Courtyards bring in abundant natural light, and also provide you with natural ventilation for your house. It doesn't matter even if your house is very small. It is possible to have a beautiful courtyard part of your house. Almost all the houses designed by Ansari Architects are provided with a courtyard of some type. When we design a house we make the courtyard a very important feature of the house, even if it is a small house.
How have courtyards evolved from the traditional concept to the latest modern houses? South India is very famous for courtyard houses. In Tamil Nadu they are called as Mutram. Many other countries have also had courtyards in some form or another. We can learn from these traditional examples and we have to adapt them to the present situation. This is what we at Ansari Architects excel in doing.
What types of courtyards you can design for your house? The pros and cons of those types Are discussed in detail. The type of Courtyard you have to choose for your house will depend on many factors like the size of your plot and your requirement of number of rooms et cetera.
What kind of finishes can be provided for the courtyard flooring and walls. The usual material finishes are pebbles, natural stones, dark wood flooring material, and artificial grass etc.
Is it better to provide natural planting or artificial planting inside your courtyard? This is also discussed in detail. Artificial plants if chosen carefully can almost look like natural plants and are very easy to maintain. These don’t require watering and don’t require frequent maintenance. These are very suitable for maintenance-free courtyards.
The courtyards can be protected in such a way that burglars cannot enter your house. We achieve this by providing them with solid concrete pergolas or steel pergolas on top. Thus the courtyard gives you a feeling as though it is an integral part of your dining or living because there is only a simple glass without the usual grill separating you from it.
Tips and tricks that can be done in the courtyard:
Keep it very simple and dry use simple natural materials like pebbles, Slate stones, et cetera
Artificial lighting in the courtyard is very important and can be designed in such a way that even at night time the indirect light gives you an illusion of daylight coming from the top.
Metallic artwork can be placed on the walls of the courtyard to give an exclusive look.
The toilets can also be provided with a small courtyard, thus giving you a feeling of nature coming inside the toilets, and keeping your toilet healthy and hygienic.
