  • I think this update is a step in the right direction but the issue still remains with special attack killers who can easily camp such as bubba. Let's hope live release is better!

      Yup but now the player gets to control it more and it’s worse for killers. Just wait til almost second hook then leap off, 15 sec endurance plus however long you can loop after that, then camped again and leap off at last second and again 15 sec endurance. Now it’ll take much longer for campers and a team mate doesn’t have to waste time coming to save you and can instead work on gens.

      Main issue with dbd are the game foundations.. dbd is based on camping and tunneling if you want to do 4 kill as killer so its not easy to fix

      Well see, I think people will realize it makes getting the bar full against proxy camping easier. As we saw, they'd normally hit struggle, but if you were Reassured, they'd have all that extra time.

      In that case I think reassurance should pause the timer too.
      This could lead to situations where the survivors never need to go for an unhook and just run past them.
      This would be especially strong on maps like midwich and the game where you can trigger reassurance from different floors.

      If reassurance doesn't pause the meter, then it technically is a buff, for one, survivor can now play with a different playstyle of leaving their teammate on hook for longer and hope for the best if the killer sometimes walk by hook or builds the meter up, reassurance would only help increase the chance + also stalling the game for longer without the need to unhook them if unnecessary and if killer isn't applying gen pressure but semi camping or proxying, so in a way it got more use than it did before.

    I feel like having a little more agency to save yourself during solo q is more beneficial than it being a true anti-camping mechanism. I don't really care if I get relentlessly tunneled because dying on first hook is infinitely more frustrating.

      yes. For those who exclusively play solo queue, this is a much needed change. Too many bad killers are getting rewarded for camping or proxy camping when they lose 1 -2 gens during early game.

      I personally Ain't a huge fan of either, Being unhooked only for the killer to ignore everyone and go for me again until there's three hooks and One single kill is just as Frustrating as dying on first hook

    The anti camp thing seems like itll really be nutty with SWF's since once they say "oh he's face camping me" everybody else now knows that they dont even need to bother and can just do gens more efficiently. But I also feel like in random lobbies people will just leave you to die once they see the killer remotely close to you, assuming you'll just get off yourself. We'll just have to see honestly

      Reassurance being meta will be replaced with even more gen efficiency, gens are going to be slammed even faster knowing 1 person unhooking is always a safe unhook, dbd is slowly becoming gen simulator

    I think with a few more tweeks this could work well enough, but I thought of a different idea for anti camping. let me know if you think its any good.
    When the killer is too close to the hook, the survivor's death bar (not sure if it has a proper name, but the bar that shows how long you have on hook before you die) will lower by 50%, or maybe even stop regressing completely. the survivor won't die so long that the killer is too close, with the exception of death hook. ill admit that this still won't be fun for the hooked survivor, but it punishes the killer massively by nothing getting done. they will throw the game trying to camp, forcing them to change tactics, and giving the opportunity for the hooked survivor to be saved.

      That has been tried multiple times across multiple PTBs and never left the PTBs because survivors always found a way to abuse it to hell and back.
      Reassurance is all that's left of that failed mechanic.

    Who would have thought this new mechanic would break the game and be massively abusable... Surely not I! /S How the F can they not find a SINGLE incentive to not facecamp... THAT is all it takes to make the game fun for both sides... BHVR being incompetent as always I guess.

      The strongest incentive to not face camp is to make chasing as lower tier killers actually rewarding without the need for multiple slowdown or STBFL

    The point isn't putting restrictions to force killers out of camping/tunneling. Is adding things that encourage not doing so. "Encourage" is not restriction. Give a killer benefits for going out of their way to hunt someone else, despite having the option to guarantee a kill. I have not seen anything like this in many years. Closest there is are perks like make your choice and devour hope. But outside of that, theres no direct reason to do that. Either a punishment towards hook progression or towards gen progression, but SOMETHING.

      Problem is that the survivor perks meta currently are so strong, that if a killer doesn't at the very least do some proxy hook camping it's almost always a loss when you play against a swif. Gens can just be done way too fast in this current meta. You have to be able to as a killer give reasons for other survivors to get off gens.

      The idea i came with a while ago, is that since the killer gets a direct punishment for camping the hook, the survivors should get a direct punishment for ignoring rescues and gen rushing. Imagine you have 3 people sitting in a gen rotating reassurance then going back to gens. Add a counter that tracks a survivors gen progression and slows it down the less altruistic they are (Something like a basekit tanato. If they can have basekit deliverance then we should get something basekit too, right?) Since they SO want to add this anti camp feature for "the killer to play in a fun, healthy way", may aswell prevent survivors from holding M1 the whole match. But BHVR is packed with survivor mains, so i doubt they'll do anything about it anytime soon. They many times listened to otz whenever he said X thing is too broken or too weak, but he said that gen times are becoming an issue due to the balance between killer perks and survivor perks (specially items) and so far i've seen no real attempt to create a proper slow down mechanic that does not depend on taking half of the killer's perk/add on slots.

      Camping is "viable" but so idiotic that it deserves to be punished.
      Being camped is boring, camping is boring, and having a killer doing nothing but camp a teammate is boring.
      You can still go near hooked survivers because the meter is slow (as long as you don't sit in their face) and the meter stops when other survivors are near it.

    I would add 1 very important feature, this shouldn't fill up when killer is in chase near the hook. Especially on leveled maps killer just wont be able to chase below the hook because yes. And there are maaany more reasons for it.

    1. I think there should definitely be a delay before the bar starts filling up to give the killer a chance to move away (and maybe set up - tappers/hags?).
    2. The bar shouldn't progress if the killer is on the floor above/below. (unless the killer has ability to traverse back to the hook rapidly).
    3. How does this interact with hooking multiple survivors in the basement?
    4. What would be the implications for survivors and killers if there is a gen next to the hook?
    5. I like the idea of an anti-camping mechanic - nobody likes a basement bubba - but wont this system just promote proxy camping, slugging, and tunneling?
    I honestly think killers wouldn't feel the need to camp, slug, and tunnel as much if they just removed de-pipping - It made sense when killer grade was linked to mmr, but now it just punishes you for not doing everything you possibly can to win, including playing dirty. - if they really want to make it 'more fun' removing de-pipping would be a big a step in the right direction.

      For #1, it's highly likely they already priced in the time when killers have to leave vicinity into the timer overall. They are probably going to tweak the unhook timer speed in the PTB as well if killers need more time.
      For #2, you can camp in several areas by being on a higher floor than the hook, because you can fall down in 1.5 seconds. So it definitely needs to transcend floors in some way for it to be effective in some areas.
      I actually prefer proxy camping to close camping, in some ways proxy camping (if not too close) can be fun to outmaneuver. So I find that part to be an overall win.

    Survivor queue times are already ridiculous. This is just going to make them even longer. No one is gonna play killer anymore.
    And why would they? You have to sweat as survivors get their hand held through the match. Massive amounts of pallets, safe pallets, god pallets. Map offerings they can use to put the game in their favor. Second chance perks. Speed boost perks that make them impossible to catch. Insta heals. Killer is a shit fest. While survivor you’re just chillin with your feet up.
    Let’s not forget even if you kill 3 of 4. The 4th still gets a chance at hatch. You close the hatch. WAIT. They still get a chance for the door. LMAO.
    This game is a joke. And this is coming from a P100 nea that’s a survivor main.

    This unhooking system is great for new players learning the game. However highly abusable in a game full of experienced survivors. Especially against a swf. Camping a hook is another way to provide pressure against these hard teams. After this update, slugging will become meta. This is gonna be a shit show 😂

    I honestly think the best solution was to adapt a version of what happens when Pyramid Head tries to camp his cages - if a killer camps, the entity sends the survivor to another hook, as far away as possible. Obviously there would have to be a bunch of exceptions and additions to make this work best but it would make facecamping to ensure the kill basically dead, unless I'm missing something.

    He forgot that even if you can unhook yourself, most players will wait til last minute so that they can waste as much of the killer’s time as possible.
    That incentivizes every other survivor to sit on gens. Before, you had to do something about the save. That’s not the case anymore.
    It’s a great change.

    I get the feeling killers that can multi hit such as bubba won't be effected much by this it only allows him to get people quciker out of the game tbh, but I do get the feeling some survivors will abuse this by leading the killer to the hook on purpose.

      Multi floors and that distance is too long it gives the killer was near a second gen and it was still going also it starts the moment the hooked not giving the killer a chance to leave no proct nothing maybe give killer a proct and show the the distance or the meter to.

      You realise the bar slows down (and actually comes to a full stop) if other survivors run to the hook, right? You can't "abuse" this by leading the killer to the hook... Because then it won't work.

    Wait. This is not the point.
    This change is supposed to counter the free face camp.
    And it does.
    If you facecamp you only lose time, the guy will unhook and you will have to hook him again while the mates are doing gens.
    Now, it does not prevent you to tunnel him because it is not anti tunnel.
    It does not prevent you to proxicamping because countering proxi camping was never in their intention.
    It does not help against killers that are good at camping because.... because they are good at camping.
    But it does what was promised. They just promised not that much.

To be fair this feature doesn't "suck" as usually the reason for facecamping is you hella know theres someone around, but it definitely needs some tweaking, and should come with a punishment for survivors aswell. Because if the killer plays mr. nice guy and rotates who they hook, against a coordinated theam, they lose like dogs.

      When i used to play the game i was a survivor main but every patch removed the enjoyment from it as they just nerfed killers to the point where you feel like the killer

    As a Killer, I'm pretty much slugging all survivor teams in response to this feature. I can't believe BHVR is letting the whining of survivors dictate the game's direction. Maybe if we just start slugging all teams until they reverse this feature, they'll listen. Otherwise, any survivors going up against me are going to have a miserable time (I've slugged 5 different teams in the last 24 hours 😁)

    I feel like people are blowing this out of proportion. If you have a window or pallet close, you're fine. If you don't, don't unhook yourself until you're about to go to next stage anyway.

    Just make killers bots or reward killers for playing in "fun" ways, punishing playstyles never has been or will be the answer, give players incentives to play how you want them to or they will choose the path of least resistance everytime.
    Doing the whole hook leave chase hook leave isn't fun for the killer if the chases can potentially be 2 or 3 gens long depending on map set ups, no killer who wants to actually play the game will want to leave a game without atleast 1 kill will play like a nice guy if it ain't worked for them in the past, survivors will have to suck it up these base second chances is a terrible idea.

Sometimes you realize the game is getting tense, your time margins are getting tight, and you need to camp a bit (maybe proxi camp) in order to have survivors grouped up and turn the game more in your favor. But now bhvr wants killers to stick to the "mr nice guy" mindset and get tbag and clicked by a full SWF. Why aren't there new mechanics that prevent the SURVIVORS from playing in anti-fun ways? How about limiting gen speed or even access if a survivor is hooked? or limiting the ammount of toolboxes/add ons that can be brought by a team? Why dont they think of THAT? imagine sitting in a gen for 5 minutes, thats not fun at all. Then why is that allowed??? BHVR is packed with survivor mains dude, accept it.

    Skull merchant rework nerfs:
    No longer gains undetectable while in drone radius
    Cool down on recall
    45 sec drone disable on successful survivor hack
    survivors 3 sec scan immunity on scan (this includes wake up)
    Radius of drone reduction
    Multiple stages to get full use 1st scan speed 2nd tracker 3rd hinder (9 sec min to gain all if survivor is active in trying to get it)

    other problems with this mehcnaic is that when a downed surv is near the hooked survivor, the bar still fills. and multifloor maps are bad too, you hook upstairs someone, and you chasing someone below then the bar fills. but the first thing i mentioned are fixable easily. but the second idk man i dont think they could fix that.

    This isn't about anti camping still being useless, it's a killer problem and why the grand majority of the roster never gets touched, it's why each match you play as survivor you only ever see the exact same killers each match, play a lower tier m1 killer and this changes drastically. Mechanics like this only further push the drive to only play specific killers while others remain neglected. I swear if you'd never look at the killer roster and only played survivor you'd think there was only 4 or 5 killers in the game. Instead of altering the game around specific killers as a whole, just alter the killers to avoid the ripple effect of making sure most of the killer roster never gets touched.

      The solution for this whole issue is really as simple as just making it so hitting a survivor who still has endurance off hook (and ONLY endurance from being unhook, not endurance in general) will end your chainsaw sprint like prematurely, so you have to rev it all over again.

    Hot Take - Camping for me was never really an issue. Was it done, yes. I mean that it wasn't an issue, the killer could be punished for it if the survivors where smart. For me, tunnelling is the issue. There is nothing that a survivor can do if a killer really wants to tunnel unless you're a god looper. Any anti tunnelling perk is negated by the base kit BT due to it applying deep wound, not to mention you're already at a disadvantage due to deep wound affecting your vision. DS (Regardless of what anyone says) is dead. After animation you have 1 second to get away and what does that do for a bubba sweep, nurse, spirit, blight, plague, huntress, billy, anyone with cross map or travel ability. Just the deep wound application from BT alone negates the "anti-tunnelling" perks. New Dead hard, OTR. Tunnelling is also more effective and less punishing for the killer, the survivor cant control when they get unhooked and when you get unhooked 20 seconds after, that's only 20 seconds of wasted hook time and you'll be downed 10-15 seconds later. where as a camper wastes 2 minutes - possibly 3-4 with reassurance by just standing by the hook. Not too mention, tunnelling i feel, feels more annoying, personal and unfair. I feel it enrages and upsets people more, where as face camping, the killer is WAITING for you to DC or kill yourself on hook - just don't. It feels good seeing gens fly by whilst the killer is just sat there getting no points just like me. I say remove the camping mechanic and remove deep wound from base BT, buff DS back to 5 seconds and done. Shitty gameplay issue solved.

    It’s anti-camp not anti-tunnel. What this does is allow your team to stick gens since you can unhook yourself. Now we just need better anti-tunnel. They need to give sprint burst to the unhooked survivor

      In my opinion I think there's enough perks and strats survs can do that can negate tunnelling, so it's just a matter of improving or just a ''skill issue'' type of thing, like of course if you're new to the game it's bound to be easier for killer to target and tunnel you out sooner there's nothing that can be done about that, similar to how if you're a new killer and you're matching good survivors (which is inevitable due to the broken queue system) then you are bound to get gen rushed and if you don't know how to finish chases fast or hold gens then you lose. Plus, even the craziest instance of extreme tunnelling has never ever worked out in the killer's favor, if anything tunnelling usually means killer overcommitting and not applying any pressure elsewhere so it makes the game easier for survs if the person they're tunneling is also not making as much mistakes during chases.

      @@Lawfyy Getting tunneled is not a skill issue when you are at the mercy of map resources to protect yourself that may not be available by your hook. Tunneling is a lazy killer strategy. I’m not saying tunneling should be stopped. I’m saying the reward needs to be less appealing. I literally had a spirit abandon me injured in a dead zone to tunnel the unhook at 5 gens. I was within m1 distance! And she just LEFT?!? That’s me off a gen, a team getting the save, the unhooked, and ONE person left to do all 5 gens?? That is exactly the problem. Tunneling is low effort but SWINGS games. Making a unimpressive strategy more challenging is not a bad thing and you shouldn’t be complaining. Tunneling is also a slap in the face to killers who challenge themselves to macro pressure. Macro pressure killers deserve MORE than tunnelers.

You're saying that because your team isn't effectively playing against the tunneler by making effective use of anti tunnel perks + bodyblocks and other plays, also you get endurance straight off hook so there will always be map resources you make it to unless you're referring to basement which is a whole different story but usually that endurance will be enough for you to make it far to a pallet or window somewhere, and if you're still not sure about that there'll still always be perks to help you with that like off the record/DS/dh/ so on, but like I said, tunnelling only works when the surv team is playing extremely passive and into the hands of the tunneller, a killer overcommitting is never a good thing since they apply no pressure elsewhere. It's also a matter of what killer you're referring to because some killers right now are much better at tunnelling than other killers so that'd also make sense.

    So glad i left the game before this idiocy was implemented. Yet another punish the killer for playing a particular way rather than giving them incentive to play differently. Camping and tunneling is boring for everyone involved especially the killer the latter being the more viable strat when leveraged properly. If I got some tangible benefits for constantly being in chase I would choose that every time as it's the most engaging part of the game but you simply can't do that or gens will fly by.

    Might be an unpopular opinion but I feel what they are doing with the anticamp is purely thought out for survivors and not for killer at all since it means bad matches where you have low hooks with low gens left, you cannot secure a kill if needed and also means that playing around hook with multiple survivors is just worse for the killer. Think an anticamp on hook is needed but this has not been weighed out well for killers

    This maybe a stupid/hot take for the bubba facecamping situation, but why has nobody considered using the game resources like pallets, windows, or lockers to safely get away instead of running into the killer or into a open field. I feel like if you utilize resources with the anti-facecamping mechanic then it works great. Again just my opinion from testing it myself and from watching other content creators. Huntress is another story, it is worthless against a good huntress.

      Because pallets aren’t always there, windows in dead zones are pretty useless even against bubba unless you have lithe, and jumping in a locker without a locker build is just trolling. People have considered these things but most of the time it doesn’t matter in the end cause if you’re getting facecamped/tunneled you just have to deal with it unless you run 4 mans swf’s which I know every killer wants to act like every game they play is a 4 man swf but thats just not the case. Most people run solo.

I understand that in some instances you can't do anything, but most people aren't even trying to actually escape from the bubba.

My point is that ever survivor I've seen was told to try and escape the bubba, but then proceed to run past ever loop,pallet or window into the open dies then says it is still terrible and does nothing. Again I agree there are still situations where you can't do anything, but it just feels like no one is even actually trying to show how you can use the .05 seconds to make it to a loop of it is close by.

      This change is overall bad for the game, as it puts killers in lose-lose situations. There never should be mechanic that punishes u this hard for doing the right plays. For instance, u downed survivor near almost done gen and u hook said surv next to this gen. Normally the correct play would be to camp this out and wait thill the gen regresses. Survivor made a blunder and u are capitalizing on it (as it should be). But now? U cant go away, cause survivor gets rescued and the gen gets done, but u also cant stay cause the survivor will unhook himself and other survs, knowing that they dont have to help their teammate, will do other gens. What is killer supposed to do? Its not fair at all.

    My opinion -
    There needs to be a 5-10 second window to let the killer leave. Right now you can get 1/5 to 1/4 of the bar off a killer who is playing correctly.
    For basement in particular - the hook shouldn't count you if your above it.
    When breaking gens or pallets the bar should be paused or even regress slightly so killers can do objectives around the hook. (Traps with hag or trapper don't count maybe)
    Killer in chase should never count. Survivors nearby should drain

      There's no point in giving these windows/pauses though if you're not going to camp, no? Killer in chase is also a bit questionable, because the chase might be a result of a survivor trying to unhook. And from what I can tell the devs did mention that the bar goes slower when survivors are nearby, so that should compensate for that in theory
