Pretty much. At the rate of decomposition the infected are at, a guitar can decapitate several infected in one swing.
It's not that they're decomposed, it's because, as the video says, a combination of malnutrition and the Infection has weakened their bone structure to the point that simply standing on their head will fracture their skull. They're still alive, but adrenaline causes them to ignore the severe pain they would be in.
But they still can fall from high places without suffering any damage..

You can have a lot more hidey holes and jump scares if zombies seem like they're raining from the ceiling.

Without getting a rabies vaccine in time, the only other way to survive is the Milwaukee Protocol. That is to induce a coma in the afflicted and pump them full of anti-viral medicine. It has about a 5-10% survival rate, at best.
Remember that once the hydrophobia sets in, it's already too late.
The infected do have hallucinations cuz if you read the comics you can see that the infected see the survivors as monsters

The captain (or sergeant or whatever his rank is) of the two soldiers who were guarding Louis and Francis ended up getting infected, and in his early stages the POV switches to his vision and the Survivors are seen as monsters.

Bill even says that they were crossing a street when the massive chaos happened, meaning that if you wanted to survive this hell hole, you would need more people and more ammo than a single person can carry.
The most damage being done by the special infected which would by themselves destroy all 4 of them, the thing is that it is an intro so they needed it to be a bit "calmer". To get you ready for the small hell but if this was in the reality, you wouldn't have time for anything, Bill would have died to smorker when out of nowhere the rest would be killed by either the hunters or the tank. There wouldn't be any free breath time as all of them would tackle them down.
(Mind you that a some of them were injured and even in-game the survivor gets slower, meaning that the tank would body the rest.)
The tank will eventually also die from a heart attack, ingame if a tank starts to attack but cant reach a survivor by around a minute, it will die from frustration.
The “infected survivor” who is shown with bullet bandoliers, often medical equipment, and supples might possibly survive longer. I say this as these infected do have a sense of self-preservation when attacked. Perhaps it would know enough to drink and eat, especially given its health pool of 1000. But that could also be because they were a recently infected individual.
Im afraid the common infected have FALLEN to their deaths :)

If I were to come up with such idea, it would be the bomber. This special infected has some sort of tumor-like spots on both of his arms. And his face would have like a lot of abnormally big zits especially on the cheeks.
His ability is he can throw out "bombs" from his arms. For a single arm, he can throw like 6 bombs at a time. These bombs could damage survivors and does 8 points(damage)of a survivor for one bomb. The size of this bomb isn't that big I say. It's like about less the size of a tennis ball. When bomber's bomb hit a survivor, the bomb will create like a bit glowing of light green liquid stick on them and burn their skin(kind of like spitter's goo) as the bomb creates great heat when the bomb explode and sticks to a survivor. The liquid won't last that long and its kind of like when a boomer vomit on you. His health would be the same as smoker or spitter so which means bomber is quite easy to kill.
Bomber wears a long sleeve checkered T-shirt(with collar), casual trousers, sneakers and a watch on his wrist. His hair color is blonde. Bomber before the infection was a college student.
If you want to add/correct something about this particular idea of mine, feel free to do so. If only I could draw this special infected ~~~

tanks would probably have heart attacks commonly, too. Bodybuilders, especially those using steroids, often have heart problems, just because the heart just can't keep up with the rapid muscle expansion as well as upkeep of significantly bigger muscles, that is majorly wearing on it.

When it comes to sleeping there's always a chance that they're in a sleep-like state when not activated. Personally I'd put shelter over sleep for their survival, depending on the climate they're in, of course.
Personally I believe that quite a few infected would die rather fast due to infections and damages from their insensitivity to pain (just consider how long someone who'd run on broken feet/legs on asphalt would survive) not to mention everyone who needs medication to survive.

You probably won't see this, but when I playing the finale for the Passing I saw two infected eating a body, I'm not really sure if my eyes were fooling me but this could prove how the infected survive.

Yeah I'm sure during parish that multiple task force units were dispensed into the infected zones too combat the virus as a "LAST STAND" and they may have killed off most of the infected. Anyone else think of that or is it just me?
Keep note, literally all zombie apocalypses could be waited out. No matter what the scenario is, if its zombies, it can be waited. Necrotic diseases like, you know, zombifying ones, basically just commit suicide after a certain period of time, taking the infected body with them.

I was actually thinking about this the other day and about what the next game should be about.
It would make most sense if the next game takes place on the west coast, as the infection would have just made its way over there thus giving it a new batch if victims. The survivors main goal should be to make to the east coast where most of the infected have died off already

What if infected were to mutate to be able to eat let's say that they would start resting and eating each other to survive which would trigger even more mutations which would make let's say while less zombies it would create potential for real HORROR .
i know this has nothing to do with the topic of this video but when playing versus and getting jumped by a jockey, if you know were one or two of your teammates are turn your camera in the opposite direction of those teammates. you can’t control where your going to walk when getting jumped but you can change directions your facing while getting jumped. Turning the opposite way to your teammates gives them a better chance to shoot the jockey if too far instead of accidentally friendly fire you
Hopefully that was somewhat useful to anybody or maybe even wow but hey we all know he is so good that 80 percent of the time he kills the jockey before it jumps him XD
This reveals that they don't need a headshot to die like from TheWalkingDead so they can die from being shot from any place just like a regular human.but they won't die if they lost their limbs from zombies tearing em apart and coming back not being dead with lost of limbs until someone shoots or kills em
Some infected that I’ve noticed was that some had there jaws gone or missing a chunk of there torso or a thigh without a a thigh could mean a victim would most likely be losing a kidney one thing I don’t like is how infected that have there jaw being gone can’t live as long as a infected that has a jaw or a mouth since a jawless infected wouldn’t be able to infect unless it clawed it’s victim to death.
The vomiting makes sense because sometimes you find vomiting infected people

with the hunter i would say since the virus mutated the hunter maybe it keeps his legs working i mean maybe eventually they would ya know give out but maybe the virus is delaying idk by how much.
the tank now from my understanding do to lack of aggression the tank will die since it has no Adrenalin to keep its body going and just dies but do to the rarity of tanks by the CdC this can just be speculation or just a game mechanic (but since commons kill over and die with out even shooting them if you watch long enough the tank could also be the same way).
Now with the witch its kind of hard since the witch is possibly one of the older first infected given that bill knew about her and zoey didnt durning the cut scene. now given witches enhanced strength only 2nd to the tank the only infected or special infected for that matter to be drawn to some sort of food (sugar its unknown if she eats it or not but lets play the safe game and say no) and given that her body can take alot of punishment (she has 1k hp) it can be assumed that her mutation only makes her appear helpless as along with the crying to draw uninfected survivors to her so she can well kill them (the glowing eyes is a different story all together).
but given the witch are normally non aggressive unless disturbed it can be safe to say she can last a good while before she to subcomes to the big 3.

Out of all the various fan/scrapped special infected, I think The Haggard, and Screamer are still the coolest and scariest. The Haggard would make for a great map unique ranged tank event.

So unless L4D3 takes place within the same time span OR in a Newly infected area The game for the most part changes into Last of US and State of Decay(the outskirts of the Old Infection) until it just becomes a post-apocalyptic game.

Rioters: Gathers zombies to attack one common enemy

Sleep is only needed due to advance cognitive function and processing input. For example, people in deep comas do not dream, but they do not suffer brain-damage from that non-dreaming sleep which is usually what damages a brain without sleep.

I'd probably say the infection just like does anything to keep the host alive for as long as possible, this might include shutting down organs that wouldn't be used, and using basically anything in the body as nutrients other than vital organs to keep them going. As yoy said, they would die

Unknown. They don't really see other infected as monsters but more as fellow humans. However, they definetly see non infected as vicious monsters...
They keep regenerating and whoever combine or umbrella will still produce those as long as there is still survivors in America.

I actually had an idea for a special infected. I call it, "The Goblin." And it silently takes things from your inventory, be it ammo clips, med packs, grenades, etc. They're just kind of a nuisance that would have you keep an eye on your HUD. Of course, they would drop these items after they were killed

How I see it, the infected would eventually die from the disease or something else given the military abandoned many of their outposts and those left uninfected make their way through an area in order to find help would simply kill any that got in their way.

I do have an idea for a special, probably not original though,. The pyromancer, a tall lanky Male that hangs around locations where fuel is common, such as gas stations. When near a survivor it inhales and breaths/vomits out fire and napalm like substance that burn survivors and zombies. It achieves this ability by drinking gasoline, which is why it hangs around where it does. Originally these special infected used to be people with pyromania. In its mouth it has a stone like tongue and a metal tooth (most likely before the infection) to create sparks.

My idea on how the infected stay alive for so long without food/water is that they consume everything nearby them that has a smell, like a bear. My other guess on the sleep is that they just enter a rage state until they pass out
the infected line up is way better than that in transporter 2, in body mass alone

I really don't think that they will die with time because you shoot a construction worker in the top of the head and it get destroyed and he don't die,or you shoot a common in the chest open a hole that you can see that the hearth was destroyed and they still "live".
The only reason they die when you cut they legs of is because the devs were too lazy to add a crawling animation.

The tank would probably be the first to die off because it literally cannot live without killing people. It is implied that the reason that it's so strong is because he accumulates so much energy for fighting that its body shuts down afterwards. Once it starts a fight it will die either because the survivors killed it or it exhausts so much energy that it collapses. It quite literally gets so frustrated from the lack of action that its brain shuts down.
The tank dies faster due to frustration.
