Alright so M. Night fans are in for another twist and turn psychological horror story, with his latest, Knock at the Cabin. Four strangers, One cabin. The “Signs” are all there. But yeah, we’re going to be breaking this thing down for y’all, what that ending means, a whole lotta symbolism, and of course our reaction and review on the movie and mandatory M. Night cameo.
All sorts of heavy spoilers in this one, so a huge thank you for clicking this, I’m your host Jared, now let’s get into Knock at the Cabin.
Alright so Knock at the Cabin opens on a family of three on vacation at a remote cabin in the woods. As we’re introduced to a young Wen catching grasshoppers. It’s funny because she is categorizing them in her little notebook, showing us she’s an inquisitive little girl. She looks up, as a stranger walks out of the woods towards her, and this is Dave Bautista’s, Leonard. After the two play a game of back and forth questions, Leonard’s friends follow behind, and he tells Wen his heart hurts because of what he has to do today.
Like BAAMM, we’re right into the home invasion portion of the movie, as Leonard and the group try to calmly reason and discuss what is about to happen, but have to use force against Daddy Andrew and Daddy Eric. The couple is tied up, after Eric hits his head, resulting in a concussion. The four strangers line up with their makeshift weapons, and Leonard tells them they need to make the ultimate sacrifice to stop the apocalypse. One of the three must willingly give their life to stop it, by the hand of another. “What? Noooo.”

I just saw this movie yesterday and the person i went with had no idea about the director's reputation so i was excited to see what direction the movie was gonna go in hoping the twist would be something stupidly cool like the news broadcast they were being shown WAS curated and produced by an extreme religious group and trying to turn normal people into doomsday fanatics or something.
I was disappointed they played it straight and found the ending boring at the end.

Am I the only one that thought at the end the family end up being the holy trinity and God sacrificing his son for hummanity?

That's what I thought about it. Who is the kind of God who wishes for a human sacrifice to stop the apocalypse? I suppose that is not a nice God, maybe it is YHWH, the jewish God of the Bible, who made plagues, floods, wars, etc. That vengeful god is, in truth, Enlil of the Sumerians. The false God of this world (Demiurge, Yaldabaoth).
It felt like a propaganda pull to make the God of the Bible look bad.

@@euj0 nope, Jesus died and rose, no need for any sacrifice going forward ever. Original sin ( death) ended. Salvation is the way. This is a Protestant movie as they focus on Revelations etc. Catholics are like: live your life righteous/confess because you can die at any time. the whole 'hey there's a special club that ascends to heaven' etc is not the focus at all.
(Station of the Cross + Sacraments is RCC, meaning live close to Jesus and there's no need to fear a death because your soul is redeemed. )
This film is Old testament, not New testament. It's cute but it'd be heresy to any Catholic. We know why Jesus died. There's no need for any sacrifice again ever, Jesus is called the LAMB of GOD for a reason, (hint: sacrifice)
anyway, that why I came here, the premise is wrong for half of Christianity. I was curious if I missed something and it seems I did not. It's just a cool idea that doesn't hold up to actual Christian text. It's Old testament/secret handshake to be in Gods club stuff . It's not anything said in the Gospel.
This movie left me hanging so bad. Like, I was expecting something to come up and EXPLAIN it all during the whole movie. I was expecting that big twist at the end, though im thinking the big twist is that there is no big twist? Haha it was interesting and fun to watch still. I must admit that the fact that these people were the four horsemen of the apocalypse shocked me good. I felt very sorry for Eric too. Thanks for such a great review!

What was significance of the song playing before and after?
I enjoyed the movie, I kinda called it all being legit early on but was still intrigued. I also was silently hoping this would tie in somehow to Cabin in the woods with the whole sacrifice to save the world thing, that woulda been out of nowhere kinda M Night thing
I thought the dude with headwrap was the Antichrist and he was gonna trynna his best to let the apocalypse happen and the other dude slowly see he is and agree with the horseman! Boy was I wrong

There absolutely was a twist at the end it just went over your head a little. The twist IS that there was no twist. Lol, see, like you said, everyone expects a twist at the end of his movies, and he loves them as well. The problem is that everyone goes to his movie expecting a twist. So, how do you surprise a person with a twist who is also expecting a twist? Well, you tell them there is no twist early. They won't believe it and look harder and harder for the "got ya" moment only to be "surprised" that it has no twist. It's a bit of a mined fuck but think of it like throwing a birthday party, if you tell the person your throwing a birthday party they are expecting the party. So you throw it the day before or after getting the same surprise as if they didn't know it was coming. Even though they knew the whole time that it was.
I loved this flick. Batista was stellar. I don’t understand the hate.
I agree. It's a fantasy. Good story, well acted. Nothing more. The ending was fine.
