The mouth brooder process still amazes me even though I have been aware of it for more than 30 years.

The male is extending its mouthparts in an unusual way... wonder why !?

They were spawning, she was laying eggs and catching them in her mouth, when she seems to nip him toward his rear, he releases Milt or Sperm to fertilize the eggs, she will hold the eggs until they hatch. As for extending his mouth, it's probably not much different than humans making faces during sex and orgasm.

They look incredible! How big do they get? Are they considered Jumbo?

      Thanx
Depends on who you ask ..
In general, Jumbo is generally derived from the Swahili language and is not related to the size of the fish

My opinion is 3 to 4 inches, they are mid-water swimmers and pair well with bottom and shell dwellers

They look like their cousins (marine wrasse)
