast from paired phrases? I tend to get them confused a lot.

I have a friend who is a professional runner. He trains by running 40 miles a week.
I have trouble walking to the refrigerator.
Nice! Precisely what I’m talking about. In this case, we also recognize that behavior in ourselves.

Yessir! There is no doubt about it. Today’s stand-up comedy is more of a conversation anyway. So yeah.
There's no sound, mate
It might be your settings. I just checked it on 3 devices.
